  1. Yeah, sure! Spider- man grossed about 2.2 million on the weekend that it grossed 400 million- Week 10. It then proceeded to drop 59% and 54% in its next two weekends. Those drops were partially due to its diminished theater counts. However, it should be noted that its 10th weekend was also the weekend following July 4th. I do not want to jinx WW, but it would seem unlikely that she would drop so substantially. That was the point I was making. Just from an observer's standpoint, it seems the studio was content with the 400 mark for Spidey and decided to allocate its theaters to other movies. Of course, there's no way I could or would know that for certain.
  2. This was the last crucial weekend for WW in the race to surpass Spidey 1 for the Origins crown. Although, WW could very well lose theaters and collapse like Spidey, nothing in its history has shown that.
  3. WB still have not learned their lesson about these Sunday drops. They should consider estimating in the 30% range until proven otherwise. However, the numbers for Dunkirk and WW are still very good.
  4. I love the Star Wars prequels too. Attack of the Clones and Revenge of the Sith were especially really good to me. That conversation that the emperor has with Anakin about Darth Sidious was chilling. I hope to read your write up for them in the review of their respective years.
  5. WB pulls this late show every Monday I have been here. It is annoying that today they are almost two hours behind the other studios. Anyway, I saw The Dark Tower. It really wasn't THAT bad. It was short, so that helped the plot move along.
  6. I don't understand why Deadline would choose to give Apes' number. What is compelling about it? Is it a way to remind us of the fact that it underperformed at the box office? I loved Apes, but come on. I just don't understand. There are movies like Spider-man, Baby Driver and of course WW that I think more people would have been interested in seeing updated for early Friday numbers.
  7. Yes! I agree. It showed that friendships aren't perfect and neither are marriages. Sometimes they endure and sometimes they don't.
  8. This was a really good movie. It is about choice And friendship. I know, it's cliche, but that is not always a bad thing. I am rooting for this movie to continue doing really well.
  9. I Know What You Did Last Summer... OMG classic. I always feel bad for SMG's character and how she died. She was sooooo close to escaping. Ah... the memories!!!
  10. I saw the preview for Kidnap before WW and it looked suspenseful. While not at the top of my list, I would like to see it. It's every parent's worst nightmare to have a child kidnapped and it scared the heck out of me. I think it probably appeals to a few people. I must admit that the marketing has been pretty weak. Halle has a fanbase for sure though. How big it is? That is the question.
  11. I am worried about two movies based on these abysmal numbers for the holdovers. Those two movies are GT and WW. I loved both movies and I want them to reach 100 mil and 400 mil respectively sooner rather than later. I have been deflated by Apes and at this point, I don't think it can reach 150 mil. Sad because it is a really good movie.
  12. What a great retrospective. I almost forgot about all the great movies that came out in 1997. Face/Off is one of my very favorite movies. Nowadays, we get more movies and bigger budgets by comparison, so the quality is not the same. Thank you!
  13. While I agree with the general point that you're making, I take issue with one part. One of the many marvelous accomplishments of WW's run is that she faced competition and just kept on strutting. She never missed a beat. No one had any idea that Cars and Transformers would perform so poorly. WW also had to face DM3 and Spider-Man too. She has plenty of competition. Certainly more formidable competition than Dunkirk and ..... Apes, which people here have declared a box office failure. Nevertheless, you are right on the fact that Spidey is having a very good run at the box office. I don't see how anyone could deny that unless they were expecting Avengers type numbers. A run which ends at 320+ million and 850+WW is terrific.
  14. I have not read the entire thread, so forgive me if There's Something About Mary or Shakespeare In Love have already been suggested for 1998. I love those two movies.
  15. Good recovery for both movies. Wonder whether tomorrow's drop will be steep. The box office watch is like a roller coaster.
  16. Will be interesting to see what the Tuesday box office has in store.
  17. These drops are astonishingly bad. DM3 did well not to drop over 50. GT and Atomic Blonde at 61% seem really bad. Since it's GT's 3rd week, I think it might recover more easily. I don't know how to read AB.
  18. Dunkirk is a war movie. It is doing just fine for its genre. I just looked up some similar movies on BOM. If it contends during awards season, it will probably reach the high end threshold for war movies, meaning the likes of Saving Private Ryan. WW has been a joy to follow. It is clearly winding down. I hope it has 8-10 million left in the tank. It it has another 15 million left, then that would be movie nirvana. It has surpassed my most optimistic expectations. As it winds down, there is a bit of sorrow at seeing such a fun ride come to an end.
  19. For me, WW must stay close to Spider-man's numbers for this week. After this week, Spider-man's numbers collapsed because of the theater count. I took a look at the numbers on BOM. For some reason, BOM does not have the last two weeks of July for Spider-Man. I guess whoever ever said that GOT has an impact on the box office may have been right. It is sort of ironic that with all the disappointment at Apes' numbers, it is the only movie in the top ten to have survived Sunday without a drop, but actually increased from estimates.
