  2. Of course budget and production are bigger for SHM. This is the genre on the rise. Mortal Engines looks like Hunger Games and Divergent as much as Ant Man looks like Guardians of the Galaxy and Venom. They share quite a lot of similarities.
  3. Star Wars was based on Valerian HQ. Regardless of whether Mortal Engines is based on a book, this movie does not come from a big brand. To the audience, this is a new world. I consider a valid entry. It should be making better numbers. This talk that every YA movie is the same thing coming from a fan of superhero movies sounds very ironic.
  4. Box office mojo says budget is $100m MRC and Universal Pictures are releasing Mortal Enginesinto 3,103 locations this weekend with expectations for a meager, $10 million debut for the $100 million production. Our analysis points to a debut anywhere from $9.5 million on the low end with $14 million as the absolute ceiling, though our range boils down somewhere closer to $10-12 million. https://www.boxofficemojo.com/news/?id=4466&p=.htm
  5. I'm shocked. Roma over Mortal Engines DOM is happening. It's true, movietickets told me.
  6. I read 2.0's budget is sub $80m (costs + domestic marketing), is that true? This is a great number.
  7. Reviews are decent for this kind of movie I think it will open near to $8m. It is opening in less theaters than Slender Man
  8. First review in rt is fresh Van Rooijen's overreliance on herky-jerky jump scares is a pity, because the movie that exists in the silence is surprisingly satisfying. November 29, 2018 | Full Review… Teo Bugbee New York Times Top Critic 100%
  9. DHD fixed the sneak peak number. They said 3m. The figure includes Tuesday sneaks at 600 locations which minted around $1.8M we hear (hence last night was $7.3M).

  12. MT 1 27% Fantastic Beasts: The Crimes of Grindelwald 2 20.8% Dr. Seuss' The Grinch 3 14.1% Bohemian Rhapsody 4 3.7% A Star is Born 5 3.4% Overlord
  13. If I remember right, ASIB had huge presales, surpassing Venom hour by hour many times, so maybe this comparision is not ridiculous. Fb2 Presales for tuesday were lower than ASIB's presales for wed, 6624 vs 7443 and ASIB did $1.4m there. Imax and 3D will help but I don't expect much higher number for FB2 tuesday. On the other side, FB2 has already surpassed ASIB's total presales for thursday previews.
  14. Today is Dia dos Muertos in Mexico, and I would like to congrats my lovely Star Wars saga in this special day. You showed us how hard is to keep a successful franchise. Happy Death day (2U).
  15. I can't see how under 10m is far more likely than 10m+. *Pre sales are fine. They started very early so they are slower. *FB1 did 8.75m, yes, starting previews at 6 pm, but it was 2 years ago and FB2, its first sequel, will has Tuesday limited previews inflating the numbers. *If core fan base that will buy earlier is closer to SW, FB1 early presales should have been stronger. They weren't until some days before the release.
