  1. Her acting in mother! was even better than in Winter's Bone.
  2. It sure was different from its cinemascore by people who had actually seen it. (audience rating, that is) Yes. Moviepass grayed it out, amongst other things. I honestly think it was a really good movie that most people would like (not all, given violence and nudity.) I understood why mother! wasn't everyone's cup of tea, but I am wondering if the actual numbers we get Monday might be different than the estimates if moviepass stops graying it out. I guess at this point, I'll have to wait and see. Now I have to get work done because I quit early yesterday to go see Red Sparrow....
  3. well, I'm not agreeing about 'post mortem' yet.... This is a truly good movie, so I'm hoping it will find its audience world wide.
  4. But DW would be doing worse, and RS better (it had been predicted higher) without this. Many of the posts about not being able to use moviepass with red sparrow said they went to DW instead, and The Verge said Movie Pass had been promoting DW and not RS on its app. Pretty consistent glitch. So maybe moviepass DOES impact box office... Actually, I have no idea how well DW would be doing otherwise. Some of the people who couldn't get into RS went to other movies.
  5. This must be pretty widespread, this is like the third write up of it I have seen. edit... well, and the fourth... more at link
  6. These scores could be legitimate, but I know Trump supporters are targeting Red Sparrow and building up Death Wish - and were before either came out. RT has no proof any of their voters have seen these movies, it isn't like fandango where at least you have to have bought a ticket. Everyone at my screening seemed to really enjoy it, and the manager was discussing putting it in a bigger theater as I left, due to the full house in the early afternoon on Friday. I'm thinking real life word of mouth is going to be pretty good.
  7. I'm not bothering to argue that it isn't, any more, but THR is bothering 'Red Sparrow' Is Not the Marvel Rip-Off You've Heard It Is more at link. But as I said, I'm not arguing the point any more. I will say, though, that if you want to see an adult targeted version, you'd better see this one.
  8. If you saw it, you'd know. I don't remember the spoiler rules for the movie thread during opening weekend.
  9. I saw this and really enjoyed it. It wasn't perfect, but I can't remember the last time I saw a perfect film, and I think the WOM is going to be much more good than bad. PS it is hard to see how any people could think this was exploitative rather than empowering, to be honest. Yes there is nudity. And very violent violence. Be warned, I guess.
  10. I had thought they were originally scheduled at the same time. I'm glad they aren't, although I'm not happy RS is pushed back so far it will clearly have been leaked already. Three of the four sympathetic characters in the movie are Russian. The GOVERNMENT isn't presented very well.... Saw it, loved it, and am much more confident the number it will end the weekend with will start with a '$2'. I missed my show last night so I went to an afternoon show today - at 1pm. I don't usually go to those, but are they usually full when it isn't a holiday? Part of the entertainment was watching this one guy who clearly didn't have a real ticket getting bounced from his seat about eight times by people who did have tickets, each time having to move closer to the screen, until he ended up in the corner of the front row. When I left, the manager was talking to the ushers about how the crowd and been, and whether it should be moved to a bigger screen. All in all, a very satisfactory screening experience!
  11. I've seen people saying Red Sparrow opened number 1 in Germany and Italy, but I can't find any source. Maybe it was on their local news. I wonder how it will do in Russia -- particularly opening the same time as Infinity War.... , at least that is what I've heard..
  12. I said that somewhere and was told that ads BEFORE the superbowl were bargains next to most superbowl spots. However, there were tv buys, no question, at the Olympics as well. That is a number that might be reported somewhere eventually, though. The rest of the advertising was mostly Jen and Joel going on talk shows.
  13. I was thinking back to a discussion here that @Barnack wrote of the breakdown for profitability, but I am sure it varies.
  14. triple budget for break even seems like a number people use when they want a film to seem unsuccessful. I thought it was the low 2's for averaging, and reality was more income stream specific - not that we are ever likely to know that. But yeah, it looks like Red Sparrow has started better than some were expecting, even in the US, so I'm just hoping it does well enough for a sequel, or two (there are two more books).
  15. I think this movie was aimed at least as much at overseas take as domestic, but they may have been optimistic. We'll find out. I'd like sequels, I think (I'll see it today. I missed my time last night.) I suspect a lot of what Jen was going to get was in the back end, though... That is how it was for both Mockingjay movies, and that was the time frame when she was negotiating this.
  16. Yeah. There's weather on the east coast now, but it isn't a hurricane. That's pretty much what I was thinking. I think it will do well overseas. So far all I know is that it opened #1 in Italy, though. People who actually call themselves 'Trumpers' are actively agitating against the movie. And for DW for that matter, although I don't know, the people who went to see it to begin with might like it. The RT audience score is an easy target, with no requirement of actually seeing the movie. Jen is attending the Oscars as well - which she didn't do last year. I know it means I'll be watching (at least the red carpet) when I wouldn't have otherwise.
