  1. this film was so gosh darn good, it says something about the decision not to put it in theaters, Disney has great works to spare? Pixar doesn't want to replace Dinosaur as their worst Selling film? They didn't think audiences would like it? I am glad I signed up for disney plus, but sometimes I wonder about the state of theaters to come.
  2. I liked this film overall, but I couldn't get over some of the big issues, which keep it far from the level of the first film, I will not even mention that body swap issue that have so many fans scratching their heads, I liked the integral way Steve comes back to the film. Now leaving aside the fact that she knew him for the first month of her seventy years of her life away from home, I will accept that she is That in love with him, thinking about him often, and such,. How they played Cheetah was fine, but how Wonder woman was getting weaker was not paced well. And I especially hated how using the lasso over a broadcast could overwhelm everyone to give up their wish, That whole thing just passed pleasure and went into disaster film making. And how did a plane parked at a museum have the gas to travel all the way to wherever. It is great that they have a storyline that one can say Stays cannon with the other films, but this is so bad, it should be forgotten,
  3. I enjoyed this, and the film had some guilty pleasures. I think the film would make oodles more if it went pg-13, but I also enjoy and good head-gets-sliced moment. I hope this one gets exposure for halloween.
  4. it is so refreshing to see a new take on the hero genre. This one has graphic sex, violence, nudity, and everything that takes things to the next level. It also has antiheroes, where the characters don't really stand on a moral high ground, they are almost all bad people with powers. There is a lot of room to grow in this universe, and as I type this season two successfully developed things into a more intricate universe. I am looking forward to what comes next,
  5. I did not like this movie, and I can see why it kept getting delayed. The film took forever to get going, and did do a good job (for a while) at keeping me watching the set up. But it kept setting up, and didn't have that big a delivery. It wasn't a super hero film, not really an origin story nor a hero vs villain to save the city kind of film. It wasn't a horror film, despite the set up steering in that direction, It was at best a teens learn to get along and deal with an oppressive teacher kind of teen appeal film. Did I ever really care what the main characters' power was? I don't even care to remember anyone's names. Of course she killer her whole tribe, and deserved to be there. She, like all mutants does grow up and learn to control it, and of course the others help her to do that before the staff slowly and safely let her. Is the second facility designed to weaponize them? will there be a sequel? again, who cares.
  6. This film disappointed me and left me wondering if we can predict which films will be bad based on their getting released on streaming services rather than wait for a theatrical release. the lesser products have come out and make me want to risk exposure just to see a good film theatrically. Keep in mind, that I have not read the books. In the books we have this kid who is a great thief, but in this film he steals nothing, He plays the unsuspecting innocent who is thrust into a world of fantasy and danger who barely makes it through. We see him dance around the principal at school but we do not really see him in the community or with other kids. I can only sense he is cool by his fashion and the amount of exposition given to tell me how genius he is. Better writing would show it. My biggest gripe is that this film is closed and contained. No one but the three humans. the fairy, and the one tall dwarf who are in the secluded household know about and deal with magic and creatures. Nothing escapes to the town, and the fairies can erase memory from the one boater. This limits the jeopardy that we have. not much is at stake, except the dad/criminal who we never get to know, they did a better job developing Judy Dench's character arc, and I cared more about whether she can keep her job and contain the looming disaster. That was the highlight of the film. The eat dirt and... dispel dirt sequence was the,,, low point, and convinced me that this film was not going to get better. At least I was prepared.
  7. Can we start to post for netflix and other streaming films? We won't be in a theater for a while. just sayin' Lots of titles, networks, webpage work Andrew
  8. Please post the hunt. I am worried that people will hunt me, and I must review it before they catch me. Please post this one soon. They're coming....
  9. I enjoyed this film, and knew that i would need to suspend disbelief with the whole invisible technology. I was watching this wondering how she can prove that there is an invisible person, she spilled powder on the floor, paint out of the attic, OR would her sister the cop friend, and his daughter first lose faith in her. then we had one moment where she finds the cell phone in the attic. I thought to myself that I would send all those photos to the cop who can have evidence, caller ID, etc. But she didn't do it. From that point on I couldn't enjoy the film the same way. Seeing an invisible person take out all those security guards was well done, and the whole ending at the house was predictable. This film still gets a good word of mouth from me, and I look forward to seeing more invisible films.
  10. I liked it, but it didn't become as horror film as previews implied, so I understand why opening weekend viewers would be disappointed, The same thing happened to The Abyss by Cameron, The film gave us a good set up for a franchise and We now know what we will get, and it won't be the horror crowd coming out opening weekend I still think that one person's horror fantasy spilling out to the others on the island would be kinda cool,
  11. I went into this film without watching any trailers completely trusting the Pixar brand to give me a solid story for families. I did enjoy this and appreciated the depth to the story as things unfolded, but it was a little incomplete. We needed a small side story of the mom connecting with the flying dragon barlady to get insight into his older son's behavior. The film ended with her on board to help him complete this. Now the film adds that climatic action sequence out of the blue with no dialogue about quests and how they usually end, nor do we see any scenes where the big brother is fatherly, so adding swim lesson flashbacks came out like a cop out and not a fluent motion to a deeper film. Now I did enjoy this film immensely, but sat in the theater not knowing what it was about being critical about what it should be to be Pixar-complete,
  12. I agree with most of what is in the three reviews above, although nothing in the tonal shifts area bothered me. I thought that a little more time with the supporting cast might have been nice. the father who hired him, and perhaps his being absent is symbolic of how helpful he was when his student needed him. Also the student who noted while driving together that he gave a F you to his dad when not advancing, it would be nice to see how that person connects with his family for a moment, I did like the ending where he simply starts to enjoy playing again, as he can surely get a career and happiness jumpstarted from there, I did enjoy this film.
