there was one that opened Friday that’s like the best reviewed studio film of the year so far?

That's kinda my point. If NWH comes out after ATSV it would not get the same reviews it did. A great one just came out anything so soon after will be judged harshly.

  2. Probably would have gotten better reviews if there hadn't already been so many multiverse CBMs released in the last couple of years. At this point there's definitely some multiverse fatigue amongst reviewers and some of the audience. If NWH comes out this month it would not get the same level of reviews.

  3. Just caught this. I wasn't sold on Halle in the trailers but she definitely owns the role, especially after she turns human. OTOH the other mermaids were all pretty terrible, especially in the cheesy final scene. Overall definitely worse than Aladdin, about on par with BatB. The new songs were all embarrassingly bad, I'm actually shocked LMM did these since I usually like his Disney songs.

    Princess Live Action Rankings:

A: Cinderella - improves on the original in every way

A-: Aladdin - mostly good and lots of fun, Speechless is the only good new songs in these remakes, however Jafar was a big stepdown from the animated version

B: BatB/TLM - much worse than the original, especially the new songs, but not terrible on its own

F: Mulan - dishonor on you, dishonor on your cow!

I'm gonna call bullshit. There's nothing indicating that they're connected in any way. Majors shit didn't even impact Creed 3, a movie he is actually in.

I would say it is definitely affecting fandom morale in general. Morale is at all time low right now and it’s hard to get hyped or enthusiastic about a new release, especially one that’s continuing the juvenile humor that people have been criticizing. This is why many people are excited about Secret Invasion’s trailer, because it shows a serious tone without the childish humor.

I'd say it's relatively reasonable. By the time social media reactions surfaced, the Alpha comp had it at 22M compared to Wakanda Forever. That comp overindexed by about 8%, which would have made that 20.3M. Wakanda Forever then had great social media reactions and very good reviews, so it probably wouldn't have gained too much on that that. Let's give it 20.3M previews with a slightly bit better IM over the weekend (it wouldn't have made too much difference in terms of that the first weekend anyways) and we land right at about 125M.

Sure, if we're talking about Maverick or The Dark Knight level reception it could probably have made quite a bit more, but no Marvel film has ever had that kind of reception.

At least half a dozen MCU movies have had that level of reception. Most recently NWH.

  6. This is the first MCU movie I did not watch opening weekend, and still have not bought tickets for. I will probably still watch it some time this month since I have A-list, but honestly I'm so over the whole multiverse plotlines and I just don't care about time travel/variants any more. It was fun for one movie/show, but by this point it just feels convoluted and tedious. At this point I'm not even sure how/if they can pull off A5/A6 with these writers.
