  1. I like Multiverse of Madness solely because of Sam Raimi's direction but the script is ass. No Way Home has an insanely dumb script too but it gets away with it for 2 big reasons. The characters overall are more likable and compelling and the Three Spider-Men's chemistry is insanely good. Their scenes are great and they are one of the highlights of the entire MCU.
  2. I can tell that MCU fans still think that we're living in a world where "it's fun" is enough to get people to see any comic book movie. That time is over. The sooner the fans accept that, the better off they'll be. The Marvels being "fun" is not enough anymore.
  3. Superman is vulnerable to magic as well but I get your point that her having no vulnerabilities is a huge issue. I don't know why they wrote themselves into this corner.
  4. Exactly! Iman Vellani- charming but not a star Teynona Paris - charming but not a star Brie Larson- has cute moments but comes off as stand-off-ish I'm not saying this just because she is a woman. Joaquin Phoenix is crap at interviews too but Lady Gaga and a good trailers and other types of marketing will sell Joker 2.
  5. Margot, JLAW and Zendaya know how to do movie star promo. Bless her, she seems like a nice person and she is a great dramatic actor but Brie Larson, who is the lead of the film, is not a charismatic actor on the promo circuit. She doesn't know how to do the movie star thing.
  6. No it should not have stayed in November. Unlike The Marvels, Dune is the type of film that will benefit from Zendaya and Timmy promoting it.
  7. Every studio is reactionary when their back is against the wall. Marvel will be reactionary just like Lucasfilm and WB were. How reactionary, remains to be seen. I think Rose Tico sucked as a character but the thing to do was to rewrite her into a good character, not nearly totally excise her character from the final Star Wars sequel. That's a lazy tactic. Brie Larson's Captain Marvel will never be loved but Marvel can still continue to work on her as a supporting character. And tone down her powers for goodness sake. She is way over powered.
  8. Eh, people were too doomer on here even before COVID. Everything that didn't make a billion dollars was seen as a massive flop. Now that the numbers are actually bad, of course the doomerism is going to get far worse. That's why I'll be mostly staying away from the weekend threads.
  9. People liked Steve Rogers, they don't like Carol Danvers. She'll be in Avengers 5 but no way will she have the position and importance that Captain America had. Audiences have spoken.
  10. I barely agree with Spiderbyte on anything concerning Marvel but I think saying that Deadpool doesn't count as an MCU film because it is a comedy and a parody is ridiculous.
  11. I think that's because some people are still trying to protect it. The Internet believes that going to see 200M movies made by the Disney Corporation is the exact same thing as activism.
  12. That post was talking about Captain Marvel and Aquaman. I'm definitely not going to discuss performances in two movies that I haven't seen yet. I choose the 2018 Aquaman movie over the 2019 Captain Marvel movie. That's all I meant.
  13. Jason Momoa having fun or Brie Larson sleep walking through a bad role? Not a difficult choice for me.
  14. I don't understand Gen Z's obsession with labeling every single piece of their sexuality and plenty of other things but overall I like Gen Z. Boomers screwed up the world and elder Gen X's did nothing to save it. The kids are just trying to be good and survive. I said and believed plenty of stupid crap when I was young.
  15. I'm going to get a little dramatic here so bare with me. So many people, including myself, pointed out how weak Carol Danvers was as a character and how bland Larson's performance was but were lumped into the "I hate women" incel club because of that. I know other factors hurt The Marvels as well but in a way I feel vindicated today. I'm a Left leaning woman and I want more movies starring women and I never had issues with CM because it was starring a woman and yet pointing out the issues was seen as wrong or at least giving aid and comfort to the enemy. We have to be able to honestly discuss the flaws in all films, including female led films. Stop claiming that every single criticism of Captain Marvel came from bad men and self hating women. That was never true.
  16. But Elemental legs! The internet told me that The Marvels had Elemental style word of mouth and would have similar legs.
  17. Man Secret Invasion was dire, positively dire. I think the weak films were a bigger issue but that could not have helped The Marvels either. I think that show ruined Nick Fury for me.
  18. I thought The Hunger Games was good, Catching Fire flat out great and the last two were decent but hampered by being pointlessly split into two movies. I like the franchise but The Hunger Games without Katniss Everdeen didn't hold that much appeal to me. The new film looks fine but it being a prequel and not having Katniss leaves me not in a rush to see it.
  19. Meh numbers for The Hunger Games but not surprising with it being a prequel and having lackluster reviews. Prequels usually don't do great. The only way this film would have opened big (70M) is if it would have started a buzzy actress like Florence Pugh or Zendaya and got an 85% rating on Rotten Tomatoes.
  20. Captain Marvel 1.1 billion dollar gross obfuscated what I have been saying for years. Carol Danvers, as she is portrayed in her first movie, is a dull over powered character who is hard to care about. She's the Henry Cavill Superman of the MCU. People thought the film was fine and fun but never attached to the lead character. So that killed her too late nearly 5 years later sequel.
  21. It's definitely paying for the sins of Eternals, Love and Thunder, Quantumania and yes despite people denying it because it made a very frontloaded 950M, Multiverse of Madness. But it can only pay for the opening weekend. The word of mouth is all on the film itself.
