    Easy.

Look up how many albums Thriller sold. When people actually had to go out and spend money on ONE album and leave the house.

There was a mania around Jackson that I and others on here actually lived through, and trust me….Swift isn’t close. Nobody has been. It’ll never happen again.

She’s one of the only artist right now that actually has fans who buy her albums lol

Her last album midnights sold over 1M PHYSICAL copies in its first week…

I can’t speak on Thriller obviously which has sold a shit ton of records during a time when you would go out to buy records but shes literally known as an album seller where people go out and but her albums even though streaming has taken over.

I think MJ was on another level though in my opinion at least based on what i’ve heard and videos i’ve seen lol….but i’d say she’s someone who comes close to that commercially at least again imo But i don’t think it’s fair to compare the two DIRECTLY cause they come from different eras of music consumption and that’s why this whole x,y,z is bigger than so and so for me is dumb. But i have no issues saying she’s one of the biggest if not biggest artists since the likes of MJ, Beatles, Madonna etc

  2. She does not have anywhere near enough showtimes to even challenge End Games OW and I don’t think she will get them either.

End Game really felt like it was playing at my theater 24 hours a day throughout the weekend. I don’t see that happening for Eras Tour. People will go watch End Game at 3AM. I don’t see that happening for Eras Tour.

*But for what it’s worth I did just check my local AMC and they added a bunch of show times for Saturday and Sunday (17 total). Right now first show time is 8:30AM with last one being 10:30PM. The biggest difference is the late showings as End Game had showings going late into the evening. So yea no way.

But I’m fully on the over Barbie OW and could see something like $180M or so.

Watch her open to 198.9M proving that she in fact made a deal with satan himself ☠️

Even billboard admits Drake is the biggest artist of the 2010s, as well as the biggest hitmaker of the 21st century. But the media is just not going to sing the triumphs of a rapper as loudly as they will for a girl-next-door soccer mom friendly pop star.

Anyway, the culture for that success to translate to box office concert film is not there. It's a specific audience that would actually go out to the theaters like this. The only rapper whose fanbase I could imagine buying movie tickets would be Nicki Minaj, or maybe Kanye now that I think of it. But even then they'd probably be lucky to do One Direction numbers.

There will definitely be attempts at following in Taylor's footsteps. The person I imagine being most capable is Beyonce, but obviously not on this level.

Beyonce is supposedly shopping a tour documentary around to streamers and not getting offers she likes. I could totally see her transition to a theatrical release and strike a deal with theater chains similar to this.

I guess every single big studio is calling Tay Tay right now. It’s crazy what is happening with her in the US. Like in Europe she is nowhere near Adele for example but Us makes up for it.

Anyway, I think studios will absolutely search roles for her if this opens to something crazy like 150M plus.

Maybe Tangled ? Have her star and write some original songs. There…

when her rumored role as Dazzler in Deadpool 3, turns into her joining deadpool and wolverine on their adventure :sparta:

This is remotely not true lol

And I'd say any modern-day artist regardless of gender who reaches the kind of popularity Taylor Swift will have a large share of people scrutinizing them, with social media making them much louder. It's just what comes with reaching that kind of popularity. The Beatles and MJ didn't have to face that because they didn't live in a time of social media. Turning this into a misogyny thing feels disingenuous lol

Are we seriously acting like public scrutiny is something that’s only started to happen recently? The beatles and MJ didn’t have to face that because they were men. None of this is new. Madonna went through the same thing. Like are we going to act like the media and society didn’t rip Madonna apart throughout her career? For different reasons of course. Beyonce literally stopped giving interviews because of how the media treated her.

This isn’t anything new for women.

ETA: I used Madonna and Beyonce as examples because imo they’ve endured similar levels of success as Taylor but I could go down a list of female artists from various decades prior to social media who’ve went through similar.

  6. I am actually excited to follow the box office again. This tour movie is so interesting to follow for so many reasons. Every time i check back in this thread i’m surprised by how well it’s doing

And I just know Taylor and her team are watching how successful this is becoming and will work to make sure they find a way to build on it to sell even more tickets. That’s what she always does.

  7. There’s no bigger artist in the world or the USA right now than Taylor Swift. You might not like her but the data speaks for itself.

I also find it interesting how when a female or even female franchise is successful there’s always people who try to downplay her success or claim they can’t seem to understand why she’s successful.

If a male artist was doing what Taylor is currently doing there would be ZERO argument about their place amongst the greatest artists of all time. If this was Drake people would be calling him the GOAT. I just don’t know what more a female artist has to do to prove her place amongst the beatles, MJ etc She sells out stadiums as if she’s selling girl scout cookies and has thousands more outside of her stadiums, is consistently amongst the best selling artists year after year, is literally the biggest streaming artist right now in the world, just dropped a concert film that’s projected to gross hundreds of millions of dollars, she is very well respected amongst her peers and has had a lot of influence on up and coming artists but most of all so many females regardless of their age look up to her and yet despite all of that there’s still question as to her place in music history.

You don’t have to like her or her music but to disregard or question her achievements and talent is all bull shit.

And this isn’t just exclusive to Taylor. I see it time and time again where people downplay female anything and it just needs to stop.

Friday is at 416K in the morning. Its insane how much its growing after its initial rush. Should hit 10m soon and that will be close to DS2 final number at MTC1(10.25m) !!!

I don’t anticipate the rush to buy tickets to die down anytime soon. In fact, all these headlines with it breaking records and showtimes selling out rather quickly is gonna make people wanna buy their tickets sooner rather than later. The people who missed out on the real concert aren’t going to want to miss out on this.

Also, I expect more families to attend this than people expect. A lot of young kids love taylor and unfortunately a lot of them couldn’t go to concert for whatever reason. My good buddy’s wife is planning a whole event for this thing for their kids and friends kids. They’re planning to dress up, make friendship bracelets beforehand and go as group. I imagine lots of families will be doing that as well.

The only thing that will limit this movie’s potential especially on opening weekend is showtimes

I have read on Twitter she's kinda of very very famous in China (someone even wrote she is the most selling western artist ever in the country) i think the release of this in China (since she won't tour there cause for some reason seems like western artists can't make concerts in china right now)  could be very interesting in terms of numbers? 🥶

She is huge in China actually. Like her numbers are actually insane over there for a western artist. So you do bring up an interesting point that if she were to release this in China, it has the potential to do very very well.

Sure she has fans in their 30s, but I don't think they are the main ones going to her concert movie. Maybe they buy her newest albums, but this movie is going to be attracting mainly her younger audiences.

Are we talking about the same 30+ year olds who make friendship bracelets to exchange at her concerts cause if so then you better believe those same people will be lined up for this movie.

Her fans are all die hards regardless of their age. And she’s only gotten bigger and bigger and bigger that almost feels like most people i meet are self proclaimed swifties.

It’s actually wild in my opinion but I am

also a self proclaimed swiftie and will be attending this concert movie just like i attended the real life thing 😝

Why would Marvel do that? Burning demand and spoiler fear. 😐

It's a common practice if the studio feels like there isn't the amount of buzz they want for a movie. I haven't really been following along with this film tbh so I am not sure where its at buzz wise but I know I've seen "concern" posts so maybe Disney/Marvel were feeling similarly and decided to nip all of that in the bud with early screenings. It's actually a really good idea especially if the movie is good/well received.
