Didn't James Gunn say in his announcement video that its one of the best comic book movies ever made?

Yes but that doesn’t mean it’s better than TDK, or maybe he doesn’t think TDK is that good lol.

creed 3 is mostly getting 7-7.5/10 reviews; flash might be good for a superhero movie, but nothing ive seen or read makes me think itll be a masterpiece or anything like that

Has anyone said this is a masterpiece? Maybe @ViewerAnoncan correct me if I’m wrong but I believe all that was said was it was DC best tested movie since the dark knight, not that it’s as good as the dark knight or anything. I think it was just a crowd pleaser and that’s probably why the movie tested well and WB is confident. Maybe some sites have ran some BS articles but all I remember reading is WB is confident in this and it has tested well.

What if... Flash OD over Shazam 2 DOM?

All this stuff with Shazam is so depressing, I like Sandberg a lot, feel bad for him that all these changes happened and WB has other focuses now. I hope the movie turns out well and it can at least make like 100m domestic.

Okay, WB is genuinely confident here. This is the group which will be deciding the number of screens and size of those screens to allocate to the movie. This will either end really well for them or really badly, no in-between.

    Gonna be interesting for sure.

I get that shazam probably won't be a part of the gunn verse but presumably 9 figures was invested into producing this movie and WBD needs all the cash it can get so should they atleast attempt to give it a chance to succeed? Unless the test screenings have just been dreadful and they know its DOA

I want the movie to succeed more than anyone but it’s money they already spent from before so I’m sure they’re not overly concerned about it now and if these characters won’t be in future movies they probably want to invest that money into the new dcu. Right or wrong it is what it is.

In Gunn’s case, I wouldn’t consider him propping the movie up to be proof that it’s as great as it’s being cracked up to be. Out of all the DC movies coming out this year, The Flash is the one that’s most vital to the future of the company. It underperforming would not only be very bad for the future of the DCU, but WBD as a whole, if their financial situation is really as dire as we’ve been hearing.

I’m not saying the movie will be ravaged by critics, but the scoopers have consistently been making it out to be a huge crowdpleaser on the level of NWH that test audiences straight up cheered multiple times for, which feels borderline hyperbolic. It’s basically the polar opposite of what people like VA have now been saying about Aquaman 2.

I think Gunn will look pretty stupid if the movie isn’t pretty good. He didn’t have to go out of his way to say it’s “one of the best cbm” he’s seen. I understand he has a  larger stake in things now but really I’m not sure how much the flash is really gonna impact his movies going forward. The flash was basically the same movie it is now before Gunn and Safran took over minus some post credit scenes.

Gonna stop talking about the flash in this thread though, don’t want to derail it anymore.

With respects to this movie ill

be there opening day and I’m sure I’ll enjoy it to some varying degree but I’m glad DC has it’s own studio now.

At this point, I think it would be pretty funny if it turns out the scoopers were wrong about The Flash being the greatest thing ever. It’s really weird to me how much they’ve been going to bat for it.

Tbf gunn himself said he thought it was one of the best cbm he’s seen. He hasn’t said anything about Shazam in that context so I assume they think the movie is good. Who knows how the GA will react but at this point I don’t think we can say anyone has been lying about how the flash has tested. Again, that doesn’t mean that it’s gonna be some huge hit or everyone will love it but it must be at least “good”.

Seems pretty obvious Henry Cavill was fucking used to drum up excitement for Black Adam. Cavill got screwed as Supes but the attention has been good for his overall profile. WB looks bad (big surprise).

lol no one cares tbh, and honestly it’s more on the rock for trying to prop up his own movie and use Cavill as a hook. It was news for a day but the people online who actually follow this stuff are way more excited for the new DCU(and Gunns Superman), outside a small fanbase who spams hashtags everyone else has moved on.

I would have to imagine that Zaslav would’ve been a lot more likely to give in to whatever demands Cavill may have had if Black Adam hadn’t flopped. As it stands, you’re right about Cavill having no leverage, although that brief period where it seemed like he was back in the role might’ve given him the false impression that he really was in a position to bargain with WBD.

Agreed and I do feel bad for him but what can you do. I’m sure he’ll be fine.

  10. 5 minutes ago, WittyUsername said:

Well, supposedly, the reason the previous regime decided to cut ties with Cavill was because they found his demands unreasonable. I think it’s possible that Cavill’s agents may have tried to argue that he should get paid a certain amount of money that Zaslav thought wasn’t worth it. I’m not saying I know it for a fact. It’s just a fun little thing to speculate about.

Of course, assuming that Superman will be in the 25-30 range, then that would be a different story entirely, although that would beg the question of why Gunn even bothered clarifying “I never said he was going to be 25” on Twitter.

Anyway, count me as someone who would love for @grim22 to provide us the details.

100% they did that and I assume that’s why he has a different agent now. Life comes at you fast when you try to make demands and have no leverage. I think that all happened long before Zaslav came, they tried to leverage the studio for that Shazam cameo and in the end the studio decided to use Supergirl instead as we see in the flash.

I’m making an assumption because a Superman in his 30s doesn’t strike me as being very far off from a Superman who’s just barely in his 40s. When it was initially announced that they would be looking for a younger Superman, the assumption was that they wanted a Superman who was still green and in his mid-20s, which Cavill obviously wouldn’t be able to play.

If Gunn’s Superman is going to be an experienced hero who’s past his 20s though, then that kind of begs the question of why they’d even bother looking for a new actor. It’s not like Henry Cavill is geriatric. Sure, he’s turning 40 this year, but unless Superman is meant to be particularly young, that shouldn’t really matter much.

For the record, I’m simply going off a rumor I remember hearing a couple of months ago. I’m not saying it’s true. I’m merely saying that if they aren’t going for an especially young Superman, then that makes me more inclined to believe that rumor is true, especially given all the reports about how starved for cash WBD is.

I just don’t think Cavill in demanding that much money, he literally has zero leverage. I think Zaslav has shown he’s fine spending on things, just look at the flash superbowl ad. To him it’s about spending it in the areas he thinks are gonna reap the most benefits for the company(and himself).

With respects to Gunns Superman I still think he’s gonna cast someone in the 25-30 range. He just said on Twitter major casting announcements will be coming in the next 6 months so I assume we’ll know soon. I hope they save it all and do a huge SDCC panel.

Apparently, Gunn has recently implied that the new Superman won’t be as young as we thought he’d be (25). That makes me inclined to believe that Cavill really was let go because Zaslav thought he was too expensive.

Lol, way to make assumptions. Gunn already said Superman will be under 40 so why would they want to use Cavill who is already 39?

I doubt Cavill is even that expensive, Gunn obviously has a vision for his Superman and Cavill doesn’t fit that unfortunately, probably be someone in the 25-30 range.
