  1. Venom's bumps in the week before release were weird, there was a strange bump on the Thursday before release that didn't seem to be prompted by anything at all, so no point in comparing. As far as Eternals, my impression of the reason review bumps happen is (usually) because both reviews get people aware of the film and good reviews may drive people to buy a ticket. Eternals reviews, despite the RT score being okay for now, were not covered particularly positively in media headlines (MCU being a victim of its own past success there). And, being a hyped MCU movie, it already had fairly high awareness and a lot of fans had already bought tickets, so not much bump for that reason either.
  2. BW was disappointingly weak in the climax but quite good before that so overall that added up to decent for me. CM I thought was quite enjoyable the whole time, other than a couple slow patches at the beginning and the ending action was a highlight for me. For me CM was middle range MCU which is pretty good.
  3. Eh. If it isn't working properly, they had better reshoot. This movie is pivotal to the MCU narrative. It must come out well. If there's some issue here, then better that they take more time.
  4. Dark World didn't have particularly bad reviews though? It was just meh/mixed reviews. 66% on RT and 53 on Meta. Eternals is above that so far, but not by much.
  5. I don't think being a studio movie would be a particular issue for critical reviews. AOU got 75% with arguably bigger challenges and more meddling (I expect NWH to be higher). That said, in terms of my personal enjoyment, I agree with you on the quick production and big scale being a point of concern.
  6. I would be more shocked at bad reviews for NWH than Eternals. Watts has already demonstrated the ability to get good reviews twice, and I would assume Feige and others would be more hands-on in a big event movie like this. Now that might not be good for those who want a singular vision for these things, but it does usually ensure a critical floor for them. That said, I didn't like the NWH trailer, but I'm definitely in the minority there. Critics also won't be immune to the excitement of the cameos and callbacks.
  7. I definitely believe in world premiere bias and it has been demonstrated many times. But that applies to every big franchise (or almost all).
  8. Huh, that's a bit strange. Would have expected these early reviewers to have been on the higher end for BW, whose embargo drop date was not that different.
  9. There was a bump on Monday of this week for BW MTC2. Don't know about 1.
  10. My Hero Academia MTC2 Friday Subbed Showtimes: 580 Subbed Seats Sold: 11038/86462 Subbed $ Sales: 153719 Dubbed Showtimes: 708 Dubbed Seats Sold: 19190/100683 Dubbed $ Sales: 273833 Combined Showtimes: 1288 Combined Seats Sold: 30228/187145 Combined $ Sales: 427552 Dubbed occupancy better than subbed, subbed purists in shambles.
  11. Eternals MTC2 I took numbers yesterday but somehow, despite thinking I had posted them, I hadn't posted them. So the pace mentioned below is 24 hours (closer to 23). Thursday Showtimes: 1956 Seats Sold: 31334/318716 (+1466) $ Sales: 445658 (+20200) Friday Showtimes: 3719 Seats Sold: 23014/622000 (+1231) $ Sales: 309514 (+16739) Review bump is nothing much so far. I guess people won't check into news as much on weekends though, so weird choice to drop embargo on a Sunday. Guess it couldn't be helped with the Rome festival but I don't think I've ever seen a weekend embargo drop before. Let's see if tomorrow is better, I'd have liked to see a bigger bump (also the review being mixed probably didn't help).
  12. It was a lower gap earlier. I should've checked before posting. Still I don't really see much of critics "going easy" on the film like what's described in that tweet.
  13. Nope, if this was at play you'd expect a bigger-than-usual disparity between top critics and all critics (given top critics are in more secure positions) which isn't the case here.
  14. I mostly objected to the phrasing "toiling away." The rest of your comment is fine even if I disagree on the merits of MCU films and such.
  15. This is kinda making it sound like she's slaving away for evil Marvel...she came in and pitched the movie! She wanted to make this.
  16. Anyway before I shut up I think people are overanalyzing the reviews, sometimes a movie just doesn't quite come together the way you want (or in this case, at least doesn't come together for the critics, no idea how my opinion of it will be).
