I will be the first to admit that the love for Venom is weird to me, plot is a bit crap and it's not something awesome by any means BUT it's very fun to watch. Like turn your brain off, laugh a bit and just enjoyable. Similar to Aquaman. I mean what the hell I'm excited for the sequel and I wasn't even excited for the first one!

Weekend Thread: Dear Evan Hansen $800K THU Previews
cdsacken replied to Gavin Feng's topic in Numbers and Data
So much intense hate for Ben Platt. Guess I'm an asshole, I love his music. I really wanted to see a filmed theatrical production like Hamilton. It's like Rent, musical is amazing, movie is mediocre although I do like parts. Sad it wasn't up to snuff but not surprised. -
The Box Office Buzz and Tracking Thread: Electric Boogaloo

Oh my God it's finally happening I'm going to my first movie in 2021. Dear Evan Hansen at Grand Cinema. Vaccines required and masks required. Finally a place my wife will tell tolerate. What's weird is I was like a massive sports junkie through 25 plus but I'm pretty sure I like Broadway even more now. So jacked! -
Give me 21.25 to 22.75 for the weekend.

The way he posted it was terrible but for people that genuinely are born with those urges I can't even fathom how awful that must be. I would want to kill myself. Hurting my own child on accident makes me incredibly upset, if I didn't have my own control over my thoughts... sweet Christmas that would suck.

The Box Office Buzz and Tracking Thread: Electric Boogaloo

I came to this forum before I even cared about the box office. This thread in particular. It's so soothing 😂 -
Gimme 45.7% drop for week 3 because why not?

China Box Office Thread | Oppenheimer-August 30
cdsacken replied to A Marvel Fanboy's topic in China At The Box Office
China is just proving they really don't care about the box office and there's nothing we can do to make them care about it. China is tightening its rein hardcore lately and I'm not sure that's going to dissipate anytime soon. I would like it to but we shall see. -
You can use tiny films and say it's 90% back. Back means people hundreds of thousands of people crammed together in every state and going back again. That was end game. (I've seen zero movies more than twice in theaters except end game at 5 times). Max capacity is a variable that is hard to account for
-
People are extrapolating capacity at max levels when we have seen nothing like that all year. It's like the 5 million death scenarios for USA last year and the 100k death scenarios. Both were idiotic and stupid. We have way more data now so Charlie may be right or he may not. I'm excited to see either way
-
I think some people have a different opinion on where capacity really is. Until we actually see the box office stretched to the limit during a pandemic I'm going to be incredibly pessimistic. Mind you I don't think 400 million domestic 1.2 billion in a pandemic is that pessimistic but it is to others. Nearly 40% of the country is anti-vax until that changes I think it scares a lot of the vaccinated as well.
-
I'm not an out at 500 but that's my absolute peak (like 500 to 525). That's if everything is perfect vaccination rates go up 15% or something like that and nearly every kid gets vaccinated. The rest of the movie suck in Christmas, it has amazing legs, word of mouth is incredible and we see a ridiculously high RT score. Then again I totally thought end game before it came out would do max like 2.2-2.3B WW so it's not like I've haven't been wrong before.
-
That seems insane to me. I don't think we will see anywhere near the number of repeat visits that we have in the past due to the pandemic. I think sustained viewing is going to plummet and I think that will impact more than people realize. I'm happy to be wrong but for me 500M is the absolute domestic peak given the current pandemic. Hell I want to be wrong 700 million domestic would be amazing straight up black panther numbers.
