Under performed? You must be joking. Since when is $190m+ opening weekend ever been considered under performing? The $200m+ are all predictions based on presales. Not a big deal not breaking the record because there is always next time. Only the SW fanboys or FF haters are happy this didnt break the record.
Not sure what people are expecting out of this movie. It is popular among Anime fans and that's about it. I would be surprised if this breaks out. Casting Scarlett Johansson was a good business choice since she is more popular than any Asian actresses. Only time when people want to watch films with Asians leading involves martial arts and that's about it. Hollywood never stays faithful to original source material so there will always be complaints. My only complaint of this movie is that it's not rated R.
Jackie Chan is a big bo draw in mainland China. No amount of fudging will increase WOM of his movies. People just want to see it because it is a Jackie Chan movie. If WOM is really good, we can expect double or even triple the bo performance. We just cant discredit the name. Same goes for Stephen Chow, who is even a bigger draw. If he stars in new film, we can easily expect 2B even if the movie suck a$$.
