  1. https://www.boxofficepro.com/avengers-endgame-smashes-4dx-box-office-records-with-37-million-worldwide/ CJ 4DPLEX (www.cj4dx.com) announced yesterday that Marvel Studios’ Avengers: Endgamebroke records becoming the highest grossing film in the shortest time of the company’s history. The innovative multi-sensory format 4DX amassed $37 million box office worldwide in three weeks, marking a new milestone in the history of the company. In less than three weeks, Avengers: Endgame has already surpassed the total box office gross of the previous top 4DX record-holder. Marking a new milestone for the innovative format, Avengers: Endgame moves on to its fourth week run in 4DX theaters around the globe. Amongst the territories, the highest contributing countries include China and France with 13%, Korea at 12%, Japan at 8%, Mexico at 8% and USA at 7% from the total box office.
  2. From DHD's weekend report: Among those films already in play yesterday, Disney’s Aladdin was No. 1 with $6.5M, -14%, for a running total of $142.8M in its first week.
  3. Bloody hell, I refreshed 3 times to see if @sfran43 already made a thread or not. This is just unfair.
  4. https://deadline.com/2019/05/toy-story-4-opening-weekend-box-office-projection-fandango-atom-presale-records-1202624173/ Disney/Pixar’s Toy Story 4 hit tracking this morning and box office analysts are already buzzing that the fourthquel has a great shot at setting a new opening record for an animation film, besting Incredibles 2‘s 3-day last year of $182.6M. A $200M opening is not out of the question, and in the wake of Disney pulling out all the stops with exhibition on Avengers: Endgame for an all-time domestic start of $357.1M, why shouldn’t we even question Toy Story 4‘s forecast. In the tracking number tea leaves, analysts see Toy Story 4 doing about 10% better than Incredibles 2. Toy Story 4 opens on June 21. Fandango and Atom Tickets are already reporting that the first day (Tuesday) of movie ticket presales for Toy Story 4 has already set a record for an animated movie and outsold Incredibles 2. On Fandango, Toy Story 4 outstripped the first 24 hour advance ticket sales of Pixar’s Finding Dory, as well as the live-action titles Beauty and the Beast, and Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 2. On Atom Tickets, Toy Story 4 sold nearly 50% more tickets than their top 3 animated movie pre-sellers combined (for the same time period), which includes Incredibles 2, Ralph Breaks the Internet and Hotel Transylvania 3.
  5. https://deadline.com/2019/05/godzilla-king-of-the-monsters-rocketman-ma-worldwide-box-office-opening-preview-1202623781/ This production, which we hear cost $170M before P&A, will be completely dependent on overseas should it emerge into the black, and all in Godzilla and friends should see an estimated worldwide opening of $230M-235M, which by the way, stomps on Aladdin‘s $213.5M global take-off last weekend, and the global beginnings of Legendary’s 2014 redux Godzilla ($196M unadjusted for inflation and currency exchange rates) and 2017’s Kong: Skull Island ($146.1M). That said, for the first time this summer since Avengers: Endgame opened, counter-programming will finally work at the box office with Paramount/Marv Film’s Elton John biopic Rocketman fresh from its Cannes premiere hitting $25M in U.S. Canada at an estimated 3,600, $45M+worldwide, and Universal/Blumhouse’s $5M Octavia Spencer thriller Ma eyeing $20Mdomestic or far more at 2,700 theaters. Thursday previews start at 7PM for both films.
  6. https://deadline.com/2019/05/aladdin-tuesday-box-office-record-disney-live-action-toon-remake-1202623582/?utm_source=dlvr.it&utm_medium=twitter Average industry estimates peg that the weekend will belong to Legendary/Warner Bros.’ Godzilla: King of the Monsters with around $55M at 4,100 locations. The lizard beast and friends will have all the strength of all 2D, 3D, Imax, Dolby Cinemas, PLF, Dine-Ins, Drive-Ins and 4DX formats.
  7. From DHD: The Memorial Day weekend may be over, but Disney’s Aladdin continued to mine box office gold with an estimated strong Tuesday of $12.1M. Disney will report their official figures soon.
  8. Damn, that TJB comp is not flattering at all. How much potential did Disney squander here?? What would have been a best case scenario if the stars aligned for Aladdin like it did for TJB??
  9. From DHD: Endgame ended its run in China with $629.1M and in the UK has now passed $110M. Regionally, the grosses are an all-time industry high of $1.11B in Asia-Pacific; $505M in Europe where it is the No. 5 movie ever; and $246M in Latin America, also the all-time industry high.
  10. From DHD OS update: With $121Moverseas for $207.1M global (for the three-day), the Will Smith-starrer is off to a good start, notably over-performing domestically and seeing a strong launch in Asia. In IMAX, the worldwide bow is $15M with $6.9M from 996 international screens. In like-for-like opening comps and at today’s rates, The Jungle Book bowed to $160M abroad, Maleficent did $107M and Cinderella $85M. Family-friendly Latin America gave Genie No. 1s across the board with Aladdin tracking ahead of both Jungle Book and Cinderella, and very close to Maleficent. Mexico leads the region with an estimated $9.2M for three days, 121% ahead of Cinderella, 52% ahead of Jungle Book and 3% behind Maleficent, making it the second highest ever May opening weekend there. Brazil’s bow came in above all comps (+92% on Jungle Book/+55% on Cinderella/+35% on Maleficent). Europe was the only place that Aladdin didn’t take No. 1s everywhere as John Wick: Chapter 3 was big in Germany as expected. It is, however, tracking ahead of both Maleficent and Cinderella across the region. As noted above, the UK and Italy were tops with $8.4M and $6.6M, respectively. The UK has a bank holiday this weekend that leads into half-term school breaks and sets up nice play. In Italy Aladdin grabbed the 2nd best opening weekend of 2019, behind only Avengers: Endgame, and was 17% ahead of Maleficent. Elsewhere, Aladdin also posted the second highest opening weekend to date in 2019 in Spain, and was the best Ramadan bow ever in the UAE and Jordan.
  11. That's a 67.9% drop from last weekend (47.7m was OS 4th weekend). Is Avatar still on the menu??
  12. From BOM: Disney's Aladdin delivered $7 million in Thursday evening previews beginning at 6PM and including select fan events that started at 5PM. The performance is well ahead of the $4.2 million Maleficent brought in ahead of a $69 million three-day debut as well as the $2.3 million for Cinderella, which opened with $67.8 million in its first three days. The performance is also ahead of the $5.5 million Pirates of the Caribbean: Dead Men Tell No Tales brought in from preview showings ahead of a $78 million Memorial Day weekend four-day opening.
