Does @Legion Again have an updated prediction after this trailer?

Also I swear that's been your username for like so. . .so long. Usually you change your username to make it themed as whatever recent film is out, like when Frozen 2 was out your name was "Arendelle Legion" and when DS2 was out your name was "DS2HaterLegionConfirmed"

But now with TTPD it only makes sense I’m Legion again

I’ll change it if there’s something worth changing too.

No updated prediction from the trailer

  2. It’s not like Cavill turns audiences away or something, he just doesn’t draw them to movies they aren’t otherwise interested in, same as 99.9% of modern actors. His low box office performances are just a matter of having signed up for a bunch of bombs to be not causally related to him being in them 🤷‍♂️

It's one thing if $9 billion a year is the new normal and it just requires more luck and work to get people to the theaters, it's another thing if we are in a death spiral due to a superseding technology that phases out this experience during a generation. I think we all could live with the former, but the more I think about it historically and the more I examine my friends attitudes, the more I start to think we are in the latter.

Anyway, this isn't expired by these movies this weekend obviously, it's just gonna be a shitty couple months and I'm bored and bleak.

I mean 9B would be kind of bad still looking at tickets, but not disaster level bad I would say.

But we aren’t even going to get close to 9B, are we?

Oh please, talk about moving goalposts

I will happily talk about moving goalposts. “Moving goalposts” is a phrase used to describe when one set of goals or criteria is initially laid out, but when those initial criteria is met, they are modified to a second set of more difficult criteria on the fly rather than acknowledging that the initial ones had in fact been met.

Keeping that in mind we can see clearly that this is not an example of moving goalposts since the post you’re quoting is not a 2nd more difficult set but indeed the first that I have offered.

Hope that helps with the concept of moving goalposts :)

I am pretty sure there was some pretty good weekends in these last 65 weekends and there will be some good weekends in the next 65. When there are movies out people want to see. I guess the point I was trying to make is it's not that people don't want to go they just need to be motivated to go and the studios are not doing a great job of that on a consistent basis.

Absolutely there were some good weekend and there will be some good weekends, but theaters don’t need “some” they need “enough” and they definitely haven’t been getting that recently.

Also agree that people will go when there are movies they want to see — the entire problem is that people don’t have enough movies they want to see anymore

If MCU dead equate to Hollywood death when the first big Marvel movie didn't come out until 2002, then what is supporting the industry survival in between 1920-2000? That is 80 years old worth of history before first Spiderman came out.

For most of history you had low/mid budget success, nonfranchise blockbuster success, and other mega franchise success ensuring financial viability. If one of those replaced MCU then of course you could be continue to be fine (or at least, continue scraping by better — would really like at least 2-3/4 to actually be doing well), but if you’ve got 0/4…

    EXACTLY, you're 100% correct

Comments like these are exactly why you are the best user on this entire forum

You might be the only one around here with a higher opinion of my opinions than myself :hahaha:   :hahaha::hahaha:

Definitely not around enough anymore to be the best user and I meme/snark too much to be best value/post either, that’d probably be someone like Barnack.

Just want to say that we are doing the theaters are dying and it's all doomed on a weekend when the big new movies are a little girl vampire movie and a Guy Ritchie WW2 movie that the studio basically dumped like they have been doing to most of their movies lately. This is following a weekend where an independent studio had their biggest opening ever and got to almost close to 30 million. Yeah the BO office is not great but people do go when the studios and indies  put some effort into making their movies stand out and appeal to them. I will even say that for The Fall Guy in two weeks. If it does underwhelm that means Universal did not do the marketing job they should have considering they have the goods at least based on the early reviews.

No one is saying the industry has big problems because  of this weekend’s release numbers. It’s a conversation because of the last 65 weekend’s numbers and the what we’re looking at for the next 65 weekends

I had several friends who know I am into box office send me the WSJ article about theaters only surviving due to complicated real estate issues. Not trying to get into another discussion about movies failing blah blah blah but the PERCEPTION from regular people is that the industry is dying it seems.

Normie reasoning: MCU is dead, Hollywood doomed

    Spoiler

    They’re right of course

This is gonna probably be the biggest r rated movie of all time and people will still say Marvel is dead

This may well be the biggest r rated movie of all time and marvel will still be dead.

The strength of the brand is determined by how much it can bolster movies people otherwise wouldn’t see heavily, not by how 3rd entries of pre-existing strong trilogies perform.

Civil War seems to be getting tripped up by people reading way too much into the alliances of the movie and trying to map it to 2024 instead of getting what seems to be the actual point of the movie. Discourse is very, very annoying already, and I work in politics for a living. Just watch the fucking movie for what it is! It's not a documentary about contemporary political alliances from everything I read - it has a different message.

I agree that it’s trying to give a message beyond 2024 partisan stuff, but I think that message rings kind of hollow in light of… 2024 partisan stuff

This isn't the first time Flopped/La Binoche has done some pretentious BS as a way to troll Marvel and Disney fans. Don't worry, I already gave them warning points.

Though there is still truth to the tweet IMO. People claim that they want originality, but they never show up, and are very much the least demanding they've ever been. I know people hate when I say NTCs, but like...I'm not wrong. That's all that people want to see, and it's gotten worse and worse over the decades. And that's not good for anybody!

Getting lots of NTCs is good for the people who enjoy watching NTCs though :)

Well then the question is, do you mean with that

    a) that you dont like the Monsterverse movies and would like to see the movie open on the low end of expectations in which case why are you so mean?

    b) you would like to see an 8, in which case im fully on board!

    c) you generally dislike the number 7.

    Im eagerly anticipating your answer.

You must look inside your heart to find the truth
