  1. After watching Endgame, I'm also really glad that it's looking like it won't beat Avatar, I thought Endgame was quite terrible, unfortunately.
  2. The funny thing is, back when everyone was acting like Endgame over Avatar was a lock, I told you guys that it was far from certain. Avatar just made an astonishing amount of money, even if you take inflation out of the equation. And it's almost as if superhero movies don't have the reach that some people think they have. Anyways, we are not out of the woods yet, but it's looking less and less like Endgame will make it there.
  3. First of all, you cant tell me that that a quote like "The exchange rate is the only reason EG isn't crushing Avatar's WW record beyond recognition." isnt an emotionally charged statement, so stop acting like you didnt have an agenda when you posted it. And that you seem to be personally attacking me for replying to a specific part your statement gives me the impression that your post was made in bad faith. Second of all, I didnt have an agenda with my post. I merely recognized that it is disingenous and pointless (which it is) to bring up exchange rate differences when comparing EG and Avatar without considering other factors aswell.
  4. If you adjust for inflation, Endgame hasnt even beaten Titanic yet. Your argument is void. If you want to considere things like exchange rates and inflation, Endgame doesnt stand a chance of even hoping to reach Avatars gross. MUCH more people went to see Avatar than Endgame, even if Endgame could technically make more money in the end. Of course, that doesnt diminish Endgames achievement (especially if it manages to take the crown from Avatar), but if you want to bring these kinds of analytics into the discussion, theres no doubt that Avatar was and always will be the bigger film. Infact Avatar and Titanic are the only movies of the last >30 years that would land a slot in the top 5 of highest grossing films adjusted for inflation.
  5. Godzilla. Also, Im not Jim Gang. But celebrating early is never a good idea. As I said, it certainly can happen, but it hasnt happened yet, yet people act like it. Its not a lock and I like to point out that Im going to be one of the people that is going to watch Endgame most likely this WE and will contribute to its sales, btw. I wouldnt be surprised if it doesnt cross that threshold. And then all the people celebrating early will feel pretty fucking stupid.
  6. Why is everyone talking like Endgame has surpassed Avatar WW? It hasnt yet and Im not convinced it will. Theres a bunch of big movies coming out that will cut off Endgames legs and Marvel movies are not known for having great legs in the first place. It could happen that Endgame surpassed Avatar WW, but its way too early to celebrate.
  7. Both Resetera and r/movies currently have top threads trending about the Avatar movies getting moved. Do your research first before trying to make a jab at another forum member.
  8. Avatar is so irrelevant that the news of the sequel getting moved makes the internet go crazy. Can´t you see it, guys?
  9. I dunno, I still cant see Endgame beating Avatar. I believe it when I see it.
  10. Without trying to make a box office prediction, I literally cant imagine a single person that qualifies as a movie goer of any kind that would say "You know what movie Im going to skip? Avatar 2." Like I literally cant see that happening. I think everyone will see this movie, no matter if they liked the original or not. There is also a subgroup of people who regretted that they didnt see the first Avatar in the cinema, which probably is a very large casual audience, that will also definitely go to see this one.
  11. Actually, we do know. The process of how designs are created and translated to CGI on big blockbuster movies is well documented. Theres no reason to assume the CGI artists where any more involved in the design of Sonic than they were in any other production. In other words, they werent involved.
  12. This isnt a CGI issue, the design is just terrible. The CGI artists dont create the design most of the time, they get handed the finished design and then they translate it to CGI. Its the fault of the people that designed Sonic this way (and the ones that approved this), not the CGI artists.
  13. Not a single second of the first Avatar movie was shot with IMAX cameras.
  14. Like the Sonic design is so bad, I could never see myself watching this movie because of it. I simply do not want to look at that monstrosity for an hour and a half.
  15. Man, the trailer actually looks alittlebit of fun seeing how it doesnt take itself seriously at all. Jim Carry looks like he´s having a blast, but its all ruined by the terrible terrible Sonic design.
  16. Except that starring in a Rolex ad has nothing to do with artistic purity, its not affecting his art if he makes money by starring in this ad.
  17. God, I remember when this thread first popped up. Its such an incredibly stupid sentiment and shows how limited reddits (and of large parts of the internet in general) view on culture actually is. Whats so aggravating about reddit to me is that the people there so happily cultivate their incorrect assumptions like its some sort of badge of honor.
  18. Did people seriously expect this movie to be some bombastic action movie finale? Thats not Nights deal at all and not the impression I got from the trailers, either. I havent seen the movie yet, but if thats supposed to be the "bait and switch" people are talking about, then ooooh boy. From the trailers and the movies this is a sequel to, I fully expect this to be a slow, methodic and emotional drama.
  19. The way Paramount has handled their franchises has been really weird in general. The Transformers franchise could be in a very different position now if they changed their strategy after the completion of the first trilogy. Both with Star Trek and Transformers Paramount has these incredible juggernauts of movie franchises, they just dont seem to plan far ahead enough and dont know what do to with them after the first couple of movies.
  20. I shit you not, the third (or was it fourth?) time I saw Avatar in the cinema, there was a guy bragging in the front seats saying he could see that the dragon-creatures in the movie where just bats in a costume. Come on people, how disconnected can you be from media.
  21. As a filmmaker myself, this is not true. Having a large audience is a great feeling, but whats more important is that your movie is watched by the right audience, because only they will be able to properly appreciate it. If you make a movie purely to generate money your statement might hold true (and even then its debatable), but artists hold other things in higher regard. Though money is great to have, too.
  22. This is spot on. Anyhow, Im not sure when I will actually get around to seeing this movie. Unbreakable is a great movie, but I havent seen Split yet.
