  1. Anyways, most of what I wanna say about it you can find in the comments section about it on the StarWarsCantina subreddit, literally the last toxic Star Wars community I’ve ever found on the internet.

What I’ll say here though is that I hope Disney doesn’t stop producing stories out of the Skywalker era just because this one didn’t do as well as they’ve hoped.

Star Wars fans who only want nostalgia Skywalker shit and get shrill whenever things deviate from the beaten path will literally be the death of this franchise as things stand.

I  also hope Disney will have learned from the change with MCU shows that a tv show needs to be structured as such, not as movies. A lot of the undeniable problems this one had (as do many other Star Wars and MCU shows) were caused by that.

They’re fixing that with the new Daredevil show, hopefully they’ll fix that with the Star Wars shows too.

  2. Just binge watched it last couple of days.
This was… Absolutely fine? 7/10 or something?

I have no idea where all the hatred comes from. It certainly could have had better dialogs (still better than the prequels on this though), some characters could have had better development (Bazil??? Helloooo? What were you doing mate??)  but overall it felt like they got to where they wanted to get to just fine with it.

All this crazy hate online for it… Just 2024 things I guess.

Anyone who’s more tapped into the book world, what are some other recent hits that would be ripe for film adaptations?

I mostly only read fantasy, Fourth Wing was huge but isn’t that already being adapted by Amazon or something as a series? Brandon Sanderson’s stuff I’m not sure how well would translate to the screen, but even if it did I feel like a series would work better.

Hoover has quite a few hits. Lessons in Chemistry has already been adapted. John Green’s books have mostly all been adapted at this point.

The Invisible Life of Addie LaRue by Victoria Schwab could make for a great romantic movie, at least I think so.

  4. How do you waste such a cast? I think that should be the biggest question here!

Most other shitty video game adaptions had a cast ranging from meh to garbage, but this one actually had a bunch of very successful actors coming together (seeing all of them being announced for this hyped the hell out of me actually) and then, according to reviews, they couldn't make a single good joke or a single dramatic moment land? How is that even possible?

Has there ever been anything like this before? Maybe Pluto Nash? (not a video game adaptation though)

    Ouch.

I played the original game for a couple of hours. Wonderful art style inspired by cel-shaded graphics (despite devs denying cel-shading). Post apocalyptic punk glitz. They should've gone Tank Girl, but they chose...this.

A Tank Girl rip-off would have been way better than what feels like the 100th generic GOTG ripoff we got since Guardians came out. In fact it would’ve been awesome, and now I’m sad for what could’ve been.

This is clearly another video game, corpo-headed movie in which everyone involved didn't knew / understands  the franchise.

Says the person with a Warcraft movie character as their profile picture. Not that you’re wrong, but it’s funny.

I actually really enjoy the Warcraft movie by the way, I watch it occasionally, but I know I’m in the minority and I acknowledge that I probably only enjoy it because I never cared for the games.

Sadly I don’t think Borderlands will become a guilty pleasure of mine as well going from what the critics are saying, but who knows.

The Marvels failed as it required you watch a tv series that most of the audience hadn’t even seen yet.  It was the best example of how linking storylines in with television was a recipe for disaster.

And then Disney decided to do it again with their next Star Wars movie! It's kinda crazy to think about it.

I mean, people generally do love Mando (myself included), and maybe Disney thinks that plus baby Yoda is hook enough, but damn that's risky after The Marvels.

Planned or not, they’re  definitely doing something with this now, probably in an Avengers movie, but it actually could be in a Thor or Deadpool movie.

I do think they might have a vague plan about it already, because Deadpool mentioned that scene a couple of times during the movie and Ryan seems to fixate on it as well. Either way, that will definitely pay off somewhere down the line, planned or not.

  9. The more I think about this movie, the more I'm happy this was more of a FoXmen movies send-off than a MCU movie.

As someone who was one of the biggest X-Men movies fan around (who else watched Apocalypse in the movie theater twice?), I'm so glad they got such a nice send-off, truly deserved.

The behind-the-scene reels for FOX superheroes' movies playing with the end credits honestly felt so nice to me.

I doubt a FOXmen film like D and W will be boosting the Marvel films next year. Guardians 3 did not even help the Marvels

I think it helps because, well, Deadpool is in the MCU and everyone knows that now, but I do think the same as you that this film felt much more like a FOXmen (hey, I liked that) movie, which, as a huge fan of those X-Men movies, I thought was very sweet actually.

I would very much argue The Boys is overstaying it's welcome, and it becoming a franchise makes its satire weak. Like, it's hard to laugh at a scene where they parody slate reveals when they just annouced a spinoff with Stormfront as one of its leads.

Satire always suffers when reality becomes too close to it, which is why satire sometimes can be so hard to make; reality truly can be stranger than fiction.

The Boys had already lost some power in Season 3 when they had to ramp up Homelander’s craziness and evilness

because too many weirdos were starting to see him as the hero of the story.

This general media illiteracy is another reason satire is really hard to make.

  13. I was literally in the car coming back from seeing (and loving) Deadpool & Wolverine when I see this news! Talk about a double shot of adrenaline right into my arm!

I am so totally 100% excited about Avengers all over again after the Kang let down, you guys have no idea.
