  1. For sure. Have no idea about the box office for Snow White though. It won't get nearly as much backlash as TLM but not sure it will get as much hype either, at least not domestically. Why assume Saturday will jump that much especially if that Friday number sticks? At the moment, I would say 85-86M should be the expectation. Maybe even a little lower if Sat has a soft jump as well.
  2. Forgot this was still the weekday thread. Lol Nevermind.
  3. I absolutely do not buy that about Nolan. He was on his way to becoming big and I don't think it really matters if Inception came before or after. Coogler may not be directing other movies right now but he is producing. Either way, it reads as disingenuous to me to say he should have ditched Marvel. He is not just another Marvel director regardless because Black Panther was not just another Marvel movie. People who aren't that into Marvel movies know who he is.
  4. Nolan still made 3 Batman movies. Why should Coogler ditch Marvel/Black Panther after one? He has already made name for himself anyway. "From director Ryan Coogler" is a thing.
  5. Who cares about originality vs IPs? Really? The very reason Hollywood keeps pushing remakes, sequels, prequels of well known properties is because of how much they make. So many original ideas never even get made or the movies end up flopping. Peele creating original movies that gross over 100M DOM is a huge accompliment. Given all the movies that have made over 1B (some of them not very good) a Barbie movie making a Billion is noteworthy sure but it's hardly as special or different as some of you want us to believe.
  6. I'm just applying the same logic. Lol Peele is making original movies with lesser known Black actors. I wouldn't expect him to do huge numbers overseas, just as I wouldn't expect a movie like Lady Bird to be a huge hit either. Little Women is a well known property. If it didn't do more than fine, that would be a problem.
  7. Exactly. I think Coogler is also in the conversation but I would not give him any edge over Peele either.
  8. How much did Lady Bird gross overseas? Most people overseas will still have no idea who she is, even after Barbie. Not sure how that's a compelling argument.
  9. No sorry. Barbie had insane hype and promo even before reviews came out. That's not even half due to Greta. That's all the Barbie brand and the stars of the movie. I'm not saying she doesn't deserve any credit, of course she does but take away the name and this movie doesn't come close to making even half as much, no matter how good it is.
  10. I'm not sure how Greta has the advantage over Peele when he's making original movies. Her last movie was a remake of a very popular property (there was even a korean remake recently) and now a Barbie movie. When she makes original movies that gross more than his, I might agree.
  11. Considering it has stronger weekdays than TDK it could have softer jumps on the weekend and still come in under 90. But I don't know where the 70M comes from, lol 80M would have been more reasonable.
  12. Lol 70M would only be possible if Fri/Sat have very soft jumps but not even I would expect them to be that soft. I would agree that 85M is probably the floor right now.
  13. You're right. Though I still wouldn't say 90M is locked. Could come up a bit short.
  14. If it does 20M and then has a similar second weekend to TDK then I would say 85M, not quite 90. Lol
  15. Gitesh might not actually be that far off if Fri/Sat jumps are on the softer side. Not impossible especially as Barbie has been stronger than expected on weekdays. Could see the effects of that on the weekend.
  16. That's exactly what happened with TDK. I'm pretty sure its second Friday number was below the first Monday by over a million.
  17. Depending on what Friday's number is, it could even go lower than that imo. So predicting 100M seems a bit too optimistic to me. Not saying it can't go that high but at the moment, I don't think 90M is the floor either.
  18. Lol Their movies are overall no worse than any others. In fact, I'd say they have more good ones within the last year than WB. I guess we're supposed to forget about their flops and bad movies because Barbie is such a hit.
  19. Call me a Disney apologist if you like but why is it a problem for them to be "petty?" WB has pulled *a lot* of shenanigans over the years. Haven't people been talking about how they were being petty towards Nolan? What they did with the Batgirl movie still seems very bizarre. I get it that it's a lot more fun to dunk on Disney than WB but all these big studios are ran by the same kind of people.
  20. I mean I think a nearly 20M difference is pretty big for someone who analyzes box office numbers and was aware of capacity limits. I'd think it would be wise to follow the pros who show a bit more caution rather than going big and risk overselling. But I'll let it go now and let others have their fun. 😁
  21. Nah I remember more than one but still, even if it was just one person, there were ppl annoyed that someone dared say they were disappointed.
  22. I know HM is taking away some screens yes? But still, that definitely seem too low.
  23. I'm not going to call anyone out but lets just say there's a pattern. Lol Not many were predicting that but it was thrown out there.
  24. Sorry but I don't see how some can throw out these huge numbers so early on in the day. Sure they may be right occasionally but it creates a setup for disappointment when the numbers don't come to fruition. First there was talk of 180M-200M OW, then a 30M Monday, now a flat Wednesday (which seems very unlikely). You can think calling that out is being negative but then don't complain when some come to the thread and say they're disappointed with otherwise great numbers (exactly what happened over the weekend) just because the insanely high number didn't happen.
  25. From everything I've read about Greta recently, she seems to really like the idea of doing big studio/franchise stuff and her recent projects reflect that. So even if she doesn't do another Barbie movie, I can see her doing another big budget movie connected to a franchise. I get the comparisons to Nolan but I don't think they really fit, considering Nolan's filmography outside of The Batman trilogy.
