  1. Too bad 'City on the Edge of Battle' looks to be a near carbon copy of the first film, box-office wise. I would have thought a better release date and increased exposure from the Netflix release of the prior film would have boosted it (at least a little!). Even with these smaller runs though, I'm sure they're more than making their money back what with Netflix reimbursing them ahead of time and the slew of new merchandising opportunities.
  2. It might not do as well, but the original pulled in $473 million and seems fairly well-received by general audiences, so unless Rock fatigue sets in, I'd put decent money on it at least breaking even. Regardless, it would be more or less in the can fairly soon, so that entry in his (potential) franchise would be off the table anyway, freeing up some time. I did forget to mention in my original post though, that he's in Disney's Jungle Cruise as well, which is a very big deal. In the end, I think Rampage 2 coming out is largely dependent on how he personally feels, as its success (while solid), was not spectacular and the general media doesn't seem too interested in covering it. Less heat = Less chance of a sequel in this case, imo (sadly).
  3. I do hope a sequel comes down the pipeline at some point. Given DJ's insistence on solo franchises, he might consider. Particularly if Skyscraper doesn't work out. He has: San Andreas 2 (lul wut? but will probably perform well), Jumanji 2 (a group picture), Black Adam (who knows if this will really materialize for him given the state of DC movies + shared franchise character), and his F&F spin-off. I think there could be room in his schedule/desires for another tent pole all his own given the moderate success of Rampage.
  4. So, what does everyone think of the film's performance now that its run is largely decided (save a few territories). Are we getting a sequel? Would the Rock want to do a sequel with so much (and honestly, things more successful than this) already on his plate. Thoughts? Also, how is everyone feeling about the glut of monster movies we've been getting recently? Any hopes for it to continue?
  5. Is that China number accurate? I haven't seen much of an update on the INT numbers for Rampage (llikely due to IW'S impending release). If 400m could be achieved, that would be a solid hit, if nothing too incredible. Still not sure of a sequel given the only alright reaction domestically (not to mention it would be Pacific Rim situation, and we all have seen how that story played out), but it's nice to see a monster movie do well outside the Monsterverse. Sequel chances, in your opinion? The Rock loves to keep busy, so I don't know if he'd even have time.
  6. Disappointed 'Rampage' dropped so hard, but not totally surprised, given how overwhelming the competition is (and the loss of IMAX screens surely hurt it). Doesn't look very good for a sequel now. =/ 120 Budget x 2.5= 300, which means it will break even, but not much more. *Shrug* It seems like the new golden age of monster movies is probably over circa 2020 when 'Godzilla vs. King Kong' comes out, leaving only more Japanese properties to continue on afterwards. Anyone else saddened by this? Monster movie fans?
