I'm still not sure this is going to do anywhere near the business I would like it to do, simply because it's Dune... but I'm glad Warner Brothers is giving it the big December slot... if it'll ever break out, it'll do it there.... however its also up against Spielberg and West Side Story. There shouldn't be a lot of audience overlap there, but Dune is definitely not going to have the same free run on the day that a Star Wars or an Avatar might have...

editing to add: Looks like the Uncharted movie and Coming To America 2 are also scheduled for that day. I don't think either of them should be significant competition there but you never know...

West Side Story should do well, but it shouldn't take away much business from Dune. Completely different genre. I think Uncharted will blink, and Coming to America 2 will flop.

I'd put the baseline for 2021's Batman at about Suicide Squad's level, $130-ish million OW.  From there if the trailers are great add 10-20m, if the reviews are great add another 10-20m, 180 tops, but more likely 140-150.

Yep. Would be a great opening for a post-BvS DCEU film.

As the stable genius who boldly and correctly informed all of you of JURASSIC WORLD's impending ERUPTION back in June 2015, believe me, I will tell you, this is about to explode in similar style, no doubt.. $25m previews signals $250m opening weekend..

Star Wars 9 aside, this is the biggest opening we will have until 2021's THE BATMAN, no doubt, so enjoy it while it lasts..

Will The Batman even come close? I feel like the damage done by Batman v. Superman could hinder its OW.

It is a big achievement because it's far more difficult to achieve than one would think, and it gets all the more difficult with each and every movie that's added.

Perhaps the idea isn't too complicated or revolutionary, but actually doing it is.

The writing room does a great job of making sure the continuity makes sense. I also appreciate that while the movies do tie in together, many are separate enough that I can pick and choose which to go see in theaters and not feel completely lost for the big team-up films. As for the Endgame v. Avatar nonsense, a win's a win, guys.

Not really i am just so tired of seeing so much cheering for a monopoly like Disney. It is bad for the movie business as a whole. People should cheer for other studios to be successful as well.

Disney isn't a monopoly. They're the clear top dog, but there are still noteworthy competitors. If you're uncomfortable about their dominance this year in particular, they are probably just pushing their big titles this year to fatten their Disney+ catalog before launch. Universal or WB have a chance of outgrossing them next year.
