  1. I think the problem isn’t that they’re adapted too much for the comics, there’s more or less about the same stuff in the previous phases (if anything the comics have had more consequences, arguably more interesting relationships and a lived-in world than not just the prior phase but a decent handful of Phase 1-3). Tbh Phase 4 as a whole was about as consistent as past phases, the problem was not enough deviated and we got 15+ projects in the span of two years rather than 5 which only worsen the issues. If anything I’d like more dissection and examination of themes and solid storytelling. Most of the writers this phase have not written a script, and while it’s not the end all be all of talent, I’d rather have a writer who has made “bad films” than a green writer that’s cheaper.
  2. Quantumania’s $100m OW with negative reviews and mediocre WOM is pretty impressive and still good. It’s the international numbers and perhaps the legs that should be of concern.
  3. I’m thinking the schedule will look like this: 10/20 - 2une 11/3 - The Marvels and Trolls Band Together 11/10 - Trolls could also go here if Marvels is too tough 11/17 - Hunger Games 11/24 - Wish All we need is a male skewing movie for November and an adult movie or two that could do 50-70m and we got ourselves the strongest November in years.
  4. Anyways am cautiously excited for Marvels. I loved Kamala in Ms. Marvel and I do like DeCosta’s work (even if Candyman was mediocre). It also helps DeCosta has screenwriting experience and if it’s a fun standalone I think it’s possible for 300m+. I was assuming a quasi worst case scenario for Marvels is it follows QM, Strange and Thor but I do think it hit a bit of a zeitgeist too like Wakanda and BP. Honestly Imma up it to 115/280. At Black Widow reception, I’m thinking 300+. If really great 350m. I think there’s room for a Hunger Games breakout. The YA craze was big when I was an early teen and nostalgia being the best drug, I think there’s potential. We’ve yet to have a demographic breakout since the pandemic in movies for younger women and the teen drama, angst, and romance could be big drivers, especially because we haven’t had much of those. I could see a mini Maverick of sorts.
  5. With Nostalgia being the ultimate drug, I still think it’s possible Hunger Games breaks out and does 350m+. I just want to gouge trailer reactions before making a decision: Me thinks: Dune - 65/175 Marvels - 95/250 Hunger Games - 115/270
  6. Chloe Zhao and Taiki Waititi are Oscar winners, Eternals and Thor won’t be divisive Sam Raimi and Waldron made some all timers. Quantumania introduces the big bad, it won’t have bad reviews. Dude, you really can’t handle mild criticism. Anyways November move is good. Less competition and more time for promotion. Thinking it’ll fall but I’m more confident in 300m plus now than I was months prior.
  7. In fairness most are in 3D, not necessarily the larger screens.
  8. Dude literally said Black Panther wasn’t one of them. A B+ is good CinemaScore but meaning varies depending on film. This is something we pick up on for following box office in general. For family films and tentpoles, it showed while it was liked, it was overall is a middling score for both genre as the GA tends to be more positive to them anyways and had problems. Out of curiosity, box office wise what are you predicting for Phase 5?
  9. The problem in my honest opinion is if it came under Ant Man 1 (515m WW) with China. A gross in between isn’t good as they spent 200m+ on it (an increase for Ant Man movies) but not necessarily endtimes (reception is the bigger fish to fry).
  10. It’s not so much the multiverse is difficult to understand but more so it’s not really being done interestingly enough except to bring back past characters. Into The Spider-Verse and Everything Everywhere All At Once had great WOM and legs but did inventive things with it.
  11. TBH if The Flash breaks out and is well received, I think Blue Beetle could do 200m domestic and surprise as it’s be the start of a new DCU.
  12. Honestly set up Masters of Evil and mutants that saga. Would be interesting in a post Blip world and would bring up some interesting themes about the roles these heroes have.
  13. “There is talk of longer theatrical windows for Elemental (June 16) and Disney Animation’s Wish (Nov. 22) in hopes of luring families back to theaters.” Cool. Now get Elemental the fuck out of June so it doesn’t die, thank you. https://www.hollywoodreporter.com/movies/movie-news/marvel-star-wars-tv-shows-movies-slowdown-1235326681/
  14. I think walkups should be solid enough. Despite mediocre reviews, there hasn’t been a tentpole in a minute. I do wonder if the dip yesterday could’ve been because of Valentines Day like @M37 suggested.
  15. Remake of 1, got to make that nostalgia $$$. They ain’t even waiting the twenty years to fester. We’re totally getting live action Shrek and Despicable Me next too. Think live action Tangled and Pixar this decade.
  16. Yes I did read that article, good on them and I hope quality improves and better to fix the problem now than later, however what was being suggested was a movie hiatus apart from shows was suggested right after Endgame, not in the middle of the phase. I feel you’re being obtuse because some people are a bit down on the MCU.
