  1. Avatar 2 finally dethroned. That's a really good opening for Puss in Boots 2- If it followed Coco (68k OD - 409 OW) it would have a higher OW tan Avatar 2 , but animated comps are all over the place. Ralph 2 was significantly more frontloaded over its opening weekend. Avatar 2 should increase this weekend considering that for the first time on its run sunday won't be deflated.
  2. Dude, there's is hard data about Japan that says that Avatar didn't do well.
  3. I think you aren't taking into account how quickly ATP falls. It already fell to 5.4 USD last weekend with restrictions on discounts lifted. (-65% drop in gross against -52% in admissions) If it remains steady it would do 17,7 M USD with 3M admission, though it usually keeps falling a bit every week. Avatar the way of water: 3rd Weekend 148.696 (-1.3%), 1.106.786 total. Good hold for New Year. Let's see how Puss in Boots affects it. Goldilocks and the three bears have a porteño accent in the Latin American dub, I think that will play very well.
  4. Excellent performance, but isn't all time top 3 like 4 million admission? I think it will fall a bit short of that
  5. Wildly optimistic prediction for "Rest of Latin America" there. Maybe Jaichind can help with total gross so far but A2 is running far behind Spiderman NWH which did 88.5 in Latin America - México and Brasil. Should be closer to 60M USD IMO
  6. Yeah but Argentina had the exact same conditions and it still fell over 50%. Avatar once again is resonating with Europe while Latin America holds and totals are good but decisively unimpressive compared with the rest of the world
  7. Is a good drop for a Christmas weekend (though the OW was also deflated by the World Cup) but it shows that it isn't defying gravity. History suggests that it will fall even further next week with New Year and after that it could recover a bit, but we'll have to see how Puss in Boots affect its legs, it had decent openings in other latinamerican countries and animation is stronger in Argentina - Chile
  8. 52% weekend drop in admissions. Drop in gross should be higher because Disney lifted restrictions on discounts
  9. Have you seen TGM grosses in Latin America ? Avatar 2 in Latam is nothing more than solid so far, though is doing well considering the terrible release date
  10. Is very well known that in South America Christmas and New Year depress the Box Office, December is a terrible release date for films here and this year is especially awful calendar wise. Very important to keep that in mind for Brasil and the rest of Latam
  11. Great number. Sub 60% drop is very doable over the weekend, maybe even 50 if it has a good jump tomorrow.
  12. Hey! I've come back from the dead to report on this cinematic event. And because I still remember the 3-5 Billie meme. Avatar 2 had a very strong start in Latin America, but in South America specifically, is hard to overstate how absolutely awful the release date and calendar configuration are. Going to the movies in Christmas day or New Year is not something that south americans do (I think Mexico doesn't have that problem), cinemas are either closed or people asume that they are closed. That's why the Christmas-New Year window is one of the biggest blackholes box office wise. On top of that, this year both 24-25 and 31-1 fall on Saturday-Sunday, depressing the most lucrative days. You can check Rogue One holds in South American countries to see what can be expected. It's true that it benefits from Summer Holidays (in fact, it already does), but it faces strong competition from Puss in Boots. Avatar also has the problem that premium formats like IMAX are very rare and that is way too long for kids. This is especially a problem in the southern cone (Chile-Argentina-Uruguay) where most of the business is driven by families, which are likely to prefer the shorter, animated film for a summer movie. Unless WOM it's through the roof, Avatar 2 will lose a lot of its screens to Puss in Boots due to the depressed holds. So, beware if you are expecting out of this world legs in South America, it truly faces an incredible uphill climb! BTW: The Chilean opening is really good $2,345,003, IMAX record. RO multiplier gives 7,3M USD.
  13. Oh, I'm still alive, and genuinely thank you for all the concern. Is just that there's no info anywhere to report. Comscore isn't even doing their daily rankings. Is impossible to keep a thread only with the Disney movie grosses on Mojo.
  14. Last week there was finally a widespread re-opening of Cinemas across the country, and in fact, I went to the Cinema for the first time since March, 2020. Depending on the area the cap is between 100 and 250 assistents, and a Covid pass is needed. The only data avalaible is the one from the press. Fast and Furious 9, with 55k admissions on OW and Black Widow with 50k overall.
  15. Jajajaja, thanks. I've been lurking the China BO thread recently but with BO dead in your own region there's just not the same motivation. Still nice to see that you and many of the regulars are still around!
  16. Hi, just updating to say that: I'm still alive For the first time in 11 months some cinemas reopened in the capital and zones with low COVID infections. Unfortunately there's basically no data to report.
  17. I think @jatvision recopiled a lot of data on Endgame admissions. You can ask him

Ironically, Onwards had an amazing hold considering the circumstances. In normal times it would probably have increased, very sad. Also, ER hit an all-time low, again. Troubling times ahead.

  20. Yes yes, we get it. You think it would have bombed epically neverthless, you made it clear the 10th time you said it.

Onward bombed, and bombed hard. It posted the lowest Pixar opening since the original Cars in 2006!!!!. Even if it follows the standard Pixar multiplier (6x) it is headed to be the lowest grossing Pixar movie since Ratatouille in 2007. Bad release date, poor marketing, and Women's Day protests all played a role in this disaster, though not (yet) Coronavirus Despite bombing, Onward totally destroyed Sonic. The last weekend was somewhat inflated (last weekend of Summer always post solid holds for family fare), but a family movie has no business falling over 60%. The poor holds affected all the top 10 (with the noble exception of Invisible Man), so it could be the effect of Sunday protests which were massive. (At least 800k people in the capital Santiago and a lot of people in all the major cities). Coronavirus has yet to make an impact (the protests make it clear that people don't care about getting into big crowds), but it could put the nail on the coffin on the anemic Chilean Box Office on the coming weeks.
  22. Chile 840 , all time low, 25% devaluation in a year. Colombia also hit all time low at 3700 This is going to be an awful year
