  1. Would midnight showings count as previews? It’s the same day. Movie is just starting at 0:00 as you put it. So maybe the roll in that you mentioned from midnight showings did happen.
  2. Within the context of Endgame, it didn’t really make any sense to me that Talos could impersonate Nick Fury. In CM, we see Carol give Fury the pager and then she leaves with the Skrulls. At the end of IW, Nick uses the pager before he succumbs to the blip. Therefore, Nick came back with the Hulk snapin Endgame. Fury mentions meeting Spidey at the Stark’s funeral, so was Talos sent back after the events of Endgame? Did Nick tell Talos that he met Spidey at the funeral? Why would Talos need to impersonate Fury? Why is Fury in charge of the Skrull ship? All these questions will probably be answered in Stage 4 films.
  3. From your lips....or keyboard. We seldom have Tuesday openings, since premium seating became the rage. However, I would assume that the professional analyst would have considered strong evening shows based on pre-sales. Although not a precise science, the data is there. Many on this site are excellent at extrapolating. Anecdotally, my show here in NY was sold out and I did not get the benefit of the discount. It wouldn’t have mattered anyway for me, as I have the AMC A-List. I paid only for my son today. In fact, I chose a late morning show because the evening shows were crazy. Nevertheless, I still ended up in a sold out theater with about 180 seat capacity. The unpredictable factor is walk ups, but for shows that are already saturated, there won’t be that many. That’s why I would think the analyst would have a better handle on this and should have predicted high volume attendance for evening shows. Even I could see it and I am no expert. Can’t wait for our Asgardians!
  4. What a big difference between possibly as low as 38-43 million (+\-) and the 53-55 early estimate by Charlie. It will be very interesting to see where the movie lands. I don’t really trust Deadline, so I am leaning toward Charlie more.
  5. I have to give the MCU credit for their ability to weave older MCU movies into the new ones. Their use of Iron Man to integrate Beck into the movie was seamless, as were those of the other Tony Starks haters. Was nice seeing Obedaya Stain again. I think he is an underestimated villain. I really enjoyed this movie, as did my son. He actually was able to sit through the whole thing.
  6. Just got out of FFH. Much better than HC. Really enjoyed it. Jakey was good and it was really funny. Loved the Whitney Houston touch at the beginning. Oh yeah, show was completely sold out.
  7. Hmmm! I hope this guy is right. I really do, but I am dubious as he ranked Man of Steel and especially BvS over WW. He thinks Man of Steel is the best movie in the DCEU? I enjoyed WW, Aquaman and Justice League much more than Man of Steel, even though Henry Cavill is quite the eye candy. 😜😜😍😍
  8. Godzilla will struggle to make what TS4 will make on its opening week. That is some perspective as to what constitutes a true box office disappointment. I thought this summer would shatter box office records. WRONG!
  9. I over predicted almost everything as a strategy. Of course, that will fail. But by no means would I call TS4 a disappointment based on my predictions. One of the few movies that will probably go under my prediction is probably Endgame.
  10. I think we’re talking passed each other. Sure, based on expectations TS4 underperformed. But the expectations were not realistic based on the movie’s pedigree. Had it not been for I2, Finding Dory would have been the measuring stick for a super successful opening. I2 was an anomaly for animated films. That is why Deadline and the other trades should have been more careful in evaluating and forecasting TS4. A more historical look at the data/genre should have led them to temper their expectations. On its own, opening at around 115-120 is very good.
  11. So long as my WW84 does as well as WW, then I will be happy. If it does above, which I expect, then I will be ecstatic. But this summer kind of makes me apprehensive to go all in. Guarding against disappointment already.
  12. Truth is that no one can predict how these sequels will play out. There are many who feel that FFH will breeze passed 400M to 420 because it is marketed as a quasi sequel to Endgame. But who knows anymore? 420 range would be a massive increase of almost 100M from Homecoming. I think some people may be minimizing how great a run Captain Marvel had, because they view it as a given for FFH to increase due to the Endgame connection, as CM did. I have no clue how FFH will do. Absolutely none, but please do not over predict again and have a let down if it fails to open at 200 million over 6 days. This board is filled with those who massively over predict but then are disappointed when the movie fails to meet their lofty expectations.
  13. Oh of course. The argument is just silly and this person is seeking attention. He was stating his preferences and if you or others deem that racist, then go for it. I certainly don’t think he should be getting the amount of oxygen that he got for his statements, especially when he compared his preference to pedophilia. Clearly, there are attractive people of all races. The fact that he only views white people as attractive is his loss. We aren’t going to change his mind by debating his preferences. I think he should just be ignored, as I think most racist should be unless they have the power and/or will to hurt people. I have said more on the topic than I wanted. I will conclude by stating that any one who can’t see that Idris Elba, Denzel Washington, Boris Kodjoe, Jesse Williams, etc as attractive is crazy. There are just so many black, white, brown, Asian, Indian, etc famous people to name. Again, the argument is just silly.
  14. This conversation is really getting off the rails. Each person is allowed to have their preferences, even if those preferences are seemingly racist. In any event, what can be said about Aladdin. My goodness, no one predicted this run after the trailers got killed on YouTube and on social media. My son and I really enjoyed it, so I am happy it is doing well. I can honestly say that I have enjoyed every movie that I have seen this summer. I loved Endgame. I really liked SLOP2 and Aladdin. I skipped Godzilla, but a friend of mine said it was good. I thought Ma was enjoyable as were John Wick 3, Dark Phoenix and Shaft. For me, this summer has been good at the movies. Obviously, that is not the case for a lot of people, as many haven’t bothered to go.
  15. The Deadline guy Alessandro has a serious Disney bias. While Disney is usually conservative with their tracking/predictions, when it comes to Disney Deadline usually way over predicts. Latest examples are Captain Marvel’s opening week, Endgame’s second weekend (predicted 180 million when the numbers for the week did not point to that) and now Toy Story 4. The fact that he is a fanboy for Disney really skews expectations and that is too bad. I know other trades thought TS4 would open at 140-160 too, but none predicted 200 million. If TS4 made 125 when it was expected to make 140, then I think most would shrug that off as a slight underperformance, but Deadline had to up the ante to 200 million. It is too bad that a fantastic opening of ~120 million will be seen as a disappointment because of unrealistic expectations. No animated movie had ever reached those heights and a few days of initial presales should not have led anyone to jump the gun. Objectively speaking, there is nothing wrong with this TS4’s opening. Anything over 100M is still great for an animated film. This movie will well surpass that.
  16. Dark Phoenix is really not that bad. I liked it and I liked Brightburn too. Too bad they both tanked at the box office. Neither deserved their box office fate in my opinion. So whatever!
  17. We shall see whether WW84 drops from original. No one can tell either way. In any event, hope the person on twitter will provide clarification as to what he/she meant.
  18. I agree with your brother. Loved the addition of Tiffany Haddish. I thought it was pretty good and so did the audience with whom I saw it. Children and parents were really into it. My son loved it. The pacing is good and the length is perfect for children. Only thing my son was disappointed about was that Leonard was not in it. He got a kick out of that dog in the first.
  19. Friday increases seem to be around 50% for everything in Deadline’s update. Pretty muted. Very very ugly numbers for holdovers, except Aladdin. Taking my son to see SLOP2 in a little while. He loved the first one, especially Snowball.
