  2. The third weekend drop will be closer to 60% than to 50%.
  3. Not necessarily. Looking at 2010, DH1 had a 2.356 IM this weekend, while Tangled had 2.495. On the other hand, both Breaking Dawns had a 2.49-2.5 internal multi. If Frozen and CF are within a million of each other on Friday, it's possible that nothing will be decided until actuals arrive.
  4. DH1 was the only Potter movie I liked post-POA, all due to it being a moody character-based road movie.
  5. Saw it. Don't see it. Honestly. Watch the original if you've never seen it, and if you have, just watch it again.
  6. Jackman's very good in Prisoners, and it's an actual performance rather than one-note screaming at the camera for three hours, but I wouldn't really call it a snub if he didn't get a nom in a year as strong as this.
  7. Well if Academy really loves the movie and Johannson's work in it (and they might just love it, the early reviews are sky high), I don't think Squibb, Martindale, Spencer or JLaw will be able to absolutely and necessarily stand in the way. I agree that Nyong'o and Oprah are pretty much locked, but anything can happen with the remaining three spots.
  8. I can't recall the last time a movie's estimates were $4-5 million above actuals. And when it comes to huge openers, Avengers, TDK, SM3 and DMC were all originally underestimated by a few million
  9. It'd probably be pretty easy with documentaries, us six people who've seen The Act of Killing would all vote for it and that'd be it
  10. 1. I'm in favor of 6 2. Single vote's okay 3. Sure, why not (for both horror and docs)
  11. Check out some classic noir films - The Maltese Falcon, Double Indemnity, The Third Man, The Big Sleep, just off the top of my head. Lawrence of Arabia, 2001, Rosemary's Baby, Vertigo, The Apartment, The Killing, Paths of Glory, Rear Window, A Streetcar Named Desire, All About Eve, Sunset Blvd., Casablanca, Citizen Kane are all must-sees when it comes to English-language films made before 1970.
  12. Sorry if it's been discussed already, but did CF pass IM3 in terms of attendance?
  13. Frozen would need at least $50m for the 3-day weekend. $55m if it wants to pass 200 comfortably and not too late in its run. I dunno. Right now I'd say $45m for 3-day, $175-185m total.
  14. xhibitor Relations ‏@ERCboxoffice29s THE HUNGER GAMES: CATCHING FIRE scorched the earth with a worldwide debut of $307.7M--$161.1M domestic, $146.6M Int'l.
  15. GoldenEye OW: $26,205,007 Tomorrow Never Dies: $25, 143,007 The World Is Not Enough: $35,519,007
  16. I envy you. (and Baumer). The only time it snowed here this year was a month ago, and then it's been around 0ºC, windy and completely dry for the whole November. First time I can remember that happening here - usually by mid-November the snow is there for good.
  17. Wasn't there myself (on the forums I mean), but I started hearing some legends about that Kal guy immediately after I joined in 2010
  18. Are there many people saying TASM2 and TF4 will do 300+, and F&F7 will do 275+? I don't think there are, even though trailers and other promos could yet create hype in our heads that eventually proves somewhat unrealistic. I've seen overblown predictions for CA2 after that trailer, but TDW's performance must have cooled those expectations.
  19. I still remember when, about a week after I first discovered BOM, Dead Man's Chest opened and destroyed SM1's OW record, and how crazy and overwhelming it felt. 5 years later, BD1 exceeded its opening by a couple of million, and all I thought was, whatever.
