  1. I would imagine they care more about what film critics, experts, fans as well as people who relate to the story think about the movie than the general audience. They have the general audience's money, they don't need anything else from them.
  2. Nah this will go down, especially after it wins Best Picture. I remember Birdman being around an 8.5 and then after it won Best Picture all of a sudden everyone said how it was overrated and it went below an 8. It's also a film that will play out far better in cinemas than at home because of the visuals so people watching it for the first time on a TV/laptop screen wont be as impressed and will rate it accordingly.
  3. No one in this thread has said that everyone needs to like Moonlight because it's about gay people. Not sure where people are getting that from.
  4. The ignorance is real. Newsflash: gay, black people exist and perhaps would like to see a movie reflecting their life for once. Why does that have to be part of a liberal 'agenda'? There was nothing preachy about Moonlight. Nothing. And did you miss the part where he stares at the door in the diner deciding whether to run back to his life of drug dealing and then decides to stay anyway? Not sure if you need everything spelt out for you but that makes it pretty obvious that his drug dealing will stop. As for the handjob, not sure how you cope seeing movies in general as most have sex scenes that are far more intense than Moonlight's. Again, sex is a part of life which is why it's reflected in films about character's lives. Again, I don't care if you dislike the movie. That's your right. But your reasoning is completely nonsensical beyond the 'slow pace' complaint.
  5. This is an awful post. Zero star? So you saw absolutely nothing commendable in any of the performances, direction, writing, score, cinematography or editing? Not one thing? I find that impossible. There are plenty of movies about gay people, about black people growing up poor, about drug addictions that don't get even one hundredth of the acclaim that Moonlight has gotten. None of that has anything to do with it and you will see that if you bothered to read the reviews from the critics on why they liked it. They love it because it's an incredibly well made and well put together movie. No character development is also factually untrue. Juan goes from being a drug dealer with few cares in the world to second guessing his career choice after getting to know Chiron and feeling empathy for the situation with his mother. Paula goes from being completely addicted to drugs and thinking about nothing else to putting herself through rehabilitation treatment. Kevin goes from caring what people think about his masculinity and sexuality to the point that he is abusive to someone that he loves to learning to be true to himself without having to consider whether he is coming across as macho, tough or straight. Chiron initially regresses and hides his sensitive personality by buffing up and getting involved with drugs himself and then at the end allows Kevin to teach him that it's okay to be true to himself once more and accept affection, emotion and love. I also thought Moonlight had a fair few funny lines considering the subject matter. It's whatever if it's not your kind of movie, or even if you think it's overrated. But calling it awful, deplorable and trash is beyond ridiculous.
  6. I do think people would be more inclined to go and see Frozen during the Winter and Moana during the Summer for the same reason that people like to watch Christmas movies only in December or why the 'song of the Summer' is always an upbeat, Summery sounding pop song and people like Adele release in the Winter. People like consuming entertainment that is similar to the environment they're currently in. It's clearly not the only deciding factor in whether a movie does well or not, but I do think it has a certain level of influence. Moana would not have done Frozen numbers whenever it was released though.
  7. Yeah the promotion for Moana is awful. I've seen no posters, other than the one in the cinema. I've seen one TV appearance from Nicole and heard one feature on the radio. Apart from that, zilch. Sully is advertised everywhere.
