  1. Looks to me like it might easily tip over into contrived/melodramatic territory but I'm hoping that's just the trailer and Cianfrance will find the right balance in the finished film. I really like everyone involved so I'm looking forward to it, anyway.
  2. I'd think a decent expansion could get it to $10m or so. Kung Fu Hustle made $17m a decade ago.
  3. And the entire forum will pull a Nolan and suddenly stop talking to you
  4. That's just because you're already brainwashed by teh man-hating feminist propaganda
  5. Prisoners is very well-directed though. Its faults mainly lie in the screenplay. Enemy and Sicario don't have that problem so they're firing on all cylinders.
  6. I'm kinda bewildered that people not only consider Inside Out a comedy but think it's better at comedy than any other film last year.
  7. I was lukewarm on Crimson Peak but its costumes and art direction were a feast for the eyes if I ever saw one. Glad to see it picked up at least one of those.
  8. Actually this would give Sony a good chance to do what MGM did with Bond numbers back in the '90s, have it finish its run with $200,007,007 or something.
  9. It'll be over $199.8m this weekend, probably over $199.9m the next. It'll get there, should end up below Superman Returns' $200.081m though
  10. Looking at the supporting actor nominees in 2013 and lead actor nominees this year, Fassbender was easily the best among them both times. Can't wait for them to give him his own overdue Oscar in a year where he's like the 3rd or 4th most deserving nominee.
  11. It's a load of pandering, witless garbage that plays like a parody of surface-level Hollywood biopics. I can't remember the last time a movie talked down to me like I was in a primary school so much. I mean the only thing it needed to achieve full idiotic self-satisfied perfection was a scene where a child Trumbo gets bullied after reading something he's written out loud, and then his teacher says "Don't listen to them, Dalton, you have a GIFT" and the music swells and then the movie calls back to it an hour later or something, to double down on all the inspiration. Interminable.
  12. Weird-ass date. Even if they're just looking at Deadpool's success and thinking of owning January with a quality sci-fi movie, why not at least open limited over Christmas and keep a chance to grab a few Oscar nods? (Deakins, production design, etc). It will surprise me if they don't do that.
  13. Her performance is pretty much the only good thing about The Danish Girl, but still not award-worthy.
  14. If The Big Short wins Editing early in the ceremony it's got a fighting chance at BP. If not, it'll almost definitely lose, though it'd be fun and in spirit of the season if it still ended up winning by a couple of votes or something.
