  1. I don’t agree. Migration and The Bad Guys just proved that original animation can still make $$$. Just make good ones that families want to see.
  2. I hope none of them underperforms and both end up doing amazing for the sake of theaters. Idk why people root for movies to fail? Sequels are always going to be around. The only way for sequels to go extinct is if every movie flops which means the industry dies.
  3. Let’s be honest with ourselves here. Audiences liked all of the LoTR movies more than the first Dune easily. This is not controversial and I really enjoyed the first Dune.
  4. $70M is pretty great for this. Pretty big jump from the first one. People forget that a lot of people were bored by the first Dune movie. General audiences aren’t really into hardcore Sci-fi. This was never going to be a 4 quadrant movie. $200M DOM and $600M WW are great goals.
  5. Domestic is such a disaster that it makes overseas number look good. Truth is both numbers are varying degrees of disaster for a $200M movie.
  6. Poor Color Purple. Taraji nuked the movie. It dropped like a rock when she came out crying for more pay and feeling badly treated. Like she couldn’t wait to talk about that after the box office and awards season run?
  7. Who the hell is claiming John David Washington isn’t a good actor. I’ve literally never heard someone criticize him. Maybe people are comparing him to his father which isn’t fair at all considering Denzel is one of the best ever.
  8. That’s ridiculous I’d say the reverse is more true. Timothee proved himself with Call Me by Your Name and his early theater work. He hasn’t been on that level since except for maybe Beautiful Boy where he was pretty great. He got in for his talents but has been given roles still from the hype after CMBYN. This isn’t a matter of race Hollywood has changed so much from the last couple of years. There hasn’t been a major Hollywood film where a POC isn’t playing at least a major supporting role. We should recognize and celebrate that and stop the divisive racial complaining people love to continue to do. You aren’t a better or moral person for only wanting perfection and putting down people for not living up to your misguided standards.
  9. He’s still riding off the coattails of Call Me by Your Name. He was amazing in that but meh since then.
  10. You’re forgetting Five Nights at Freddie’s. More than 10x its budget.
  11. An unmitigated f-cking disaster. Will probably lose as much $$$ as Strange World because Disney actually spent a good penny on marketing with this.
  12. I’m still dumbfounded that Wish cost $200M to make. Did most of the budget go to crack for the crew?
  13. Just saw the movie and yeah it’s not good. This would’ve been released straight to video 20 years ago… My nieces enjoyed the movie and kids in the theater as well so there’s that. But yeah Disney needs to changed their creative teams and put in stricter quality controls because all their releases this year except Guardians 3 have been lacking. They can’t keep putting out crap like this and expect audiences to trust them. Also this movie did not feel or look like a $200 million movie. Where did all that $$$ go cause from what I saw on screen I would’ve guessed like a $100 million budget at most and even then I’d say Disney got ripped off.
  14. My nieces are very excited for this movie. I do think this has a shot at doing respectable numbers. 78% Audience Score on RT ouch.
  15. The way they make their movies is unsustainable and getting dragged into politics has compounded their issues. They are seen as a divisive studio for right and wrong reasons. Kinda sad that their 100th year might be their worst. All of their movie branches are faltering. Disney Animation clearly a mess, Star Wars is completely polarized, MCU quality is on the decline and becoming more polarized. I think Pixar funny enough has the best shot at making a comeback than the other divisions. Disney hurt that Pixar by putting it out there films on Disney+ and making a Lightyear movie no asked for. I can’t believe they still haven’t gotten rid of Kathleen Kennedy. Maybe she really does have dirt on everyone in Hollywood?
  16. One has a budget of $220 million probably more and is in the biggest film franchise of all time by far! The other has a $100 million budget in a dormant franchise in a genre that’s been on life support for years now.
  17. All that matter is if families like it. I saw on Wikipedia that the budget for this thing is $200M? Is that actually real because this movie looks cheap. I would’ve thought around $50 million budget from the trailers.
  18. No it’s The Marvels. It’s Captain Marvel and 2 unknowns she shares a movie with.
