  1. I will be in the theatre for A3, I just hope the film is better. I recall Cameron saying he and his writers overwrote the script for A2, so it was split into two movies (ATWOW and A3). That worries me. Perhaps it would have been better to trim the script down for a single movie instead?
  2. Watched the film last Thursday but never posted my thoughts, so here they are. Thanks for reminding me @interiorgatordecorator The good: The visuals. The landscapes, water, and the creatures looked amazing. But what stood out to me the most was the CGI characters. The facial capture, the skin, and hair. A big step up from the first movie. The performances. I was concerned about the kid actors going in but I think they gave good performances only exception being Champion a.k.a spider (performance was inconsistent). Lang, and Saldana were my standout adult performances. The bad: The plot. Multiple times during the movie I thought "huh?" or "what?". The script was messy, kinda dumb, too many plot conveniences and logic issues. ATWOW is James Cameron's worst script which is shocking considering he had a writers room and 3 years! The characters. There are way too many characters in the movie and most of them are not developed well enough. Certain characters just disappear from the movie. I understand the characters probably have a role to play in A3 but their inclusion hurt ATWOW. The dialogue. The dialogue in this movie is terrible, so terrible that I found myself enjoying it. "Get up buttercup!" "I am not your buttercup you perv!". Blue aliens said those lines. I was expecting a sequel on the level of Aliens and T2. Instead I got what I think is James Cameron's worst movie. I have always thought of Cameron as a better version of George Lucas. Like Lucas, Cameron is a tech geek, but his stories have well developed characters, are coherent, well structured and paced. In ATWOW I think he went off the rails. I rate the movie 6/10.
  3. I have yet to see ATWOW, but I agree with you. My expectation was that ATWOW would be a masterpiece sequel which is why I made some big box-office predictions. Never did I think this movie could be a disappointment quality-wise considering JC has spent 7 years(3 on scripts) working on it. If JC cannot deliver a great movie with that much time, he is not as good a director as he used to be. I will watch the film on Thursday.
  4. I am really curious what the tomato-meter rating will be. I have seen a fair amount of reactions criticizing the story and characters. If I had to guess, I would say it lands between 70% and 85%.
  5. Some info from Jim's presentation at Digital Day 2022, an event held by the Directors Guild.
  6. It seems that ILM has come on board to help WETA finish up on the vfx. They did not have avatar on their projects page in June. Same thing happened back in 2009 with the original avatar. https://www.cnet.com/culture/ilm-steps-in-to-help-finish-avatar-visual-effects/ I recall some posters having a discussion on whether A3 could be moved up to December 2023. I think it is impossible, WETA needs all the time they can get.
  7. There will be an avatar story on the June 9th issue of empire magazine. https://www.empireonline.com/movies/news/avatar-2-the-way-of-water-aquatic-creatures-include-tulkuns-skimwings-ilu-exclusive/ In another article, Sigourney and Jim talk about sci-fi, filmmaking and avatar. Here is an interesting exchange. https://www.documentjournal.com/2022/06/sigourney-weaver-james-cameron-anniversary-issue-20-film-avatar-science-fiction-environmentalism/
  8. Stumbled upon this interview of a pre-vis artists and animator who worked on avatar 2 and 3. He shares some info on the technology used(timestamped) and add him to the list of people who consider Jim a genius.
  9. Personally, It is not concerning. Like most of Cameron's movies, I think pre release hype will be almost irrelevant to A2's success and word of mouth will be the key. His filmmaking style lends itself well to this situation.
  10. He will definitely try some new things. Here is a quote of him talking about avatar 2 and sequels in general. "I think you have to create this dynamic equipoise between the audiences expectations and the element of surprise. How do you give them what they want, but still take them somewhere they didn’t expect. It’s a tricky piece of business. I’m doing it again now with Avatar 2. I think I’ve found that balance. I may lose some people in the curves, [but] I may gain others. We’ll have to see." https://www.rollingstone.com/movies/movie-features/james-cameron-interview-tech-noir-avatar-movies-1261926/
  11. This. Universal themes are the reason his movies resonate with so many people and are popular. I don't see him deviating from this approach.
  12. I meant tweets or YouTube videos. When I paste the embed code it only shows the code and not the tweet or YouTube video.
