  1. So I finally saw the trailer for this before Free Guy and thought it looked really good to the point where it's something I decided I'd see in theaters. Which is why I was dumbfounded by some of the comments in the last weekend thread about it. Really happy to see it's getting really good reactions and based on the tracking thread seems like it's going to open very well too.
  2. Anecdotal of course but Free Guy is having some solid walk ups at my theater. I bought my tickets last minute for the 8PM showing and I just got seated for it, checked the sales for it and it’s sold an additional 7 seats. Mind you I also just moved to the Northern Virginia area so not really sure how this theater usually works re walk-ups but just thought it was interesting. Anyways see y’all on the other side
  3. audience reception, streaming numbers and box office numbers say otherwise.
  4. no no Free Guy has over $125M budget and over $185M marketing budget and is a failure just like that other movie based on an IP that got released last week that won’t even reach the first day total of its predecessor.
  5. Really happy with Free Guy’s numbers. Of course wishing it could have gotten to $30M but off to a really strong start and WOM is really good. My theater was pretty full yesterday and it was a definite crowd pleaser. Let’s see how it holds up going forward.
  6. It was most likely a Reynolds idea and they went with it considering for the first Deadpool movie they released a shit ton of videos like that and it worked. It’s not free but it’s not overly expensive either. If I remember correctly, Ryan at one point with the first Deadpool talked about how inexpensive making and releasing those kinds of videos are cause really they just had costs for filming and nothing else cause the video would go online and go viral.
  7. Why would you like an under $20M international opening especially given how bleak numbers have been in general for movies across the board… If it’s just to call RR a flop, this movie can be a success and we can still have a discussion over which Hollywood stars have any true box office power and which are stars because of an IP behind them…
  8. I mean it’s still too early cause we have to see more numbers but to begin with their budgets…Suicide Squad has almost double the budget as this which means this won’t have to make as much to earn back the budget. Plus Suicide Squad is backed by the DC brand and this is an original film.
  9. Free Guy was really good and refreshing (?) I don’t know if that’s the word to use for it but just felt nice to see a big budget original film on the big screen. I really really enjoyed it but most of all, it was so nice being back in the theaters! Really happy to seems to being doing well this weekend
  10. Yea kinda confused by some of the reactions. The tracking thread had it a little less than $2M a couple days ago with $2.5M being best case as late as yesterday and the final number came right in the middle…
  11. This always seemed like a fun and original concept to me. And obviously with RR being in it, I am rooting for it but not gonna lie I didn’t expect the reviews to be solid. Hopefully gonna catch it on Saturday. This will be my first time going to theaters during the COVID era and probably will be the last with how things are going but I am so pumped to finally sit in a theater, watch a movie on the big screen and munch on some popcorn. Obviously want this to do well at the box office but I think the last year has made me appreciate the fact that we even get movies at the theaters more so than being concerned about BO numbers. So really hoping it’s a good time and I enjoy it!
  12. From what I have read, the actors with those types of contracts are upset, and rightfully so, that Gal Gadot got a check up front when WB decided to put Wonder Woman on HBO Max but they didn't even get told that their films were going to the platform. And I 100% agree with you that the biggest issue here is that literally none of the creative people involved were consulted. A lot of this could have been easily avoided had WB just waited to see how Wonder Woman did and then had conversations with the people who made their films slated to be released in 2021.
  13. if you don’t think tenet bombing at the box office forced WB/AT&T to reconsider their release strategy for their films then i don’t know what else to tell you. eta: i’m not saying tenet is the only reason why but tenet not doing well definitely played a role in how WB went about their release strategy. and in the end WB isn’t exactly wrong about putting their films on HBO Max as most people would actually agree with the decision given the circumstance but it’s how they went about doing it that’s causing the backlash.
  14. also i have to laugh at Nolan’s comments and i’m a huge Nolan fan. he’s the one who practically forced WB to release his film to theaters in the middle of a pandemic only for it to pretty much bomb which in a way made WB start thinking about throwing their slate of movies onto streaming, and now he is mad that WB doesn’t wanna release films exclusively to theaters?
  15. i do think that when things go back to normal, again whatever normal is post-covid, people are going to want to still go to the theaters and see movies. it may take sometime for that to occur as i just don’t know when that normal is going to occur and even when that new normal happens, we don’t know at what point people will be comfortable with going to theaters but i think eventually they will. the one thing disney has going for it, is that it planned out its streaming service to have new series and stuff debuting that will keep subscribers interested while they make decisions behind the scenes as to what they’re going to do with their movie slate. i do believe certain disney movies will premiere on disney plus next year, i just don’t think we are going to get an announcement with all of them listed all at once. *but also another factor to consider is that the longer they push back these films the more these films have to make money at the box office because if i’m not mistaken, studios take out these loans to fund the films which is why it’s always in the best interest of the studio to get the film out on its scheduled release date so they can pay them back. idk if disney is like that or if i misunderstood but i remember reading something along that line. which if this is the case, is another reason why i understand where WB is coming from but yea their execution....💀
  16. it’s going to still be a flop. i’ll probably sign up for it for next year because of the theatrical releases going on there but won’t sign up after that and i’m sure the folks signing up after the announcement was made are in the same boat. *also i’ll probably only sign up for the months when there’s a movie coming out that i would have seen in theaters. don’t know what their cancellation policy and resign up policy is but i’d try to plan it around that
  17. I mean it brought me back to the forums for a bit 😝😝 The crazy thing is that the rush to make this decision and announce it didn’t have to be rushed. It’s not like all their films were going to be available starting Jan 1st. They really could have waited and had discussions with people about this. With regards to people going to movie theaters again, not much was going to change between now and several months from now. Which is why I don’t see Disney making an announcement any which way about what their plans are...because they don’t have to at the moment. I think what disney might do and the smartest thing to do is play it by ear: see what the state of theater going is and have honest discussions with movie makers/talent about how they feel about their films going to Disney plus with the understanding that if they opt to not go to streaming no one knows when theater going will be normal again/what it means regarding box office potential and how much they can make back as a result (if they have a back end deal). WB just rushed this decision for no reason.
