The cinematography and incredible sense of motion from the cockpit POV is certified to make this the theatrical event of the summer. Look at the technical efficiency displayed here, and then look at the trailer for the new Fast & Furious film. Sure, they're operating on somewhat different levels of entertainment, but they basically exist in the same genre. It's night and day in terms of visual presentation.
I know exactly what you mean. The F9 trailer just looked so...cheap. The stuff in the Fast movies is silly as it is, but if you do quality work on the visuals and make it LOOK good, you can achieve that suspension of disbelief from the audience.

Jason Blum has been talking about the failure of this movie recently, he didn’t really go into specifics but he said he learned a lot about what not to do from its failure.
I wonder what, specifically, he's referring to.
I'm honestly not surprised that this and BoP failed. They went way too far with the whole "Men are evil" shtick.

DC is indeed getting revved up but they obviously can't turn their less known characters into A listers unlike Marvel. I know that HQ was more known than GOTG but she was also most know as Joker's girlfriend so no Joker but lots of F list characters didn't excite audience outside of core fandom. So they still have a long way to go but at least their last few movies (Aquaman, Shazam, Joker, BoP) didn't get rotten reviews and Aquaman and Joker were 1 billion-grossing megahits. They are on the right track now they need patience and continue with quality products.
Oh I agree. I just wanted to add a little context for why BoP's box office is a real talking point right now.

Are there any reports or rumblings out there that are actually leading to this speculation of tentpole films being moved or are people just suggesting it could happen?
-
Maybe this is just the 10 or 11 year old me that saw The Mummy '99 for the first time talking, but one of the things I think is great about that movie is it was actually a little scary. Again, maybe the kid me talking, but it wasn't solely an adventure film. There was a creepy vibe to it.
The sequels? That's another story.

Yeah, I'd say it's fair to continue discussing BoP's box office. It comes as a legitimate surprise, especially amid the "DC is just getting revved up|" narrative (a narrative that was, and is still, true by the way).

It’s a great series, especially the first two books (which are literally a part 1 & part 2, with part 1 ending on a cliffhanger. So when you get them, make sure you have part 2 readily available when you get close to the end of the first book).Have you read Drood?

Thoroughly enjoyed this! The comments about how tense and how surprisingly scary it is were spot on. I felt the same way. Very well done by all involved!

Going to see this tomorrow afternoon. @DAJK its disappointing what you said about the ending though. Nothing is worse than an underwhelming ending, especially in a horror/thriller.

It would suck if the box office was low for this but in a way it's all the better for me because I'm looking forward to it and going to see a an animated film is always a nuisance for me because of all the kids. If parents are avoiding taking their kids to the theatre, great for me!
But again, bad for the box office.

Kinda, sorta related to this movie....
For anyone who has seen The Morning Show, how is Janina Gavankar in it? I confess that the only thing I know her well from is Star Wars Battlefront II haha. I thought she did a great job though. I like her. Hopefully she's a standout in this movie.

So this is going wide on March 6. Not surprising, as it had a really solid limited debut. Has anyone seen it?

Am I the only one who loses track of who's who and who's on what side when I watch these trailers?

Wow! If early tracking is starting at $60M that's an incredible sign! Hopefully it doesn't pull a Birds of Prey or something and decrease from tracking.

Chris Pratt has also apparently been spotted around. He posted a video on Instagram while on the highway between Kamloops (where they're also filming) and Merritt. To be honest it was a bit of a wake up call that maybe I take where I live for granted a bit. That drive is indeed pretty scenic and beautiful.
-
This is filming right now in Merritt, BC, where I'm currently living. They've got a huge set going on sort of on the outskirts at one of the big mills which has been shut down for awhile now. They're also doing a bit of filming in and around the Coldwater hotel right in town. Kind of funny seeing these big trucks and trailers trying to get around on our small town streets haha

Weird date. Usually nothing releases in late December like that. Have to think it's because usually it would have dropped on January 8 but for the two horror films already occupying that date (The Devil's Light, Untitled Blumhouse).
Still, very odd choice.

Great trailer! I'm in.

As usual, not too much happened on NHL trade deadline day.
@75Live How are you liking your Flyers going into the home stretch of the season and the playoffs?
-
Hate to beat a dead horse here but, geez, Birds of Prey. That film missed the mark completely.

Are most people still of the mind this will have the biggest opening of 2020? Seems like the default choice, honestly. We'll see how much hype there is as we approach The Eternals.

Okay thanks. That's what I thought. Personally, I think for better or worse studios will just release movies where they're slated and hope for the best. I'm not saying it's not a real and scary thing, but I think the coronvirus hysteria will die down soon. More people every year die from the common flu worldwide, but it's not reported. Because it's the flu. It's like, whatever. Now there's a new kind of virus that nobody has heard of and everyone is panicking.
Again, not saying that it's something to just shrug off. I just think the sensationalist media is getting everyone a little too worked up.
