  1. Can't agree more. I discovered AMC Dolby last summer, and since then I have been watching all the blockbusters in Dolby Cinema on Saturday morning. The ticket price for a 1030am showing is much cheaper than an IMAX ticket on a weekday evening. Plus there is usually no kid. I watched La La Land twice in Dolby. The color and the sound is just absolutely amazing. I already loved that movie but Dolby made it even better.
  2. Just back from watching Xmen, not many people in the theatre at all. BVS and CW were both full in the same theatre on opening night. And I was disappointed. Was going to check out Alice tomorrow, but no longer in the mood any more. Maybe I should go watch Zootopia again, if the nearest AMC still has it.
  3. Went to see the Nice Guys today. The 5pm showing was already close to sold out when I tried to book the ticket in the morning. My friend and I have to sit in the front. It's a great movie. I hope more people will go see it. The ending clearly leaves space for a sequel and I want that to happen.
  4. Good number. Not as fun as Deadpool's or BvS's 2nd weekend. Still curious to see if this will have a better hold than IM3 and AoU in following weekends. If not, then maybe WOM is just not as a big factor as I thought for MCU movies.
  5. I am just confused. Why would it have a worse 2nd weekend drop than IM3 and AOU with a much better WOM? It should be more front loading than CA:WS, but as front loading as or even more front loading than IM3 and AOU? I am believing that piracy is hurting CW significantly. The day to day drop was good until the high quality version hit internet. That's like the only logical reason I can think of right now.
  6. I think this is true. Hand to hand battle in superhero movies may be refreshing for audience here, but nothing new for the Chinese audiences. And despite being incredibly fun, the airport battle doesn't have that "epic" vibe IMO, plus there is no giant robot or giant monster. Also, I learned today that this movie might have started a "civil war" between cap's and ironman's fangirls on the Chinese internet. I saw people bringing this up as a reason why the box office is not up to expectation, although I don't know how exactly fangirls can actually influence movie goers and hurt box office.
  7. Agree that this is very unusual, both the quality and right after the opening weekend. I haven't seen any decent quality GIF of BVS yet. This will definitly hurt repeat viewing, but not sure by how much. The impact on China's box office will be pretty big too.
  8. I wonder how much damage will the high quality leak do to the box office. Some of my friends were talking about it over lunch. Gifs and movie clips are everywhere.
  9. Bad bad bad music choice. Agree that orchestra would work way better. The action looks pretty good though. I am looking forward to the next trailer and hopefully they will show some of the story plot.
  10. I actually agree with you. What I mean by that post is that many people, like me, made a prediction of 200M or higher OW based on CW being a Cap sequel with Iron Man and other heroes. And I never see this movie as an Avengers movie. Just because people were expecting an Avengers level number doesn't necessarily mean they think CW is an Avenger movie.
  11. It is not the Avengers, but it is defenitely not as solo as the other Captain America movies or any stand alone MCU movie when it has more heroes than TA and AOU. If this is Captain America: Serpent Society featuring cap, bucky, falcon, agent 13 and maybe black widow, and it opens to 180M, nobody will be disappointed. When you have a lineup of the Avengers without Thor and Hulk but with Black Panther and Spiderman, people just expect more than a Cap movie, no matter it is or it is not a pure cap movie.
  12. It is a Cap movie, but its box office definitely benefits from having Iron Man, other Avengers, and debut of Black Panther and a new Spiderman. They are shown in the trailer and on the poster(except for spiderman). This is clearly not the usual stand alone MCU movie where people constantly complain about other Avengers not showing up. In terms of box office, it makes much more sense to compare CW with an Avenger movie. Not because it is an Avenger movie, but its box office draw is much closer to Avenger than any solo movie.
  13. It is a Captain America movie and it is not. For some people, the title only stating "Captain America" is good enough. For other people, the title alone is not enough. I think it is not simply because captain and iron man occupy same amount of space on the poster. You can just change "Captain America" to "Iron man" without changing anything else and the poster will work just fine.
  14. Finished my second viewing this afternoon in a theatre right next to a college campus. There wasn't as many people as I thought for a Friday afternoon, but still decent. And there was already a line formed for the 7pm showing by 6:15 so that should do just fine. For the OW, I think anything above 180m is great. With the amazing WOM, this still has a good chance to do over 200m. Maybe Mother's day will be a trouble on Sunday. I heard people talking about taking their mom to see that, and they will probably bringing the whole family.
  15. I feel so sorry for Dylan. I did't love the first two films, but I actually enjoyed them. Hopefully he will get better soon.
