  1. Very "Meh" opening in Latin America. In Brasil it actually decreased a bit from the first one but that's the WC+ER effect. In the southern cone (Argentina-Chile-Uruguay) it will debut third/fourth in admissions. Winter's Holidays in Uruguay didn't help that much. I think in Latin America Ant-Man will be lost in the shuffle because there's a lot of competition incoming and I2 and JW are holding very well.
  2. Some actuals: 1 Jurassic World: Fallen Kingdom UPI $1,253,177 -21.2% 71 $17,650 $3,842,307 2 2 Incredibles 2 Disney $1,016,597 -17.3% n/a n/a $4,683,839 3 3 Sicario: Day of the Soldado Sony $64,615 - 45 $1,436 $64,615 1 10 Avengers: Infinity War Disney $10,321 -61.8% n/a n/a $14,579,696 10 ? Solo: A Star Wars Story Disney $2,138 -71.1% n/a n/a $997,657 6 Very good holds for both JW:FK and I2. Sicario did badly but still managed to scratch third place according to Comscore. IW and Solo suffering the typical end of run drops. Solo did leave theaters this week, so it officially missed 1M USD by a hair, after having three consecutive 70% drops. Lowest grossing Star Wars movie ever, even below prequels. Ant-man and the Wasp debuted first and The Purge fourth on opening day. Surprisingly, Tag left the top ten after having a nice week. Oh well, gotta make space to all the releases this month.
  3. Last weekend its total stood at $79M USD across Latin America per Screen Daily. With Holiday season ahead in many countries it should continue to leg very well.

  5. Some random info: Tag did remain on fourth place on Monday, confirming good WOM. More importantly, Jurassic World: Fallen Kingdom grossed 1,3M USD, a nice 19% drop and its total so far is 3,2M USD. Is running 28% ahead of Jurassic World. This weekend Winter's Holidays start on 26% of the market. It has two releases: Ant-man and the Wasp and The First Purge. Purge movies have small grosses but good legs considering it's number of screens. First one did 100k, the rest 300k USD. Ant-Man and the Wasp opens this weekend. It faces two strong holdovers, JW:FK and Incredibles 2, which will continue to play very well and holding many screens. It will also face heavy competition from Hotel Transylvania 3 and Skyscraper in upcoming weeks. Also, the original is one of the lowest grossing of the MCU post-avengers and has the worst legs. Disney is playing defensive and it isn't putting any restriction on it. Despite having so much against it will probably increase from the first one, ridding on IW and Winter's Holidays coattails.
  6. # Thursday Friday Saturday Sunday 1.- JW:FK JW :FK JW :FK JW :FK 2.- Incredibles 2 Incredibles 2 Incredibles 2 Incredibles 2 3.- Sicario: Soldado Sicario:Soldado Sicario:Soldado Sicario:Soldado 4.- Deadpool 2 Deadpool 2 Deadpool 2 Tag 5.- Ocean's 8 Ocean's 8 Ocean's 8 Deadpool 2 Many interesting things happened over this weekend, which is boosted by holidays today. Jurassic World: Fallen Kingdom won all the days, after losing weekdays to Incredibles 2. That's exactly the opposite that you would expect, but JW:FK received the end of restrictions boost. I'm noticing that movies are starting to drop restrictions after just one week, instead of the usual two. In this year just Avengers has put 2 weeks of restrictions. Sicario: Day of the Soldado, debuted at a solid third, but the real story is Tag. The movie opened on Thursday on a rather unimpressive seventh place, but rose to sixth on Friday and then to fourth on Sunday. A movement of that kind is very unusual for non-family movies and seems to indicate good WOM. I'll wait to see Monday placement to see if that is the case, it could make good money for a movie that should have been dumped by cinemas after two weeks. Too bad that WB never puts actuals for any movie in Chile. Solo dropped out of the top ten and likely missed 1M USD unless it gets a last-minute boost of small cinemas gross. Avengers also dropped out of the top ten on weekdays but crawled to ten on Saturday and Sunday. In any case its gross now it's gonna be trivial, so its the end of the run for this huge phenomenon. Avengers 4 will have a hard time topping this because it had a perfect storm of a lot of holidays plus zero competition for screens, but its opening weekend will be a record for the ages. July is the most profitable month for the Chilean box office, thanks to Winter's Holidays that will start its staggered rollout across the country next week. Winter's Holidays weeks are three times stronger than a regular week and give a boost to Family movies and most of all, to animation. Incredibles 2 will be the biggest beneficiary along with Hotel Transylvania 3 which should do huge business by the sole fact of having its release date on this period.
