  1. I have nothing against indie films whatsoever, but God I love this! Another Hollywood realist. Respect.
  2. The Numbers and BOP both report that this will release in roughly 2,500 theatres as the main headliner of the weekend (The Gentlemen is getting approx. 2,000 theatres). As I mentioned one post above it looks like those two are the only wide debuts for the weekend.
  3. Yeah, that's pretty much been my experience too. I know I keep on saying the same thing, but I'm just so thrilled with the reactions to this movie. Seems universally positive. January may have started with some absolute duds, but it looks like we're going to get some gems too.
  4. Do yourself a favour and don't give the media so much credit. That kind of crap is hack material.
  5. Funny you say that. I thought Renner's Hansel and Gretel was beyond stupid. This movie might be bad too but I just dig the aesthetic and tone more.
  6. You're right that nothing is really standing out but it's still probably going to be the no-brainer choice: Birds of Prey.
  7. @dudalb brings up a good point though. This movie will take place after Endgame, aka a point in time when there are no infinity stones. The eye of Agamotto is pretty much useless now.
  8. Hmm, okay. I guess it's just me then. I'm surrounded by people who hardly care about movies (it's usually me taking my friends, girlfriend, parent etc.).
  9. That's the thing, it would be a waste. Personally I think it looks kinda good. I wish we knew why some of these studios get cold feet, especially seemingly at the last minute.
  10. Interesting. I'd say it would be the other way around for me. I love, LOVE Christopher Nolan but Dunkirk didn't do much for me. It wasn't poor by any means, but if I had to choose one to see in cinemas it would definitely be 1917.
  11. Goofy is one thing. Truly incompetent is another, or at least incompetent characters without an arc that shows the audience how useful they truly are.
  12. That's fair. I know i'm beginning to have a bit of a rep around here but I do genuinely like that we're making strides in terms of how actresses and female characters are presented in film. I just don't think there's a need to simply flip the situation around. You're seeing with the race issue too. I'm not necessarily crying wolf here, but white people are taking a beating lately in pop culture. They're everyone's punching bag. The point is to truly move forward, not simply turn the tables. We can't change the past.
  13. I know, hey? It's like, okay it's a bust. Just release it and be done with it. Don't hold it back and analyze. However, maybe this was always meant to release limited first. The box office sites do that a lot, they list certain movies as going wide when they end up releasing limited first. Sometimes the roll-out for a film is announced in a press release, usually for more prestigious projects like when 1917 and Just Mercy were announced to open limited at Christmas and go wide on January 10, but often times nobody knows. You can only take your best guess. In this case, Roadside Attractions has released smaller movies like this wide right off the bat before (Forever My Girl and I Can Only Imagine, both in 2018) so I can see why BOM or The Numbers would have expected this to be a wide release for the studio. Now if it doesn't release at all, well fuck.
  14. Oh man, this is looking worse than even we all anticipated! I feel so awkward seeing RDJ's social media posts about it lol.
  15. Yeah, this is kind of my thought too. This movie is a perfect example of when people go "Ugh, they're making ANOTHER one of those? Whyyyy?". If the directors pull this off - which it looks like they DID - then clearly they have a great touch and should go places after this.
  16. Theatrical poster: Looks like this will only have The Gentlemen as competition. Run definitely won't be debuting because we've gotten zero news on it, and The Last Full Measure is now releasing limited (or not at all on the 24th if The Numbers is to be believed).
  17. Releasing limited now, according to BOM. The Numbers doesn't have it on their schedule at all. https://www.boxofficemojo.com/calendar/2020-01-01/
  18. Yeah this seems primed for a mini-breakout. However it all depends if those surprisingly positive reviews translate to the audience. Sometimes the audience doesn't give a crap about a movie, regardless of reviews. Kind of like a Paddington situation.
  19. Success is subjective. Of course we'd all like to see her in more projects but I'm willing to bet she is more than happy with her life. For most mothers, you can't get more successful than being a parent.
  20. Par for the course with Paramount lol, though I have a feeling Sonic might do okay.
  21. All I know is I want to see some films start challenging for around $45M plus. The wide expansion for American Sniper is a total outlier with its $89.27M wide opening. Otherwise, there is a lump of films stuck at the $40M-$42M area and nothing seems to be able to clamour over that.
  22. For this weekend, sure. We'll take this one in the teeth.
  23. Yep. Canada in general might bring the box office down a decent chunk. The whole country is experiencing various degrees of this arctic front.
