Which movie do you think has a chance to topple Coco from the top? Toy Story 4 or Infinity War?
I don't think there's a movie with a chance in a middle term. Coco exploded like crazy, unlike to what people in other places can think, here really wasn't expectation of it becoming No. 1 all-time; marketing was poor until a couple of weeks before release, GA had doubts for all the 'Book of Life' controversy and fear that Disney would show only stereotypes (that would have killed it). Coco was a huge surprise with amazing legs, IW and TS4 will have tremendous debuts but the kind of WOM that Coco reached is hard to get.

The heavy duty pushers of this movie (Braniac 5 and company) there have pretty much written off the domestic market and have moved to the International JL thread and are pushing the "China Will Save It" card.
JL seems to have opened pretty soft in Europe as well as the US.
The movie is opening soft pretty much everywhere except Brazil and China.

The Marvel movie i'm expecting right now the most is Avengers: Infinity War, but the Disney's SH movie i'm expecting the most is The Incredibles 2.

Agree that FD is not the best sequel and underperformed in this market (I had huge expectations), but... hating it?
I had same expectations but release date didn't helped at all, there was a lot of marketing coming from the US that when the movie was released not many people was aware of it, Pixar never shouldn't delayed it.
1 hour ago, Purple Minion said:JL is going to benefit from the 4-day OW, but somehow I can see it earning less than BvS... I see SS levels. Which other big movies are released soon, besides Jedi?
I agree, buzz isn't big, any of my friends or from my family wants to see this and other people have told me the same, BvS was a big letdown that hurted the brand and team-ups movies aren't any novelty. The good part is that there's no great competition 'til TLJ so being one of the only choices to see may help

5 hours before it hit theatres, Justice League is finally going up on PS, but in somehow are irregular like Star Wars; strong in some areas but doing poorly in others. Kinda unpredictable right now.

PS for The Last Jedi starts next monday, same day that Daisy, Rian and Mark come to promote it in a black carpet event.
Ready to buy tickets for midnight screening and IMAX on Christmas, hope Cinépolis' servers don't crash this time like they did with TFA.

With a 20-Day total of $842M MXN, Coco has passed Marvel's The Avengers to become the highest grossing film ever in Mexico.
No. 1 by admissions
No. 1 by gross
No. 5 adjusted by inflation. Will be No. 1 after it passes Toy Story 3 ($1,033M)

Yeah, sure, spaniards were pure evil ... though mexican precolombine tribes used to cannibalize and exterminate themselves (without any external help) with extreme savage rituals ... yeah, very good. They lived in heaven before Spaniards landed (also Portugal France and Netherlands landed). Maybe you would have preferred the british to land before, and get your local cultures and people preserved today in tiny "fenced" reserves as in a zoo, as happens in north america, right?
Wait, what? No, i didn't mean that Spain were the bad guys, and i'm aware of how different civilizations took power and territory conquering other smaller civilizations. I'm just saying that there were a lot of traces and elements that got lost or reduced in the process, but that's something i've should skipped.

Anyway, I do think the movie would resonate to a broad audience mostly because of the strong family ties (even beyond the grave) that the movie highlights
This.
That's why chinese censor didn't had any issue on give it a release date.

Actually some mexican cultures did celebrations to their dear deads even before Spain took the country and gave end to most of civilizations.

A source told me that the censors in SARFT of China was so impressed and touched by this movie that they immediately give it a go(have Chinese release date).
This is very surprisng since no movie that has ghost/afterlife world themes can pass censorship.
Maybe this movie can be cup of tea of Chinese GA unlike other Pixar works.
The family topic is something that definitely can resonate. The colorful elements also can help.

under 50% drop for Coco isn't too much to ask?
Paycheck weekend + Buen Fin (mexican version of Black Friday, but this last the entire weekend) + Holiday on monday
I'd say is entirely possible, but screen count is going to influence.

PS for JL in Cinépolis still good but not great, over WW but on par with T:R and GOTG 2, WW had huge walk-ups so since tickets went on sale a bit late i'm expexting the same for JL.
I have no comparison for Cinemex, but looks decent, not in a monster level like It was earlier this year.

I say Infinity War (or whatever the new Avengers movie is now called) for sure.
Hype is strong with this one. People are nuts waiting for a teaser. Would be awesome to see this (teaser) and Incredibles 2 playing before TLJ.

Mexico Box Office | Don't say it loud: Three weeks on top for Beetlejuice sequel
in International Box Office
Posted
I wonder if it is by a wide margin or on par with It, T:R and SM:HC. That would be a $50-$60M Fri, worst case would be $175M and best case would be $210M.
As i said before, this is unpredictable cause we don't know the path it may take.
OD (Fri)/OW ratio for the three last DCEU installments.
- Wonder Woman: 3.5x
- Batman v Superman: 2.9x
- Suicide Squad: 2.5x
