But that's the "mexican dubbed" version, which is the same being released in Spain a week ago.
You know that "mexican" isn't a language right? It's spanish with latin accent. I think he meant a spanish speaking version not exactly a Spain accent version.

Great for Coco!
It must be a cultural thing for Hispanic movies to have better holds on Sundays.
Perhaps, there are many working on Saturdays or perhaps they go after church. I think they are probably the most religious group of Americans?
Latin audiences increase on day-to-day for weekends. Fri can be half as big as Sun, except when comes to front-loaded franchises, with those ones, the numbers usually stays flat.
It's really not much about church, just Sunday is the better day to go out because it's mostly a 'family thing', so everyone is free and is a good way to start the week.

Besides TLJ, which other movie could break into it? Jumanji?
I don't think the spot for TLJ is 100% sure. It certainly has way more and stronger competition than TFA, it opens along with Wonder, which comes with good buzz and wouldn't surprise me if can pull some 'Gifted' numbers. Then faces Jumanji, from which i don't expect massive numbers but with families in home they'll definitely rather see it or Ferdinand instead of TLJ just because most people aren't connected with SW (plus, marketing is pretty weak compared to TFA), and finally The Greatest Showman that has the 'Hugh Jackman' factor, tho being a musical may hurt it.

DECEMBER 01-03 WEEKEND. DADDY'S HOME 2 TOPS THE WEEKEND, JUSTICE LEAGUE GETS A SOFTER DROP AND COCO IS MAKING BIGGER ITS RECORD.
Daddy's Home 2
- Debuted in over 2,100 screens. Already did what first DH did after 10 days.
- Next weekend goes against A Bad Mom's Christmas, so $180M are a chance but not a lock
Justice League
- Good recover from last weekend's horrible drop. $455M-$465M by the time TLJ steals most of screens, currently plays at 1,600.
Coco
- $1.1B are a shot depending on the push it has on holidays. Winter break for schools starts between Dec 15 and Dec 21, so Disney have to keep a good number of screens 'til then.
Loving Vincent
- Great WOM is helping it a lot despite its limited run
Big Bang Made
- With tickets even twice as expensive as a tradiotional ticket is showing the power of the K-Pop band fanbase.

I think it's time to say that is kinda disappointing that any CBM this year did over $500M, at least two of them had potential for it and finished (one of them eventually will do it) so close: Homecoming and Justice League.
However, i can't talk about fatigue since Logan became highest grossing 'rated-C' movie of all-time and Wonder Woman had legs better than average.
Next year will be better since there's a lot to offer.
- Infinity War obviously will do gangbusters numbers, hype doesn't slow down with Avengers.
- Black Panther can offer something different and do numbers a la Wonder Woman, just like in everywhere else
- Ant-Man and the Wasp is going to do just fine, can't say much since is in a very crowded summer.
- Venom. If this anywhere as attractive as Deadpool or Logan will do similar numbers depending its rating (B-15 like Pool or C like Logan). People is hungry for more adult CBM.
- Aquaman. Well, this doesn't have much competition and Mary Poppins is less popular than a Star Wars, so if it's good can pull more than decent numbers.
Can't say much about the FOX films, two of them have zero marketing and the other faces two Disney monsters that are long-waited movies.

Meanwhile in social media; Infinity War trailer is just 10k reactions from 500k on the Marvel FB page.
Incredibles 2 is 50k from 1M on the Walt Disney FB page! 90% from those reactions are 'i like it' or 'i love it'

With those Drops, wouldn't be surprised if Coco has a bigger weekend than JL next week and is on theatres after Christmas. The only competition I can see is Jumanji and Ferdinand on 21 Dec.
I hope Disney doesn't steal all the screens for TLJ, for some reason they like to release them in more screens than Marvel's or Pixar's movies, don't get why don't understand that Star Wars isn't a phenomenon here.
It would be better if they push Coco as the ultimate option for holidays.

Numbers as per Deadline:
- Justice League. Recovers with $37.27M (-47.41% LW) for a $412.51M total. $500M are dead and $480M look hard as TLJ, Jumanji, Ferdinand and Greatest Showman are coming.
- Coco. $27.4M (-33.5% LW) for $1,062.74M. $1.1B still on game.
- Daddy's Home 2. $55.1M debut, on par with first DH. $89.5M total including 4 days of previews in the last two weeks.

Netherlands and Scandinavia are likely not the markets to respond to a super-Catholic movie. But it should do excellent business in Spain, Portugal, France, Italy, Germany, Ireland, Poland, etc.
China isn't a Catholic country but they're responding well. I mean, i know Dia de Muertos involves some of Catholicism, but that day is celebrated in Mexico even by non-religious people, because the point of it isn't religious but union of the family and celebrate the spirit of our passed ones. The exact same point of the movie.
I just don't get the statements of Coco "being a Catholic movie"

But Coco got released way before in Mexico than in north america ...and i didn't read a news about the controversy with the short, only when it got released in north america. All were news about the huge box office numbers Coco was making in Mexico.
There are, but all of them from mexican media. Whether it was pulled due to complaints or because it was scheduled, that decision helped a lot, since holiday for Dia de los Muertos was happening and that second weekend had the tremendous jump (and best second weekend ever).
I thought would be different in the US, since Frozen is huge there, meanwhile in Mexico is just "meh", away from the Pixar/Illumination league.

Just because it was scheduled to be shown for a week, or due to complains they decided to remove it? Or it's not really clear?
Isn't clear, the chains said it was because Disney only ordered it for the first week of Coco's release, but complains were that much that everyone thought it was cause of it.

Can this top The Avengers or even Coco in local currency?
Too early to know, hype is huge but we still have no trace about competition; Solo won't hurt at all (i'll be surprised if it cross $200M) but there's still place for a local film, plus, Deadpool 2 and Incredibles 2 will kill its late legs and also WOM is important since team-ups are heavily front-loaded

Cinépolis reports PS for TLJ over TFA and RO at the same point before release (12 days before), especially for midnight screenings in IMAX and 2D subtitled versions. PS are strong in south, center and west zones of Mexico City, behind of them are Monterrey, Tijuana, Puebla and Guadalajara.
http://www.eluniversal.com.mx/espectaculos/cine/imparable-la-preventa-de-los-ultimos-jedi
Until friday, Cinemex had sold about 85K tickets in PS; 75K of them are for midnight screenings. West and center zones of Mexico City are top players for the movie, then comes the same cities that Cinépolis. Top formats are 2D subtitled and Cinemextremo (auditorioums with 300-500 seats, Dolby Atmos system and some of them with laser projection).
'The Force Awakens' sold about 400K tickets and grossed about $25.3M in midnight screenings (3rd best numbers only behind Civil War and BvS). PS total was about 800K tickets (2nd best number only behind Civil War which came about 1M)
