The Box Office Buzz and Tracking Thread: Electric Boogaloo
Nova replied to grim22's topic in Numbers and Data
Of course my local theater doesn’t have BOP tickets up yet 🙄 The other theaters in my area I think are expecting a big OW for it. It has more showtimes than Shazam for Thursday night already for example. Nothing too crazy yet though. I took a peep at two theaters and sales right now are a bit soft for CBM but I’m expecting with good reviews it’ll have an up tick in sales in this last week. I’ll do a full count similar to what I did for Frozen 2 starting tomorrow (1 week out) but my data might be a bit funky cause 2 of the theaters I used to track Frozen 2 STILL DO NOT HAVE TIMES UP! WHAT THE FUCK! -
THE RHYTHM SECTION | January 31, 2020 | Paramount | Blake Lively

Coming in to say that Paramount are a bunch of dumb asses. Blake Lively is fantastic in this. Reed Morano is a great action director. The film’s script is its biggest down fall but Reed and Blake make it work. A shame cause if they didn’t just dump it, I really believe this could have been the start of a female action franchise for them. Oh well. -
I legit haven’t been able to stop crying since I found out about Kobe’s passing. One of my best friend’s passed away last April. Today was his birthday so me and a bunch of the guys planned a last minute get together to celebrate him. His favorite player ever was Kobe. Anytime the Lakers were in town, we would go to the game. From when we were kids. His dad used to take him and I. Then we got older obviously but still we made sure to go. He would be decked out in his Lakers hat and a Kobe jersey. Philly fans are ruthless typically but because Kobe was a “home town” kid, they were more forgiving. Back when we were younger and the sixers played the Lakers in the finals, we played a one on one game. I had my Iverson jersey on. He had his Kobe jersey. And we just had the best time together. Up until Kobe’s last game, we always bonded over watching him play. Had endless MJ vs Kobe debates which then became Lebron vs Kobe debates. I can keep going on and on about all the Kobe memories we had but fuck man this shit hurts. It feels like I lost my best friend all over again.

I’m in NYC for the next several days and a friend of mine snagged passes to a Monday night screening for this so I’ll be seeing what the deal is with this film exactly then. -

The gentlemen jumped to 26 tickets for tonight. The turning jumped to 24 tickets for tonight. The last full measure sold 1 ticket for tonight. There’s still 20 minutes left or so until the first showtimes but it seems like The Turning has a better walk up rate at my theater. -

Wait so The Gentlemen is looking at like $500K *if* there is an up tick in sales. But if it doesn’t it could go sub $500k? -

The Gentlemen is opening in roughly 2,000 theaters according to BOP so even though it’s wide it’s still a smallish release because I guess as @filmlover said the movie has limited appeal in the states. Still was hoping for a breakout but oh well. I hope I enjoy the movie because in the end that’s all that matters. -

My theater must have put up showtimes for the new releases either late last night or early this morning. So far 2 showtimes for each movie with The Gentlemen snagging a large screen and the other two getting pushed to smaller screens. The Gentlemen: 11 total The Turning: 0 💀 The Last Full Measure: 0 *Given that these just went up within the last day, I’m interested to see what increases if any these movies will have. I still think The Gentlemen can pull a surprise...nothing crazy but maybe a low to mid teens OW which would be solid but I think the other two are DOA.
