  1. Well, he at least he holds the world record for the quickest recovery from a debilitating spinal cord injury in Downton Abbey. (Less than one full episode.)
  2. That's a great lineup. Action 1, Kingdom Come, Whatever Happened to the Man of Tomorrow, All Star Superman, Superman for All Seasons, peak Silver Age goodness from Superman Annual 6... I'll take it!
  3. Here's a little Dune update from my non-PLF theater in Salt Lake. Saturday 1:20 PM. 562 tix sold for remaining screenings. Sunday 1:20 PM. 449 tix sold for remaining screenings. 20% drop as of now. May make up some ground this afternoon as yesterday was already at 80% of capacity when I did the count. Either way, great hold.
  4. Crazy weather day in Salt Lake City with high winds and winter weather advisories in effect, but the spice is flowing at my non-PLF theater. Here what it looks like at the Cinemark Sugarhouse. Screenings left between now and 10:15 PM: 13 Total available tickets: 709 Seats sold as of 1:20 PM MST: 562 (79.3%) I don't have an exact comp from yesterday, but I would guesstimate we're looking at a 25% bump already. Morning shows were very busy as well.
  5. Early audience score numbers are in on RT. 95% with 100+ verified. Top of the first inning but still a good start.
  6. If the combined budget for films one and two was only $100M, that's pretty much a guaranteed profit. I don't know what the ceiling is for this, but the floor is high. Plenty of boomers out there who will make this one of the two or three movies they go to this year.
  7. Right, but they can still make a decent, or at least not totally incompetent film. They're pissing away their own brand when they release stuff that just becomes an Internet punch line. That doesn't do anybody any good in the long run.
  8. This is going to totally collapse after Presidents Day and it's already floundering overseas (France) so I would be shocked if this gets anywhere near $200M. I hope it doesn't... that would just encourage Sony to keep churning out more cynical cash grabs like this.
  9. A scene of the future Superman flying, but not of his own volition, through a tornado would bring the house down. I think this movie is going to be huge. It's nostalgia, it's Powell, it's dumb dinosaur-type VFX fun that like the Jurassic movies, will be largely review proof.
  10. I'm guessing that reported figure of $205M includes the 30% UK tax credit, but if by some miracle it doesn't, then this is going to be a lot less of a disaster than initially thought. The fact that they only spent a few hundred dollars on marketing helps too.
  11. Salt Lake City Sugarhouse Cinemark (non PLF) midday report: Wonka 213 Migration 189 Boys in the Boat 146 (!!) The Iron Claw 80 Ferrari 79 Aquabro 63 The Color Purple 29 Anyone But You 29 Ho to the 3rd!
  12. That was a lot better than I thought it was going to be. Sloppy, goofy, and a whole lot of fun. Scattered clapping at the end in my screening. On to the Gunnverse! 3 tridents out of 4.
  13. Tis a sad time for an Atlantean when the kingdom is in such rubble, but the way WB has treated this I have zero expectations going in, so at least I can't be disappointed. At the very least, it promises some good eye candy. R.I.P., DCEU, and thanks for WW, Shazam, BOP, The Suicide Squad, ZSJL, Flash, and Blue Beetle. And here's to the DCU. I am eager to see what James has up his sleeve for my all-time favorite pop culture character. (And his cousin, too... Supergirl: Woman of Tomorrow is insanely cinematic.) Happy Holidays everyone!
  14. Yeah, I was surprised too. They're running a full set for both Indy and Elemental and that's 11 screens right there. Elemental I can get because it's kids and it's been holding so well, but Indy...
  15. 10 showings at the Salt Lake Sugarhouse Cinemark between now and 10:00 PM for Barbie, with a total capacity of 678 seats, and there are only 39 left as of 2:50 PM MST. For Opp there were 228 seats available and a grand total of 16 remain unspoken for. Insane!
  16. Merry Christmas, Eric. You truly are someone who makes a difference. Wishing you all the best in '23! P.S. Dune and Wonka coming out within two months of one another? If the last three months of this year was challenging, then the Fall of '23 is going to be 😁🏆🎉👌
  17. Buffalo is nuts right now. 10 degrees with heavy snow and blowing snow, updated forecast currently calling for winds up to 75 mph tonight, with a storm total by Sunday of 31-49 inches. Brutal wind chills as well. This is one for the record books.
  18. Here are some current weather reports around the country as of 5:00 AM MST. Portland, 19, freezing rain. Cleveland, 2, blowing snow, wind chill -17 South Bend, -7, heavy snow, wind chill -32 Pittsburgh, 18, heavy snow, wind chills forecast to be at or below zero through Sunday Milwaukee, -7, blowing snow, wind chill -32 Chicago, -8, blowing snow, -30 wind chill, WC forecast to remain below zero through Sunday Buffalo, 37, blizzard warning in effect, 25-41 inches of snow by Sunday, wind chills below zero through Sunday Box office is going to take a major hit today.
  19. Salt Lake Valley preview night update for Avatar 2: The Way of Water. Cinemark Sugarhouse (SLC, non-PLF) 327 (+82 😃) Cinemark Draper XD 356 (+36 🤨) Cinemark Farmington XD 445 (+61 🤷‍♂️) Total Tix Sold: 1128 (+179), increase of 18.9% from yesterday. Final comps: Nope 375% Black Adam 304% B.P. Wakanda 92.5% Final Comps, Sugarhouse only: Elvis 340% JW: Dominion 89.8% The Bat 77.7% Thor: L&T 65.4% Sugarhouse Friday presale is 117% of preview night. Sugarhouse Saturday presale is 119.6% of preview night. Not a bad day given the terrible weather here in the valley. (The sun finally came out about 45 minutes ago and the streets are starting to clear, so walk ups shouldn't be hindered much if at all.) With the weekend still looking strong and the ATP premium not accounted for in any of my comps, I'll go with 18/153.
