well, "best movie of the year buzz" happens all the time (and no, they aren't even close in most cases) and the key to 200M isn't social media but GA. Also, both social media and GA will divide attention between this, Aquaman, MPR, Bumblebee but Xmas is lucrative for movies so they can coexist and reach milestones. @Dingdong whether it looks appealing or unappealing is individual. many fans love the look of Spiderverse animation.

I agree with this. the whole point is being a star (and all actors are called stars even though 98% can't open a door let alone a movie that isn't a franchise and many times even a franchise) is to put butts in seats no matter what. that's why actor's pay is dis-proportionally bigger than his stunt double's and other members of the team whose job is to make the actor look and sound good, and that's why actors are the face of the movie and identified with it even though the real boss is the director (and in rare cases, directors becomes a star such as Spielberg, Lucas, Nolan, Cameron, few more). So when a movie hits, actor takes all the credit for team work so it's only fair that when the movie flops actor is blamed for the team work. Foy picked wrong movies and now it looks like they flopped because of her not that she picked movies that big names would have hard time selling let alone a Netflix starlet that many never heard of. She knew the risk.

Instant Family is the quiet story of the season. It keeps increasing whereas other movies had both increases and decreases since Monday.

That's strange cause main complaint seems to be that it isn't a heist movie. people who saw it expected an action packed heist but apparently the movie isn't interested in heist. And it's slow, all over the place and silly. I'm just posting the breakdown of negative opinions. It isn't an actual heist movie.

Not to mention that Oscar label didn't hurt ASIB one bit and many normies want Oscar for Rami Malek after seeing BR. Widows simply isn't an appealing movie to GA and festival crowd has very different taste. Same goes for Green Book. Oscar or no Oscar, neither movie looks like a must-see. Viola, Viggo, Ali are no stars/boxoffice draws. I get that critics and festival crowd, whose taste lines up with critical since attendants are basically Awards Watch/Gold Derby/Other Oscar Bloggers, tried to make those actors into draws by hyping their movies. But they are not average Joe and Jane Multiplex whose priorities are very different, and who simply didn't take the bait.

Solo's final nail in the coffin will be when Lord&Miller produced Into the Spiderverse makes more than Solo.

Instant Family is slaying. Also BR increased while other holdovers decreased.

This. people cry over unappealing movies flopping left and right just because they were aiming at the awards. That doesn't make them automatically appealing or even good. And ASIB is an example of a movie that's stronger awards contender than most recent flops plus has tremendous appeal. That it was buzzed about as the Oscar frontrunner didn't turn audience away. It also didn't have to run a bait and switch marketing to get butts in seats.

they need to drop the budget. instead of 50000000 magical effects, focus on 1 or 2 but make them pop. Like Venom. Cut the number of characters and more than anything cut the number of PoV. FB2 is bogged down by desire to give everyone a PoV and character arc. Improve the main leads or kill some and get replacements. Sack JKR.

FB2 blew it. They had a chance to improve on meh characters thanks to goodwill from FB but no. They had to add 3000 new characters that didn't add up to the whole all that much, make a movie that's one big set up for the future movies rather than an actual movie, and have the most convoluted story since POTC:AWE (which I love due to creativity, Zimmer's magnificent score and compelling characters but have to admit story was convoluted af with 1000 sub plots). SO I don't feel sorry either. They wasted 200M.

this gonna be lucky to make 1/2 of Venom's BO dom and don't expect even 1/4 of Venom OS. Leto isn't likable like Hardy and Morbius isn't as iconic as Venom. I never heard of him til today.

I was. The movie has, like, 17% critical approval so 56% Audience approval looks really good in comparison.
