  1. Goldfinger only soft-pedals the lesbian part. Bond still rapes Pussygalore. Of course, the third act of Vertigo is fucking disturbing with it's treatment of women too.
  2. Kong isn't an Ant to Godzilla. Kong will have Speed and agility on Godzilla. Size and power mean shit if you can't hit your target. (And that godzilla got beat by something comparable to an ant as well.)
  3. I'll give my thoughts, though pretty hard to top raping a lesbian henchman into be straight and on your side.
  4. Connery for night then. Now the question to answer will this movie have more or less uncomfortable attitudes towards women than Goldfinger?
  5. It's pretty good, I did like it, though was very tired when I watched the first hour, so that might explain my thinking it was slow. I'll give it another watch some point. Right now I'm deciding between Torn Curtain and Marnie for tonight.
  6. Not my favorite, but certainly the latter half is a good pay off for a very slow burn of a first. Ending was just weirdly abrupt. I understand how it works, and of course the narrative point of it. It just happens a bit too fast, and felt like maybe a beat should have followed it. Because I don't want to spoil a 50 year old movie...
  7. A review I saw spoke to the characters having similar voices, and while could be poor writing, it could also meant to be because it is a kid voice for all the characters. I guess I enjoyed the relationship issues of Batman a lot, even to understand that Joker is important to him, even if not in a traditional way.
  8. I enjoyed the movie. It was fun. I am seeing a few people in reviews missing that this is supposed to be still a kid playing with his Legos. They just don't make it obvious like TLM.
  9. I have not seen Notorious yet either. (It isn't in either of my collections) I have a list of stuff I still need to get around to, 39 Steps, Marnie, Rebecca. Rebecca which isn't apart of the Masterpiece collection, despite being the only Oscar winning film! I'll get around to them. May even settle in to watch a few this week since I'm feeling that need this week.
  10. My confession. I have not seen Vertigo. My copy is damaged, so never got around to it. And speaking of North By Northwest, Cary Grant is a great Hitchcock star. Love him in Suspicion.
  11. I personally like Rope, but I'm a sucker for Jimmy Stewart too. It's got interesting ideas, and the experiment is a touch of a failure towards the end of the film, falling over itself by the end. But the entire thing is just a slight level of creepy that works for me. At least it's a miss because of experimentation, not because of any tired routine. when you experiment, you fail sometimes. I'd be very curious to see a remake of sorts, trying to preserve that all one take technique.
  12. Classics. If you can, if you like Hitchcock's style of black humor, watch The Trouble with Harry.
  13. It really helps that Rear Window is, in my opinion, one of the best movies ever made. But it also has Jimmy Stewart, Grace Kelly, and Raymond Burr, so I'm incredibly biased.
  14. The two big sets I have is the masterpiece collection, which I got for Christmas a few years ago, and this other set that was just random lesser known films. One of my favorite features is the commentary for Rear Window, listened to it multiple times.
