  1. The Great McGinty (1940) - 7/10 bordering on 8 Arise, My Love (1940) - 8/10 Christmas in July (1940) - 8/10 *It's Impossible to Learn to Plow by Reading Books (1988) - 6/10 *Dazed and Confused (1993) - 10/10 *Before Sunrise (1995) - 10/10 *rewatch
  2. These are available on HBO Max it seems, for anyone who's subscribed or is planning to (I was going off this list). So are Yojimbo, Cleo from 5 to 7, La Strada, Z, Late Spring, Late Autumn, Tokyo Story, the Three Colors films, The 400 Blows, Autumn Sonata, Bicycle Thieves, In the Mood for Love, Seven Samurai out of the stuff that's already been listed/FYC'd here. Plus ofc the Ghibli movies.
  3. I am not a fan of the donkey movie but as far as Bresson goes I do recommend Diary of a Country Priest (particularly to all fans of First Reformed) and A Man Escaped (to anyone interested in a spartan, minimalist take on a prison-break movie). Those are both his best and most accessible imo.
  4. My favorite Bergman after Persona is Smiles of a Summer Night, almost certainly his least "Bergman" movie. It's funny, sexy and wise and I can't recommend it enough.
  5. CMBYN has to be over 90% English-language. Certified Copy is an interesting grey-area case though.
  6. Nostalgia and Keanu should provide a huge opening but the legs on this could go every which way given that a Wachowski is still at the wheel and they've never been interested in playing it safe. A lot of people here seem to just take it as a given that the audiences are gonna love this, which I find weird.
  7. finally got back into regular movie-watching after only seeing like 10 movies in April and first half of May. a week heavy on pre-Code, screwball and Barbara Stanwyck Night Nurse (1931) - 7/10 The Bitter Tea of General Yen (1932) - 8/10 Baby Face (1933) - 7/10 Hands Across the Table (1935) - 8/10 Easy Living (1937) - 8/10 Midnight (1939) - 8/10 (but really the first 75 mins a solid 9 and the last 20 a 6)
  8. Some movies that weren't on my list(s) before but are looking to make it now after a watch or a revisit
  9. Truly, for some men nothing is written unless THEY write it. Lawrence of Arabia was directed by David Lean. It received 500 points and 37 votes
  10. How could I forget my own #1 jesus. Forgive me Marty
  11. Amazon Prime folks put this on your watchlists. It's really great.
  12. Amadeus has already shown up. I'm guessing Schindler, SPR, Lawrence, Grave and Dunkirk