  7. Some actuals: Jurassic World: Fallen Kingdom debuted with a strong first place and $1.589.733, 23% higher than the original. It beat I2 comfortably. I don't think that is the result of a particularly strong Thursday, I think that Comscore is actually reporting admissions, in which case a high average ticket price could explain the result. I find weird that Comscore reports admission instead of gross, I will give it a deeper look some other day. Incredibles 2 ended second in gross $1.229.569, 33,7% drop that is really excellent. While it was aided by the lift of restrictions it suffered by losing premium formats very early to JW so the drop is very encouraging and opens a path to $10M USD. Total for now is $3,404,340 There isn't data for Deadpool 2 this week (and I gave up on Oceans 8 long ago), but every other holdover fell very hard. Poor Solo might even miss 1M USD (7k away after a 7k weekend and 78% drop, yikes), below things like Pacific Rim: Uprising and Insidious ... This weekend has a holiday on Monday, drops should be soft. This week releases: Sicario: Day of the Soldado | Every Day | The bookshop | Tag Probably Sicario will be the only one worth noticing. I don't expect much for Tag, it has been ages since a US comedy did good and adults basically go to see animation or local movies when they want to have a laugh.
  8. (Almost) Full Latin American Opening, courtesy of the-numbers. OW against JW1 Argentina: $2,504,280 | JW: $4,153,349 | - 40% (down to ER, Just -7% in admission, see Argentina thread ) Bolivia: $451,240 | JW: $275,083 | +64% Brazil: $9,280,000 | JW: $7,735,954 | +20% Chile: $1,589,733| JW: $1,288,056 | +23% Colombia: $1,753,135 | JW: $1,547,572 | +13% Ecuador: $818,273 | JW: $808,781 | +1% Mexico: $10,143,017 | JW: $13,777,511 | -26% (down to ER, flat in lc, see Mexico Thread) Paraguay: $134,570 | - no data Perú: $1,678,499 | JW: $1,639,844 | +2% Uruguay: $178,216 | JW: $135,955 | +31% Venezuela: $482,001 | JW: $2,310,702 | -79% (does this even need explaining?) Panama/Central America is missing. Total OW from Latin America (excluding Paraguay) : $28,876,394 ( -17% against the original)
  9. 10. Deadline bones: Incredibles 2 dropped 30%, excellent hold given the huge opening. That would be around 1,3M USD for the weekend and I estimate a total cume of around 3,6M USD or more so far. Is looking good to benefit from Winter's Holidays and the only animated competition will be Hotel Transylvania 3 on July 12th (although that shouldn't be underestimated). Considering its very high average ticket price it has a chance to 10M USD. Jurassic World: Fallen Kingdom opened higher than the original which debuted at $1,288,056. The ER is very similar so the USD gross should be higher as well. That would put it in close competition to Incredibles 2 for the weekend. However, I2 has beaten JW:FK on Friday and Saturday and should do the same on Sunday, so, again, my money is on I2.
  11. No, I meant northern winter. Thanks you , purple minion too . That means that July is definitely the best period for animation in all Latin America
  12. Assuming $90M for China and Japan combined for I2, that's 210M deficit. Latin America and Domestic can pick up that. Frozen in Latin America did $90M, I2 is looking IMO to ~$130M (around TS3-Coco numbers) and maybe even more. Domestic could compensate for the rest (or do a bit better in Japan). So it would be up to Europe and the rest of Asia to decide, though that still would be hard for I2.
  13. This weekend releases: Jurassic World: Fallen Kingdom and Book Club. Jurassic World (2015): $1,288,056 OW | $6,077,033 Total | 4.72 Multiplier Thursday's placements: Jurassic World: Fallen Kingdom debuted at first place, but considering the drops OS and the strength of I2 I have doubts that it will remain there for the whole weekend. Animation rises on Fridays and especially Saturdays and Sundays. To its advantage, it has most of the premium formats and should have a higher average ticket price. My money is for I2 taking the weekend again but we'll see. Book Club (Cuando ellas quieren in Spanish) debuted at sixth, but I don't know if there is enough market for it, Ocean's 8 (fourth) and Life of the Party (ninth). Oceans and Deadpool are holding very well.
