Not really? Some Nolan stuff, Wolf of Wall Street, Django, Endgame… what other really notable examples in the 10s are there? This decade in 21-23 has had Eternals, No Time to Die, Dune, No Way Home, Elvis, The Batman, A2, Babylon, GotG3, Black Panther 2, Opp, DR1, Dominion was right on the cusp… that’s just the ones I can think of off the top of my head.

Transformers 3 and 4, the Hobbits, The Girl with the Dragon Tattoo, Les Miserables, BVS, The Last Jedi, Blade Runner 2049, It Chapter Two, Ford v Ferrari, both other Tarantino films you didn't mention, and that's just those that made any money and not counting a whole other bunch of movies that just got in at, like, 148 minutes.

it doesnt matter if this people will watch this movie for the first time or not. there wasnt movie with 100mln opening released in july with with legs as barbie needs to reach 630.

There wasn't a movie with 100mln opening released in July that had a sub-50% second weekend hold and reached 400m in 14 days, and then Barbie did both quite easily.

Yeah what I said months ago that I can imagine it being Scorsese vs Nolan in best director while some small heartwarming movie sneaks away with best picture still seems like the likeliest scenario to me. Though it seems like people are settling on that small movie being The Holdovers and I dunno but something seems off about that pick to me. Movie looks dated.

A Palme winner isn't small exactly but I could see Anatomy of a Fall sneaking up on it, paving the path by winning original screenplay and actress. It's not just a critical darling but supposedly entertaining/crowdpleasing too, and Neon knows how to push a movie. Or maybe this is gonna be the year where the curveball is the absence of one, and Oppy is finally that one megahit that unites enough people behind it.

It's the budget of the movie and you can see it honestly. I mean not exactly 180 but i see the 150. So not far away from that.

100m Is too low. RDJ alone is not taking less than 15M even if supporting.

    Quote

the ensemble includes such A-listers as Robert Downey Jr., Matt Damon and Emily Blunt in supporting parts. Any one of these players could command $10 million to $20 million on the open market, but for the privilege of working with Nolan, they’re giving the studio a big discount, pulling in $4 million apiece. Still, like Cruise, all have backend participation built into their deals. So if “Oppenheimer” beats the odds to be the rare serious drama to achieve blockbuster status, they could profit handsomely.

SM for sure now that its Wed hold is better than WW. It made 2.83M on Wed vs WW's 2.76M. Since WW made 15.7M 3 day and 24M 5 day I guess AtSV should post similar numbers. Meaning 400M is happening. WW was gaining on weekends and losing on weekdays but this time AtSV looks set to match it on weekend so gap won't be big enough to miss 400M.

Animated films do better on summer weekdays than PG-13 live action blockbusters. Then they typically have smaller increases on Friday and Saturday.
