  1. Well all the people that have been moaning abt CBM popularity should hop to it and boost their genre of choice then. This is the downfall everyone said would restore HW to it's former glory no?
  2. Feel like I mostly saw and still see a ton of really viral tweets about how he was miscast and fearing it might be the 2023 Cats. But you never know. Twitter isn't real life, the theatres are kinda dry and it at least looks Christmassy. Also on the very tiny off chance the strikes end in the next couple of weeks WB will have him everywhere in an instant.
  3. I feel like it's par for the course now for Sony to widen the release many of their movies just before it leaves theatres.
  4. Lol I mean... I thought Chris Pine was popular-ish and it has the dude from Bridgerton everyone wants to be Bond and Michelle Rodriguez. DnD also has a larger budget, more aggressive marketing, pre-pre-screenings to pad the preview numbers, way better reviews and may still not outdo the actual OW or international numbers for Uncharted in the end so... not sure what the point here is? Because of Tom's schedule most likely. The Sony/Marvel machine's had him in the grinder for years and he's famously had to reject other roles for it. He sounded burnt out by the physicality of both roles and said he was taking a break and going to do other things for a while so I don't see a sequel for Spider-man or Uncharted getting into production before 2024 earliest.
  5. Both of these movies relied heavily on nostalgia porn and I feel I can say this about TG esp cos I never saw the first one and thought TG:M was just... fine.
  6. I feel the same. I think what really helped the MCU outside the novelty, is that for the first decade or so it was anchored by really likeable characters played by likeable actors in a world that felt 'real' (it's no coincidence that god-like characters like Thor and the Eternals have struggled the most to find footing, they seem suited for secondary roles). Yes, the worldbuilding was fine and it built up to a great climax but what has kept people invested, in my opinion, even after disappointing releases, is people just really like seeing them interact. I can't think of many memorable, non-aggressive interactions between characters in the DCEU. It's not the aesthetics, or the rating or the CGI at the end. If Gunn can somehow cast a whole new set of actors who people can care about maybe he'd have some luck but I think it might be too late. Batman is Batman, he's a broody little man with issues, it's not enough. The novelty of cinematic universes and superheroes has worn off a lot lately, it's gotten fairly predictable, and a lot of it is getting into 'feels like homework' territory. They should just explore one-offs for a while. Employ some other gimmick. Wish him luck though.
  7. Looks overindulgent and also like a OUATIH rehash but in the... 20s? Probably doesn't help that Pitt is in both. But some people might be drawn to the chaotic nature of it.
  8. I agree, but only in theatres. I haven't been impressed by most releases this year. EEAAO is the first time in ages I was taken on an emotional ride in a mid-tier movie. Too many better options now outside of what gets released to theatres.
  9. Feel like they released this because of the pics of him on set that went viral last week. A lot of weird jokes and comments, like people couldn't do the math of 'actor looking unusual' + set trailer = acting.
  10. RT was the one of the worst things to happen to movies in recent times. As someone said, that and box office numbers became the billboard charts for the chronically online: something you use to validate your tastes (if positive) or pile on someone you dislike (if negative). There are tons of movies I've loved only to find out months later it was either a flop or had bad reviews. I get why the filmmakers would care but let's face it if you're a big Marvel fan something tells me you were going to see their latest offering regardless. People let these numbers dictate their tastes to the point that they feel defensive for enjoying things with a 60% RT score. It's weird.
  11. My thoughts too. It's not his wheelhouse and they didn't give the character enough depth (not sure if lack of range or or poor direction) to make up for it. He didn't have much of a motive for most of the film for me to care either. If they'd had him working towards some tangible personal goal or maybe shown more of his conflict earlier maybe?
  12. Perhaps this is why she's taking a break. Same as how Cameron Diaz pretty much retired in her 40s, Julia Roberts fell off the radar and Reese/Aniston pivoted to TV.
  13. Hm? There's no precedent for this, it's just No Way Home envy. It's not like Batman has ever done 200m OW, and the hype even pre-SVOD date didn't give the vibe that it would IMO.
