  1. "Yeah, no one remembers those losers. And to make sure no one remembers them I'm going to bring them up in every single thread whether it's relevant or not!"
  2. Since it's the 85th they might bring someone special for anniversary. Joan Fontaine is still kicking, so maybe they'll wheel her old ass out.
  3. No idea. Looking through the list of presenters and they usually get some big respected name to present it but no one jumps out this time. Maybe Nicole Kidman? Liam Neeson? Maybe it's a secret...
  4. Jane Fonda (apparently still alive?) and Michael Douglas are presenting Best Director together.
  5. For me 2012: Django Unchained 2011: Moneyball 2010: 127 Hours 2009: Up 2008: Slumdog Millionaire 2007: There Will Be Blood 2006: The Departed 2005: Good Night and Good Luck 2004: Sideways 2003: Lord of the Rings 2002: Lord of the Rings 2001: Lord of the Rings 2000: Gladiator 1999: American Beauty 1998: Shakespeare In Love (come at me bros!) 1997: LA Confidential 1996: Fargo 1995: Babe 1994: Forrest Gump (though it's a tough choice!) 1993: The Fugitive 1992: Unforgiven 1991: JFK 1990: Goodfellas 1989: Field of Dreams 1988: Mississippi Burning 1987: Broadcast News 1986: Hannah And Her Sisters 1985: Witness 1984: Amadeus 1983: The Right Stuff 1982: Tootsie 1981 Raiders of the Lost Ark 1980: Raging Bull etc, etc, etc.
  6. Benjamin Button is just an all-round awful movie. I actually like Slumdog more than I did when I first saw it since I didn't catch it until after it won everything and I got to be a part of the cool backlash crowd that every BP winner gets.
  7. Some people are crazy! 13 nominations or not there was never a point where it seemed like it could win to all reasonable people.
  8. Why isn't supporting actress locked? Definitely is. Slumdog Millionaire was also definitely a big lock for BP. Won everything and I'm pretty sure nobody predicted anything else.
  9. Yes. I will be upset when DDL wins easily.
  10. I know in my head but I've always found it difficult to describe. Someone like numbers could probably explain it well to you. At any rate I think Les Mis easily has the best sound mixing out of the nominees and Django easily has the best sound editing - just listen to the way the gunshots sound during the big shootout! It's incredible! Won't win though.
  11. Life of Pi a lock in visual effects, Adele a lock in song imo. Les Mis probably a lock for sound mixing.
  12. My first prediction! Surprisingly not awful. I'm counting Phil Hoffman as a plus since he got still got a nomination just in a different category. And John Hawkes got very, very close.
  13. Loads of people were calling her ever since she got Sundance raves, it wasn't until near the end of the year when the competition looked too strong that people started to take her out.
  14. The show currently has about 35 presenters and 17 performers. It sure seems like it'll still be going when I wake up on Monday morning, so not a big deal that I'm missing it.
  15. What's up with the review forum? It keeps presenting threads in alphabetical order instead of most recent posts. And I change it and it just goes back to alphabetical whenever I come back.
  16. Pretty dull, and an odd one. To me it felt like three different movies stuck together. None of them were particularly good.
  17. Oh, in 30 years we'll see what the film nerds w/ blogs are putting in their "worst oscar snubs" list.
  18. Yeah, yeah, what a shame, whatever. We're talking about PTA here! How good is Inherent Vice gonna be guys?!?
