  1. The days of Hollywood making big bucks in China is over. MCU, FF, Transformers,  Avatar (many predicted it would gross $500M or more), and other movies constantly breaking $100M back then. But now it’s different landscape. No wonder why MI7 will also dropped (looking at bad presales). Hopefully with the quality of movies and receptions, it’ll have strong legs to minimize the drop from Fallout.

Why do people keep assuming that Indiana Jones has much value as a brand without Harrison Ford? What is supposed to set Indiana Jones apart from his imitators, if not Harrison Ford?

The most valuable thing isn’t the brand nor Harrison Ford but the concept. How many franchises or original movies that depict the life of adventurer with the plot of going around the world, uncover secrets, fighting bad guys, full of mystery, focused on ancient history lore and fun real life world journey??? Just a few and almost none. But Indiana Jones have all of that. Disney will try to reboot or resurrect it sometimes later in future cause there’ll always be opportunity to make some money from those demographics that loves this kind of stories and some audiences who are tired of the same kind of movies hence looking for something different like this one.

Now we all don’t know if IJ still a valuable brand or not. So Disney probably will reboot it first to rely on nostalgia. If it failed then Disney would abandon it and create new franchises that similar concept to IJ.

  3. Insidious opens 12 July/next Wed. Indonesia loves horror so much. Insidious is a major franchise here. Insidious 4 almost made as much as Fallout. Both made over $9M. Will be an interesting battle next week and the first challenge for Mi7 to see how it’ll hold off to major competition.

on 19th July Barbenheimer both will open on the same day for 5-days long weekend. It’ll be another challenge for MI7 in terms of screens. 4 big releases together with limited number of cinemas will definitely hurt all the movie’s potential.

  4. I have a BLASSTTT watching this. Have everything that makes you love MI. Action was  a bit down from Fallout or RN or GP. Not many crazy action set piece. But oh boyyy, the suspense and scripts are killing it. Brilliant and innovative use of villains. Plot a little confusing but Love the way it goes. Uncovering the story one by one and that makes me feel on the edge of my seat every time. A slow burn MI movies but on the other hand keeps you exhilarating without feeling dragged (Which also the reasons I love Fallout). Some really emotional moments :raining:and humor pretty funny. Tom Cruise Running :OMG:. Ready for my second viewing early next weekkkk.

Bottomline: This is the second best MI movies for me after Fallout. Tom Cruise was more handsome in Fallout while RN Rebecca Ferguson was the most beautiful.

Yeah this one is pretty fantastic. The best sequences for me were the ones that emphasised on suspense although the usual action ones are well executed ofc. Hayley Atwell definitely stood out for me her role is a good departure from previous MI leading females.

The Part One is somewhat justified but it's a more complete film than AtSV or Fast X.

I'm not sure anything will top Fallout for me in this series but this comes damn close.

    How about my girl Ilsa?

  6. Movieman also insisted all the time that GotG wouldn’t have legs and when it did, he never talked about it anymore. He also claimed that Elemental legs in the summer is nothing impressive unless it can hit 7x like PiB. And now he’s talking about Nolan having no pull power. I guess when Opp breakouts and does amazing numbers, he’ll probably gone again or argue that nuke scene saves the movie.

    I feel WTS (Maoyan/Taopiaopiao) unusual.

Oh My School! opens on the same day as MI7 (WTS 188K vs 134K). PS window is opened for OMS (MI7 should open today in 2 hrs per my source)

The Biggest Competition will be on 20 July with Creation Of Gods (WTS 294K &OD PS ¥1.28M) & Next Day i.e. 21 July with 超能一家人 (WTS 923K &OD PS started while ago ¥729)

I would call it a free 7-Days run until Creation &超能一家人 (Both likely cannibalising each other) but I am more afraid of 超能一家人 which was the most anticipated movie of 2021 Spring Festival until "Watergate Bridge" entered the scene and they were forced to pull out. It's like wow that it took 2 years to find a release date.

Well, looks like MI7 got *not so good* release date. Fingers crossed the movie also resonates with audiences and grow good legs to thrive between the competition.

Oppenheimer seems to purge in China. From Writer's source - it's been in waiting list and Censors seems to give more pass to romance films.

Writer's source didn't accuse Censors but questioning Universal mediator relevance.

No wonder they don’t let it release in China. Movies about US military always gets banned like Maverick. China maybe has softened their regulations to Hollywood and change some of their movie regulators since then but still it’s nearly impossible to let US documentary war movie gets release.

    THU Forecast

¥86.70M - Lost In The Stars

    ¥58.64M - Never Say Never

    ¥48.32M - White Storm 3

I am expecting NSN to be another LitS. Well let's see.

So many locals making insane money right now. Any idea will they hurt MI7 somehow?? And any another big Chinese release or potential breakout that open during MI7 weekend or week after?

  10. Just watched the first one today and I LOVE ITTT.

The movie looks beautiful. Interesting premise. Full of political theme and promises of rebellion to come. Serious tone. Romance. Fantasy elements. Insane world building. Also a novel adaptation..
Kinda reminds me of may favorite novel adaptation saga ever: Hunger Games.

The epic sci-fi edition of Hunger Games.

    HYPEDDD FOR THE SECOND PART

  11. Elemental might still be a flop. But its reception, WOM, legs and upcoming “not as disastrous as we thought” box office total prove that there’s still audiences for Pixar in cinemas. Families are coming back to cinema again and Pixar doesn’t deserve to be dumped in streaming that quick.

As long as the qualities are there (like what Pixar usually does) and Disney not fucking up the streaming date, Pixar can still be successful. Elemental gives that idea. Hopefully it also gives Disney some confidence and lessons to delay it to streaming for another 6 months. If Disney does that then I believe Elio and next Pixar projects will be successful again like Pixar used to pre pandemic.

Elemental will be *that* one movie that dug Pixar out of the grave. It earns the audiences trust back, taught Disney lessons and perfectly captures the enormous worth of Pixar brand that’s still left in Cinema industry.

Always funny to see MI7 see Indy 5 as bigger competitor, only to realise two relatively unproven underdogs Barbie and Oppenheimier are the bigger deal.

Actually with the new date, MI7 will be closer to Indy than Barbie/Oppenheimer. Just 10 days space from Indy opening which is yesterday 28 June (the old date is 14 days space). On the other hand, MI7 is distancing itself from both Barbie/Oppenheimer which is scheduled on 19 July (was only a week space, now 11 days space).
