  1. True but at some point that formula will wear thin as most do.. What the MCU had going before was major star power performances that became iconic but also led towards something grander and we had never really seen that before. The new batch of releases fair or not don't have the same wow factor of Downey Jr. as Tony or Thanos the big bad in the shadows.. Of course they aren't dead but challenges for the MCU will happen. No longer easy street.
  2. not much to say now other than Eternals probably does decent maybe DOM and probably good overseas but falls short on quality. There are other MCU movies that a worse to me they just got a pass for whatever reason.
  3. Yeah MCU and all... but Eternals not the same brand name as Thor MCU or not... to me anyway..
  4. Y'all really believe the next batch of MCU movies for 2022 are going above pre-pandemic levels? i don't see it..
  5. +1 For Miami Vice. Was on The Rewatchables once too. Mann was on the "Three Heat" ep. discussing how people love the movie now with Chris Ryan and Bill Simmons. it's had a rejuvenation.
  6. $75M sounds good but hard to compare to others. There's no D+ same day release. So Eternals would be comparable to SC but not to BW. BW probably performs better even with the D+ model.. Probably have to wait for legs to tell the real story.
  7. Can Joker really be a comparison.. that was what I would call divisive. Maybe Eternals can be just as divisive but with Joker the movie is 68% or something on RT but an average score over 7 I think.. Then you factor in the awards run it went on all the praise it received from acting and directing academies...etc. That's what I would call divisive. Not sure Eternals will be like that.
  8. If it's genuinely "a lot different" than a typical MCU movie in a way that has me more intrigued. I wouldn't rule out liking it more than the BW, CM, AOU types that felt unnecessary and formulaic
  9. They spent a lot of money on the project and has an A+ director attached with a highly paid ensemble cast. it's not Spider-Man but it's not a 6 episode Disney+ series either. it's a big deal.
  10. i didn't realize the TC score for WW84 was so high. Are there other instances where that has happened? RE: Eternals.. the TC score is lower than the general score so as more reviews come in it's possible that the general score does stay within that 65-70% range or so which is not that bad. Disappointing maybe but not horrible.
  11. Sounds like an apples to oranges comparison. TSS was a same day release on HBO Max and Eternals is not on Disney+. The comparison should be Shang Chi
  12. Can't say i really bought the Oscar talk, it doesn't seem all that thought provoking or a film that has a lot to say. That doesn't mean it can't be enjoyable. The reviews remind me of the first time i saw the trailer. Mixed bag. How could some of the shots be so beautiful and then others be below average quality cgi? i sure was confused by that. But then again the cgi might not have been finished. i'll watch. i end up watching all of these anyway. No reason to melt down here. No reason to dig for conspiracy theories or question critics. Sometimes a studio just makes an average movie or a bad movie. i must be getting old. Much of Phase 1 wasn't well received but people don't seem to remember that. With how many critics there are now the Thors or iron man sequels or even AOU could have been lower by today's standards.
  13. i said that 5 pages ago and people disagreed with me. You can really only compare TSS to OTHER HBO Max movies..
  14. They aren't gonna do that because Joker was one of the most profitable CBM's of all time. But they could stand to choose better on what ones are rated R and not...
  15. how can that be a direct comparison? You have to already have Disney+ and then pay $29.99 after. So the total is $36 and change. You might as well just go to the theater on a better screen and setup and make a day of it. HBO Max even if you didn't have HBO the most you can spend is $14.99. Less than half the price of JC. You can't beat "free"