  14. Social media can be a bubble. Seen mostly praise like you, but I've also seen a notable amount say it was boring or overhyped, they fell asleep or people in their theatre walked out. Worth keeping in mind. Think despite the condescending DC fans saying young people wouldn't like this because they only like MCU jokes, young people (not including kids and under 16s) seem to be the ones that liked it most (might also be because it's the first one to come out that many can remember, I wouldn't be surprised if it's mostly older people who've seen half a dozen Batman movies in their lifetime or loved Bale that may be less enthusiastic, kind of like how people who were kids when the Tobey was Spider-man came out can't warm to Andrew or Tom no matter what). Anyway, per deadline... A heavily male crowd here for The Batman at 67%, with the roaring moviegoing 18-34 crowd repping 62%, per PostTrak. Diversity draw was 41% Caucasian, 26% Latino and Hispanic, 17% Black, and 16% Asian/other. CinemaScore audience diagnostics are showing males at 65%, giving the movie an A-, females a B+ at 35%. Those over 35 repped 31% of the crowd, while those over 50 showed up at 11%. A-s grades largely throughout all demos.
  15. I had a feeling it would do well overseas but I've still been surprised by how WELL it's going. In more than one place it's outdoing even pandemic era MCU properties. I think he's just been unlucky with some of his past non MCU releases. He's talented and people want to see him in all sorts of things, if twitter is anything to go by. His most viral stuff has to do with his dancing and people are ready to see him in lighter non-action fare. If Sony can pull off the Fred Astaire biopic they might hit a goldmine.. as long as it doesn't go too serious in the name of Oscar baiting. Some fans are hoping they get Florence Pugh as Ginger, which would be a great idea for a dozen reasons (acclaimed, MCU adjacent, also a dancer).
  16. In Tom's defence he signed up for Uncharted years ago. Feels like he got unlucky with Chaos Walking (which sounded a lot better on paper - book adaptation, known cast/director - but fell apart) and Sony likely felt like they owed Mark a favor by keeping him in Uncharted even when he aged out of the role of Nathan. Tom admitted himself a year or so ago that he's taken some questionable stuff, and both of his upcoming works are dramatic biopics, so there's at least self awareness and an attempt to put out more complex work.
  17. The lack of options is working out really well for NWH in these later days. But I guess that's what Sony was going for when they moved Morbius. Also gives them space to focus on Uncharted. It would be easier to sell Morbius as a tie-in to NWH and MCU. (which is also why I never thought that Sony/Disney deal wouldn't continue)
  18. There's probably some NDA situation in place but there's a high chance screenings for this (and maybe Morbius) started yesterday based on tweets from a couple of known reviewers.
  19. Gonna go out on a limb and say that to anyone under 21, Armie is more known than Elordi who has literally only notably been in THREE(!) Netflix teen movies and Euphoria
  20. This is exactly what happened after FFH became its highest selling movie and Endgame was a hit. Barely a month after hitting a billion they decided they could take things from there. I think the fan backlash was the saving grace here because based on the rumored movies they were threatening to make (Madame Webb??) those multiverse dollars were going to be made whether Disney wanted to or not. Sony couldn't even finish their trilogy without trying to tag it as Spider-man Endgame even though story wise nothing led up to this really. And it worked. It made all the money, just like Venom, despite not being really good or even properly connected to SM made all the money, and they can now coast on the vague promise that if you watch their spinoffs you might get an MCU crossover (Morbius). It speaks to SM's popularity as a character that that studio gets away with its decisions.
  21. DLU getting a BP nom just because people are forgiving of the filmmakers involved to me is no better than NWH getting one because people like the IP involved. Don't think either movie deserves it but I guess the cast being filled with Academy darlings might help it. No need to pretend like the Oscars are the peak of objective high standard voting.
  22. This sounds like wishful thinking. There's no indication this is happening beyond a few fans wanting it (why do they want it??), and if it was just one quick scene they wouldn't need to move their marketing and release 3 months to a time with MORE competition.
