It will definitely flop if released in August and September. Might be needed though, as seeing it flop would clear movies out of this year finally.
This is definitely the most stupid thing, the 2 week delays keep theaters in a state of uncertainty. Would have been so much better to just end it and move to next year. If not for Tenet this year, WB might have actually done the delays with their entire slate already.
is it going to flop everywhere or just in the US? it doesn't have a release date for latin america or china yet.

my country isn't mentioned but it's opening in a lot of middle eastern countries so we might just get it

Yeah, it's going to 2021. Anderson's last few movies have done well at the box office and they want this to reach its financial potential, which it wouldn't in the current state of the world (he also doesn't seem like the kind of director that would be on board with a streaming release either).
yeah I think it might screen on TIFF but they ll probably hold on to it after that until theaters are open in the US and searchlight wants this to be an awards movie , but the movie cost 25M to make, so I think it can do well financially on VOD if they decide to go that route

hmm seems like this might make it into this year's Oscar season afterall.
tomorrow there is full Venice/TIFF lineup announcement and Emmy nominations.

“In the event the pandemic continues through the end of 2020 and the beginning of 2021, attendance and operation of the Academy Museum may be adversely affected and the broadcast of the Oscars may be affected, postponed, or cancelled.”
does this mean they're thinking of cancelling the ceremony but keeping the awards event online?
I thought they might consider merging the two years (2020/2021) into one before they consider a virtual event.

with how much this forums talk down on franchise movies, this top 5 feels weird.
I'll put Lords of the Rings and Indiana Jones on my watch list

Did Joker really create more Scorsese fans lmao
I guess so, I saw Taxi Driver because of Joker beforehand when I heard the reviews saying Taxi Driver was a huge inspiration for it. and De Niro was both in that (& the Irishman) which helps with more Scorsese exposure.
I've been discovering more older movies this way, saw Apocalypse Now & The Treasure of the Sierra Madre because of Da 5 Bloods, Saw Citizen Kane because David Fincher is doing a biopic on one of the writers of it this year, same with OG Little Women & Nightmare Alley etc.

This isn't going to any streaming service period because Nolan would never allow it so it's all moot.
the question is would Nolan not allow it because he wants his movie to be profitable or because he wants his movie to be seen on a large screen?
the reason studios are very reluctant to send any blockbuster to streaming/VOD is mostly a financial issue I reckon, if blockbusters could be profitable on digital/streaming I don't see why studios wouldn't do it, like if Netflix were to pay 300M-400M to buy a blockbuster from a studio, would execs still decline?

after some time binging, I finally found a film from the 40s that would go down as one of my all-time favorites, The Treasure of the Sierra Madre (1948). Bogart's character transformation was a sight to behold and it's one of the best looking films (that I've seen) from that era. The restoration looks really good imo.
also the people who said Spike Lee took a lot of influence from this for Da 5 Bloods weren't kidding lol.
rest of the week has been pretty great too

I can see the Batman, spidey 3 and Eternals grossing more than JW3
even WW84 and Black Widow have very good shot at that if they don’t stay in 2020

Disney delayed most of its upcoming slate except for this, seems like it will open in theaters next month
-
Hm so it won’t be eligible for this year’s Oscars, unless it gets cancelled and they merge the two years into one

glad Parasite made it into the list, it's currently my favorite movie of all time but I'm still relatively new to films so it might change in a couple of years or so.

It’s alright. Wouldn’t be notable in normal marketplace, but certainly the biggest in a long time.
Re:Monday I think it will go for more like 120-135ish
how much total is it expected to make now with poor wom? can it double it's 5-day weekend?

counting 2020 and 2021 releases in one ceremony is something i would get behind right now, dunno if it already happened before in the history of the oscars, but 2020 is a relatively weak year for obvious reasons, most of the oscar-baity movies will release in late 2020/early 2021 if they skip theaters, and for those who don't want to skip theaters they would wait even longer and will be ineligible.
with a lot of film festivals cancelled or downgraded to a lesser digital versions without awards, many highly anticipated movies decided to just skip this year's editions. so we would get less output from festival favorites.
films like Parasite and A Separation wouldn't have got as much international attention if they didn't have festivals hype. so this would be another huge blow
and all of this (+ production delays) would further affect 2021 as a domino effect.
so delaying the 93rd Oscars ceremony until like Feb/March 2022 and having the eligibility window open from Jan 2020 until Dec 2021 is a compromise i would be okay with. although outright canceling 2020 might be a bit unfair for movies that do get released this year in one way or the other.

Gravity and A Star Is Born premiered at Venice as well.
both of those premiered out of competition, I guess if Tenet goes there it will probably be out of competition too since it's a blockbuster.
-
Was reading rumors that Tenet might screen at the Venice film festival, if it does then they will probably delay it to September or October and the latter will clash with the release date of WW84

There’s a new egg feature of “pre egg” where it scored 97% — but initial golden egg is just 80. It’s super early, and GA audience could diverge a bit from those attending preview and OD morning shows, but definitely a bad start.
I used google translate and it said "pre egg" was "the expected evaluation before release"
which sounds like it's how much people were anticipating it? maybe it's like the thing RT had for movies pre-release. (before they changed to verified rating)

PAPA NOL∀N'S TENƎꓕ | August 26 internationally. September 2 "in select US cities" | 75% on RT after 228 reviews

this select cities strategy in the US might turn out to be problematic. it kinda sounds like it would indirectly encourage people in major cities (that haven't opened their theaters yet because of high COVID infections) to flock to uninfected areas that have the movie playing.
