  1. I hope the marketing becomes a little more kids appealing. It does make sense since mostly young adults and (too cool for Disney princesses) teenagers would be the ones checking out trailers 5 months before release. But it still needs the kids to go "I wanna see Frozen mom/dad" I'm sold either way.
  2. This was bad but not as awful as I expected. I really liked the way they killed Raven in the most uneventful way someone could've imagined. Other than that it's just another wasted opportunity for a great X-Men movie, but they don't seem to care about the characters anyway.
  3. Was going to watch Aladdin for the third time and it was sold out (on its fucking 3rd weekend!!!) So we had to buy tickets for DP. Fuck Disney tbh.
  4. Alita doesn't look so bad now after Dumbo, Shazam, Pikachu, Godzilla and X-Men. HTTYD3 went from good to great, I'd say. It's been a brutal year for everything except MCU and Aladdin so far.
  5. But... They do https://www.wsj.com/articles/netflix-battles-rivals-for-its-most-watched-shows-friends-and-the-office-11556120136
  6. Grinch did well and was ok. SLOP1 was an awful movie but it did great so it makes sense the second one is doing as bad. Now, Sing was BvS/G14 levels of bad and I wanted to like it so much so I hope the next one crashes and burns. Minions/DM franchise will be ok. I don't think people here realize how nuts kids and parents go for them. I dont think even Minions had "bad reception" for its target audience. They'll be ok if they do some (small) course-correcting
  7. I wonder if this can make it to the yearly Top10 WW. It will likely be below 6 (!!!!) Disney releases, so it will need to end up above one of: Far From Home (unlikely), Hobbs and Shaw (who knows), It Chapter 2 (likely, I dont see it increasing) or Jumanji (unlikely). Highly doubt Joker, Ad Astra or Spies in Disguise break out that much.
  8. I mean, from a financial perspective this is a no-brainer. Introducing your classics to a new generation while milking the generations that already love your movies. Especially considering that their worst performing are Dumbo and Pete's Dragon, and they barely lost money (if they even did, I'd think PD broke even, and Dumbo will be really close) People saying "why is this a movie?" have no idea how the industry works.
  9. I think G14 has the 2nd worst reception for a blockbuster this decade. BvS reception while toxic got way more exposure because both the public and the media teamed up to shit on DC. While critics were ok with G14. I hated it too but I was willing to give this a chance after great trailers. I'm really on the fence right now waiting for reactions to see if this is similar to Venom when it might not be good but you can enjoy it if you don't look too deep.
  10. What? This doesn't feel as hyped as I2, I know Toy Story is Pixar's crown jewel but WHAT? If there's over I2/200m talk, I'd guess 135-150m OW/500m DOM is realistic (even pessimistic) and honestly that's mind blowing. Disney always wins I guess. Maleficent will be their yearly sacrifice (since Dumbo underperformed but I dont think it's even that far away from breakeven and I dont see any Fox release doing that bad, maybe Dark Phoenix?)
  11. Ok, this was... great? I'm totally shocked (and upset at how Disney butchered the marketing) Maybe it isn't as good as it could've been (aka like the animated one) but honestly Naomi just carries the whole movie, I see some people dislike her song but when I saw I totally bought it. Mena, Will and the handmaid were really charismatic too. I think the cast is what made the movie (and if they had nailed Jafar I'm sure everyone would be pleased) On the other hand, the green screen was horrible (specially in "A Whole New World"). Maybe it's me but lately every major movie or TV show has serious problems with that.
  12. I think it's pretty amazing how 3/5 of the DOM Top5 is MCU. And none of them are The Avengers, I remember people talking about how SH movies in general would never reach those heights again (especially in the BvS and CW times)
  13. To be fair, that first hour is really awful. (Same with ROTJ's first hour) But (in my case) seeing that after how much film has evolved takes 95% of its charm away. I understand why it was so mindblowing back then. ESB somehow managed to still be THAT movie, though.
  14. Do we know if any sequel has ever been #1? Hard to imagine that would be possible in a pre-Jaws world.
  15. I agree with this too. They were criticized for these things and they slowly fixed it until it wasn't a problem anymore. There are still some people who say "BUT THE WINTER SOLDIER AND RAGNAROK ARE THE SAME MOVIEEE11!!", though.
  16. I think it's pretty overlooked that it also passed Walt Disney Co's The Force Awakens and Walt Disney Co's Infinity War this weekend.
  17. Why? You can't apply MCU's goodwill across their whole universe boosting their lower tier projects, to a standalone DC film. We haven't even seen Sony or Fox succeed with unknown Marvel properties either. If anything, they have managed to turn huge IPs into financial failures So it isn't a "CBM" phenomenon (or even Marvel's), it's a MCU phenomenon.
  18. Is EG performing well according to the post-OW expectations? I know it's doing far better than people expected before release, but it seems like it's holding really close to Detective Conan, so I would guess it's holding really good?
  19. In Colombia, as of May 1st, Endgame had 3.07m admissions (over 500k above the industry estimates) beating IW previous first week record of 2.17m admissions. It also beats lifetime total (Adm, LC & $) of Avatar. It was also reported that May 1st was the biggest day in Colombia, beating April 27th record (so EG's biggest day might have been that day, or at least really close to Saturday)