  13. I liked to see any big budget horror film where the cast of characters are barely known and get killed off one by one as they try to escape. It would be more fun if the monster ended on the surface facing the military until retreat. We deserve to see this behemoth stand tall and menacing for one good shot. it is set in the near future, where they have a lot of submersibles. I too was one of three in the theater opening weekend,
  14. I knew that The Good Title of the film referenced that both were liars. I knew she knew and thought she didn't tell her grandson she knew. The film boasts the best acting this year, but that convoluted ending adding an entire event shown in flashbacks after the big reveal in order to explain it was overboard, overkill, and overload on my mystery solving senses. I would enjoy it more if the moment he realized that he didn't have the keypad, she is seen boarding a plane to vacation with her grandson and his fiance. Boom, end. And who uses those kind of keypads anyway?
  15. in all fairness, I was half asleep when seeing this. the accent that D Craig used was more annoying then not and the subposition to establish the whole crime was cool, but not that any detective could find it, rather the detective recites the cool premise of a plot from the script, they were making a cool story resolution, without setting it up.
  16. I enjoyed this film. the trailers ruined something in that I expected the theme of dirty cops to be the ones that killed all the cops in the very beginning. It turned out that dirty cops was merely into the forefront after the bad sharpshooter was killed. The actual depth of the film was hidden and made seeing the film a surprise. I would have sold the film as Chadwick does cop film in new york and all I know about the story is that they close 21 bridges. I am coming to hate trailers and overspoiling of a film. this one was less enjoyable because of the deceptive trailer. still a great film
  17. like the Alien franchise, every new installment needs to add something to the mythos, the idea of a super enhanced human that gets drained standing up to a robot for so long, is this films major revelation. that the robots can split into two is another. Those are risky additions to the terminator canon universe, and it detracts from the film keeping par with the first two amazing films.
  18. It was a tough story to tell, and they kept going back to the painting as if it represented the heart of the film. I found that emphasis to be the source of why it didn't work for me. I get it, and didn't have to have it spelled out for me. Focus on the characters and show don't tell. Still great acting, great story. Won't win any awards.
  19. gosh I am the poor soul that could only find One film that would start and end before work that day. I call this a macho comedy, in the same vein as Tooth Fairy was. Put a guy with big muscles in a funny situation...frolic ensues. Half of the laughs were added/forced, seeing all the macho men dance, or serving Spamekfast (spam quisine). Half are expected/situational, use a firehose to make bubbles fill the room, kid flies in air but won't let go of hose. And as I drove home I thought about THE (spoiler alert.....awe, no one will see this or even read this) WEDDING at the end. She was his therapist from a childhood trama. That is so uncool. "From the drive home, it now occurs to me I liked the film even less and less with each passing day. Pretty soon I will hate it, but not before its DVD release.
  20. I didn't know the story that this film was based, and so I enjoyed it more. I know that this film did an impressive job capturing the southern accents, the acting was spot on. I just found the film to drag on a bit too much without really raising the stakes. And it didn't really have the sports' victory ending that makes this sort of film satisfying. It was a well crafted work, and I did enjoy it.
  21. They have youth coming of age in every country at every time. This one is hard to do but it was done with risk.
  22. I gave this a B and I was hoping to score it higher. I really felt let down. First of all this film follows a superhero formula, as a child discovers powers and evil power people come, and the classic showdown. I suspect that Shiners (fans of original) and Horror fans, would not like that. I liked Firestarter, and Dead Zone, so I am okay with it, but I didn't expect it. Second, it was a bit long and wasn't paced perfectly. I felt it could be shorter but also needed more in some areas to explain certain things. We are led to assume that the evil hotel works better on shiners and will affect the bad girl more than our heroes. Why? we conveniently move locale to the hotel but it is only of convenience that we go there, the previews said we go there, the fans will expect it. But wouldn't the evil force there make it the worst choice? I never bought the connection, and releasing the boxes for an epic showdown was more of a cinematic letdown. I see what they wanted to do, but it just didn't work for me. Now the baseball boy stuff was dishearteningly amazing and the cast was incredibly amazing as well. It all added up to a B. I really wish it earned an A.
  23. I think this was a risk taking venture that came together and became a memorable film. I agree with the review above that there are hints of Wes Anderson merged with Life Is Beautiful. I think the comic use of Hitler is the initial draw to see this film, and the dramatic themes override the comic ones. Still, with heart at its core, this film will make people leave the theater with a dance step in their heart. I bet it will be on the wildcard list for an oscar nom for best picture or director. I would also consider best supporting actor or best screenplay as well.
  24. I was glad to see that J Cameron was involved with this production. He really knows how to build an action movie. This one delivers. The story line is easy to just go with it,better than Salvation or the TV show. The action and effects were great. And the superfight choreography was top notch. I agree that this is a gift to the fans.
  25. cute at best. I would have been better as a pg 13 film since its audience will be mostly teens who read reviews like this on their phone. Again, Wanda Sykes was the best part of the film.
