  1. Dwayne Johnson In Talks To Reprise Maui For Disney’s Animated ‘Moana 2’; Live-Action Pic Bound To Shift Dates "One mega big piece of information that Disney CEO Bob Iger forgot to mention in his announcement of Moana 2 yesterday was whether Dwayne Johnson was coming back to reprise his iconic role as demigod Maui. Deadline has learned that the action star, in fact is in talks and it’s looking good. And as Maui says, “You’re Welcome.” The jury is still out on whether Auli’i Cravalho comes back as the voice of Moana. We hear that the actress is in talks, but they aren’t as close as Johnson’s. Cravalho already announced back in May on social media that she won’t be reprising Moana in the live-action version of the movie."
  2. Following the demo discussion, this is a longshot, but does anyone know the demographic breakdown for Dreamgirls back in 2006 (if such info was ever available?). Just curious, since it also opened (well, went wide(r) from 3 theaters to 800+) on a Christmas Monday. I remember seeing it that day with a predominantly Black audience (and had to buy for a showing several hours in advance since they were all selling out). All I could find was Nikki Finke's writeup in Deadline which doesn't give percentages. "The target audience had been African-Americans, gays and upscale whites. But now the movie is playing bigger than expected with white audiences in general."
  3. Was there a more recent Willy Wonka movie than the Depp one, because that was a musical.

  7. Thank you for offering some much needed truth in a thread that continues to have too many people who don't know what they're talking about.
  8. I was skeptical of the trades during the strike, but I enjoyed the unexpected snarkiness at the end of Variety's article. https://variety.com/2023/film/news/warner-bros-shelves-coyote-vs-acme-movie-john-cena-1235786409/ "New management at Warner Bros. Pictures Animation has focused on developing movies for the big screen and, starting in 2026, intends to release two animated films in theaters a year. The company is currently working on feature-length animated films based on Dr. Seuss classics “Cat in the Hat” and “Oh, the Places You’ll Go!” Unless, of course, Warners. needs another last-minute tax write-off. "
  9. Her "outburst" is simply saying not to listen to anyone but SAG-AFTRA...which appears to be the same thing you're saying. Should we ignore your outburst as well?
  10. Bringing this back from last week But ooooh...Fran is the problem! SAG's behaving badly by not negotiating fast enough with people who refused to negotiate with them! Nonsense.
  11. Complete and utter nonsense, and too typical of what's been common in this thread. The strike has dragged on because, in both cases, the studios walked away and refused to negotiate for months at a time. Nothing Fran did was as destructive as that, plain and simple. Oh no! She said not to wear Halloween costumes based in studio IP! She brought a stuffed doll to Negotiations! Meanwhile the studios...refused to negotiate for months. But SAG is awful? Bulls---.
  12. SAG-AFTRA was always willing to negotiate. It was AMPTP who walked away from the table. Both sides admitted that. So what did you tell us: the people who always wanted to negotiate...would want to continue negotiating? Silly SAG made so many missteps this week that they ended up...exactly where they wanted to be! (Unless you're suggesting SAG already made concessions to get AMPTP back to the table. Otherwise, if SAG made SO many missteps this week as people are claiming, wouldn't that more likely to keep the studios away until they broke the guild further?)
  13. I think it's undermined by a former president and failed politician screeching "Go negotiate!" when it takes two parties to negotiate and it wasn't the guild refusing to at the time.
  14. eta: Just caught up with the news above. But Melissa Gilbert is still a half-wit.
  15. Given that the page starts with the Wonka discussion, this seems like a wasted opportunity.
  16. First look. I don't like it. Regina's costume is awful, and if I didn't know which actress is playing Gretchen and which is playing Karen, I wouldn't have been able to tell from this. Too interchangeable style-wise.
  17. ‘It Never Needed to Go This Long’ Five months of agony delivered the WGA an historic deal. Here’s how the writers won — and why they’re still angry. https://www.vulture.com/article/how-the-wga-won-historic-contract-2023-strike-end.html
