  1. Comparisons to Mario are a bad idea & not fair, as Mario is simply a bigger brand overall worldwide. Which will be demonstrated via sales in the gaming world yet again - when both their upcoming games release on the same day in a few months.
  2. Toho announced they're doing the "Super Mario Theater" thing at 12 theaters from July 1 to July 23. Source
  3. I assume they're referring to the first PlayStation showcase in 2 years, for which fans' expectations were through the roof. Predictably, it landed like the Hindenburg - with even the most ardent PlayStation console warriors branding it the "worst showcase of all time".
  4. I got a survey from Twitch's Research Power Group regarding Twitch-related marketing for this movie. Clearly, someone is doing a "What Went Wrong?" marketing post-mortem. 💀
  5. If anyone else wants to track Mario's availability at various TOHO cinemas by region, here's the page for it. Very barren openings so far, but the handful that did open sales are doing well. (I see this random timeslot at the Roppongi Hills location is begging for a lonesome person to buy that one front row ticket.)
  6. As a comparison, the fastest-selling first party launch worldwide in PlayStation history was last year's God of War: Ragnarök. Scarlet / Violet almost doubled its sales (despite mixed reviews). Both at launch and 3 months later. -------------------- As for Detective Pikachu, I remember it had weird marketing choices. They spent a lot of time and money targeting the "wrong" demographics (and taking families for granted). Like their insane placements at Coachella, for instance.
  7. I mean, WB even sponsored Coachella's Neon Carnival. They're definitely hoping the young adults show up.
  8. Some people who think WW1 was a success mostly due to alleged "female superhero novelty" might think the 2nd will decrease since the novelty's gone or something, I guess.
  9. Surely the first leak (branding slides from the marketing agency Hamagami Carroll) shows "the final design"? The final render itself is a different story.
  10. He's now worried about brand damage. "If a poor directorial choice becomes a hot topic, then it could continue to damage Sonic’s IP."
  11. Why are Netflix Original movies' CGI usually so ... under-par? Do they work with the same studios all the time or are the good houses all booked or something?
