They knew with Covid they had to make huge cuts and big price raises.  Iger didn't want those unpopular cuts and price increases ruining his legacy, so he steps aside BUT stays around.

Now, Covid is over (at least as far as business is concerned, even internationally) and it's business as usual everywhere...so he comes back.

But Chapek became CEO in February 2020 and though COVID existed then, most people didn’t know about it or if they did, how big it’d get. And the decision to hire Chapek had been in place for weeks before that I’m sure. I don’t think Iger, Chapek or the Disney board could see onto the future and imagine the pandemic or the shutdowns and the havoc they would cause for movies, businesses, etc.

Iger’s legacy is Disney so it makes sense he would watch closely after leaving it on a high point. He probably had no plans to return until the downward spiral continued. Could it be possible Iger planned to return at some point? Sure. But I don’t think they planned this around COVID.

  2. yes, Lupita got murmurs when she showed up. She’s great.

and I definitely got what David Ehrlich meant about Reylo vibes between Namor and Shuri. Twitter is hilarious about this but my friend and I thought it was going to initially be a marriage contract thing lol. *no judging please!* Then he killed her mom and pftt…

Pain. So much pain. Letitia and Angela are magnificent.

They nail Namor. Needed more M’Baku.

Just finished watching and agreed. It hurt so much. Had to process a bit with my friends. Planning to see it again in a week with my partner but it was so heavy, I’m not sure I can do any extra watches. I’ll say the emotional beats landed for myself and those I watched with, but we all agreed it’s a tough one to repeat watch like other fun MCU movies.

In the 2003 film, Bruce's father injected himself with something, that he passed down to Bruce. And when Bruce was exposed to the gamma radiation in the lab, it activated the blood cells in his body.

If it’s just Bruce’s father that passed the genetic trait, how does that work with what happens in She Hulk? Jen is his cousin, she wouldn’t have anything passed down from Bruce’s father, only Bruce’s grandfather.

  5. Bought tickets for 8p tomorrow. I’m so excited! My friends are getting our tissues ready. I also definitely identify with Eric’s post. Saw the first one 4 times in theaters and still love rewatching it.

This will be the first MCU movie I’ll be seeing opening night since Far From Home. I used to see everything opening night or week since Dr. Strange but yeah the pandemic and pretty meh reaction to the shows have sapped my interest. Though I loved NWH and really liked Shang-Chi, I saw them weeks after premier and on Disney Plus, respectively. Haven’t completed a TV show since FATWS though I did start Loki, Ms. Marvel and She Hulk. Haven’t seen Eternals, DS2, or T:L&T even though they’re on streaming.

I hope this will help reinvigorate my interest in seeing movies in theaters again. I’ve only seen NWH, NTTD and AQP 2 in theaters since COVID started.

  6. Hmmm. Looks like it’s good. But not seeing the effusive praise the first one had…yet. That could be due to the circumstances. But it’s also likely they weren’t able to capture the magic of the first one…understandably.

Lots of praise for Tenoch Huerta, Leticia Wright and Angela Bassett.

  7. Really liked it, though I definitely think I might not have connected as much if I hadn’t read the book recently. Perhaps seeing it in theaters might’ve made for a better experience as I saw it on HBO Max with my fiancé. And he flat out hated it and kept asking questions that distracted me a bit. He doesn’t plan to see the sequel (if/when it happens), but I was overall satisfied and definitely looking forward to the continuation. Lots of things near identical to the book, and some changes that worked. I wasn’t really wowed by anyone’s acting, but no one stood out in a negative way either. I haven’t seen the other versions of Dune so this is my first exposure to it on screen. I really do feel it was portrayed in the best way possible. 8/10 for me, 6/500 for the fiancé.

  8. Finished the first book a few weeks ago and really liked it. Hopefully that’ll give me a richer experience when I watch the movie. I’ve been debating reading the next couple of books but I’ll probably save them for closer to when the sequel gets made/released. Wonder if they might try to lead into Dune Messiah with the next movie or just make it a definite ending.