  14. TW Movie Studio Weekend Gross Change Screens Change / Avg. Gross-to-Date Week 1 Incredibles 2 Disney $1,854,204 - n/a - n/a $1,854,204 1 2 Deadpool 2 Fox $226,565 -51.4% 122 -28 $1,857 $5,986,422 5 4 Hereditary Diamond $106,336 ?- 42 - $2,532 $330,906 2 5 Avengers: Infinity War Disney $89,089 -54.4% n/a - n/a $14,508,781 8 6 Solo: A Star Wars Story Disney $33,695 -72.8% n/a - n/a $976,335 4 7 Blockers AF $28,688 - 29 - $989 $28,688 1 WB isn't reporting gross for Ocean's 8 but it was between Hereditary and Deadpool and is holding at the top of Comscore's daily placements. Incredibles 2 did even better than expected beating handily previous Pixar record Monsters University (1,4M). Outgrossed the entire run of the first one in 4 days! I think weekend admissions were underestimated, but if they were right it had a mindblowing average ticket price of $6,86, equal to Infinity War. Newspapers reported 351.711 tickets sold on its first full week, best ever for Pixar besting Cars 3 (which had 338K boosted by winter holidays). That's 7th of all time for animation, but its hard to compare since most of the top was boosted by winter holidays that Incredibles will have later on its run. Now, I2 lost a lot of premium formats to Jurassic World 2, that will affect its second-weekend drop. Let's see how it fares. Deadpool 2 held well all thing considered, is behaving a bit better than your standard superhero movie in terms of holds, but as I have said, its total is the best for a solo movie, and it will end not that far off from Civil War. Hereditary did great considering the number of screens, horror has been very strong all the year. Infinity War finally felt the loss of screens and this weekend it will be even uglier. Solo is just sad, nothing else to say. Very bad performance for Blockers, is the kind of movie that lasts two weeks on cinemas.
  15. If the China thread taught me anything this is now 100% assured not to happen
  16. This was a fun movie, really really fun. Unlike Dory or Brave it doesn't try badly to be emotional or to recreate Pixar's magic (and fail at it). This movie knew exactly what it wanted to be and it was great. Too bad the latin american dub changed Edna's voice and while it was good the original one was better. In any case, Jack Jack + Edna was just glorious.
  17. Actuals in admissions for Incredibles 2! Best Pixar OW ever with 270.000 admissions, which depending on average ticket price would be around 1,5M-1,7M USD (with a slim chance of outgrossing the entire run of the first one!), it had restrictions and premium formats did very well but there was still a discount for kids, I'm thinking maybe 6 USD per ticket. With these results, Incredibles 2 should make it to the top 10 of all time.
  18. 410K admission for Incredibles 2 in Perú, second best of the year just behind Infinity War and best ever for Pixar. Dory Multiplier would get it to 1,8M admissions, surpassing Coco record.
  19. Weekend's Placements: 1.-Incredibles 2 2.- Deadpool 2 3.- Oceans' 8 4.- Hereditary 5.- Avengers Infinity War There was no change at all in positions from Thursday to Sunday for the top 5. Incredibles 2 scored the best Pixar opening of all time according to Deadline, but those records are always in local currency. That means that I2 did at least 1,18M USD (MU OW adjusted), I hope it get closer to 2M USD with actuals. Deadpool 2 held very well, the same as Hereditary, which displaced IW to fifth place. IW should leave most theaters next weekend with Jurassic World 2 release
  20. Maybe the huge opening in the US will induce some hype and curiosity a la Black Panther? Let's hope... If not, well, Pixar really is cursed in China, isn't it?
  21. Deadline: In Australia, the cartoon superheroes scored Pixar’s biggest opening weekend ever and were on par with Dory. This is also Pixar’s best opening in the Philippines, Indonesia, Malaysia, Singapore and Vietnam. In Latin America, which is closely following the Group Stage soccer, Incredibles 2 is the No. 1 film in all markets and tops for Pixar in Argentina, Mexico, Chile, Colombia, Central America, Peru, Ecuador, Bolivia and Paraguay. It opened 35% ahead of Dory in Mexico and 14% above the forgetful fish in Argentina.
  22. It was still making decent money and holding well. Not anymore. I2 didn't open in Brazil so there's that.
  23. Incredibles 2 totally destroyed IW in South America where it was holding well though. Drops over 70%... Will need extra muscle in the other remaining regions.
  24. 3M USD opening for Incredibles 2, just a week earlier and would have been 3,3M... 😥 Your currency is falling so fast that I doubt inflation can catch it, I went to Argentina just 3 years ago and the ER (without cepo) was 1 peso argentino =50 pesos chilenos. Now is 1:22...
