  1. I am perhaps the furthest thing from a Twilight fan, but in recent years I have become a huge Pattinson fan. He has done many well-reviewed yet unwatched indies. Check out Good Time if you're interested, he has some serious acting chops and it almost seems like he's been trying to expunge Twilight from in his resume by any means necessary.
  2. I dont understand. AEG is the biggest hollywood film of all time in China by a considerable margin and does not get an extension? Yet Wonder fricking Park gets one? Trade War was a big deal last year and AIW still got one, what changed?
  3. Precisely. If there is any film for which legs dont matter its AEG. I feel that people don't really appreciate the insanity of its OW around the world. The openings were so insane to the point where it literally hits the limits of demo saturation. An A+ cinemascore is irrelevant if you've already maxed out your demos. For AEG to have continued apace it would have had to break out on all four quadrants. Instead (in the US) it played primarily to males over 25, and IW plus the 3 hour runtime seemed to kill its chances with families (which comprised only 11% of OW!!! Thats half of SW films (notoriously fan and older male centric on OW, and even of IW). This film was not made for that demo it was a love letter to the fans who've been around since 2008 (btw kids under 12 gave the film its lowest rating at 4.5 stars on Posttrak). So to have great legs it would have needed new demos (families + females) who had a bunch of options in the form of 3 wide releases a week as other studios have perfected the art of "counter-programming" in the era of event driven cinema (in this case leg-killers more aptly describes what they are). On top of that no holidays (let alone a summer or December release schedule) and record low ER around the world (which even at 2018 levels, a low point for ER to begin with, the film would have beaten Avatar) and wahla, you have our current situation
  4. It was great, I love how they basically created a genre in arthouse action. That said, best movie of the year? And even more to the point, one of the best films of the decade? Everyone is entitled to their opinions but thats a little too over the top and jeez does that do a disservice to some really great films. The John Wick films are top of the line action films to be sure, but if how well choreographed a film's action scenes are determines its quality then yea, cinema really is dead and we killed it
  5. So what I gather from this list; the worse the film, the better the hold. Good going Germany, I really hope the Hustle isn't holding like that in my native Switzerland!
  6. Are you saying the deteriorating ER is not good news? It is kind of crazy to think that after 20 years of inflation, AEG passes Titanic in admissions with about the same USD gross..... Besides that the figure is nothing short of amazing
  7. I love how people bring up ticket price in China. If you do you are bringing up supply and demand and economics 101. Invariably a higher ticket reduces demand. Theater chains upping price may have more apporiately matched prices to fans' willingness to pay, but outside of that fanbase it absolutely reduced the number of tickets sold. You can see this with Blu Ray and DVD sales as well. Higher prices reduce volume and vice versa, to the extent that price point often does not matter so much for the total gross
  8. Those weren't Deadline's estimates, its what they were hearing from their sources. The whole industry was out its mind after that opening, and with everything seemingly going right for AEG (plus the great track record of A+ cinemascores) and the lack of comps, industry insiders were feeling a little bit too bold....
  9. I'm brand new here, but all this comparison of TFA's Xmas corridor weekdays to AEG's weekdays is unbelievable. I thought BOT had some of the internet's best BO analysts? To quote Paul Dergarabedian from Comscore, every day in the Xmas-New Year holiday plays like a Saturday. The Xmas-New Years corridor is the biggest movie going period in the US, it makes summer midweeks look pedestrian. Look at TLJ, its second week middays were higher than its first week (which was already holiday boosted). It took in almost 22m in its second Wed, which followed from 72m second weekend! You simply cannot compare AEG's weekdays to TFA's weekdays
