  1. The general audience rewarded Transformers for being mindless, but simple action. "The Force Awakens" was kind of like that, but from everything we're being told about "Rise of Skywalker," its story is noticeably distracting, which is why I can't see word of mouth being enough to push this into "Aladdin" legs.
  2. In the Bay Area, which is a very theater-friendly region compared to other markets, the majority of Sunday afternoon and evening showings in our biggest theaters have still sold exactly zero seats. Two weeks ago, I thought opening weekend would be just under TLJ, but now, pending massive turnaround in audience reception (which has stagnated greatly) to Star Wars, I can't see how this crosses $200 million.
  3. Wooooooow... Am I actually going to watch this in theaters? I believe I am. Would've been fantastic to have the flight scenes filmed with IMAX cameras.
  4. Oooooooh, got it. I haven't seen the one from a couple years ago, so I thought it was a remake, not a sequel.
  5. Wait... this is the... third one? I thought there were only two? Do you know what were the expected drops for next weekend and if they are much different now?
  6. I'm late, but this is spot on. I waited weeks to see this movie, because "Endgame" was the peak for me - and this just goes to further that case even more. I'm even more nervous about "Black Widow" now and have growing anxiety regarding "The Eternals."
  7. I had massive Madame Web vibes during this point in the sequence. For all the other Spider-Man characters that have been used, plus other characters being talked about, it would be really cool to have her incorporated into the MCU.
  8. Also, I'm heading to the "Endgame" thread to brag about this, but I want some form of currency from each and every person who insisted to me that the MCU was now a multiverse, that there are now like forty-two different Steve Rogers running around, and that tHe RuSsO BrOtHeRS cOnFiRmEd tHe MuLtIvErSe iS ReAl AnD yOu'Ll sEE iN "FaR FrOm HoMe."
  9. I just got back from this and... uhhhh... It wasn't... horrible and it wasn't great, but it straddled good. I'm not sure now if Tom Holland can carry the franchise like Robert Downey, Jr. did. This movie made it glaringly obvious how much of a glue to the MCU that he was... and it might be irreplaceable glue. The post-Hulk Snap world is already bright and cheery and back together a mere eight months after everyone returns to life? I thought Jake's portrayal was much too cartoonish and overacted. Happy and May...? Huh?? The transition from non-tingly Peter to tingly Peter was... ehhh... We go from Mysterio using an illusion to fake like he's been hit by a stray bullet, to him standing with a gun to Peter's head... to him laying on the ground dying? What did I miss in this sequence of events? ...other than Peter just leaving him on the floor, supposedly dead. This movie seemed was not paced well at all and the last third was a big mess. Except for... J.K. SIMMONS, WHAT THE HELL!?!?!?!?!? EDIT: Another positive... the IMAX expanded ratio transitions were really well done. At first I was supremely annoyed, 'cause I thought the lesser IMAX screen I was watching the movie on (compared to the one at the Metreon in downtown SF) wasn't expanding properly, but then I realized it was and I just wasn't noticing the transitions. Well done.
  10. What are you talking about?!?!!?? The five-ten thousand year history of modern humans is tots more relevant and important than any measly millions of years of biological evolution! Anyway, characters that are carbon-clone copies of older, better characters are usually bad, but has there ever been a wannabe-clone copy character for the sake of divurshuty that hasn't been god-awful? Speaking of original female characters with character flaws, anyone recall "Xena: Warrior Princess," that super unpopular show with that unoriginal female character that women-hating "manbabies" despised that wasn't twice as more popular than its counterpart show "Hercules?" It's like creating a character that serves some other purpose than to tell an opposite demographic that would usually not have any opposition to said character that they are wretched scum of the earth... actually facilitates in the enjoyment of said character among all.
  11. I have been told that stating such sound logic is considered "trolling." Tread carefully.
  12. I feel like I saw it fairly often during the NBA Playoffs and NBA Finals too. I'm going to give this a go, possibly during opening weekend. It caught my interest from the first time I saw the trailer, and the positive feedback so far is making me want to support.
  13. The initial trailer for this was uninspiring, and I doubt the new one will be much better. That being said, if Disney can come up with a semi-original Snow White sidestory, why can't they just do the same for these other movies they're remaking? 🙄 I'd think it'd be rather interesting to have watched Adam become Beast, as opposed than the insipid remake they gave us a few years back. I'd rather see a semi-original movie focused on Jasmine, not a bland remake of the original "Aladdin." I'd rather watch a semi-original movie - like a prequel for instance - of "The Lion King," rather than an unnecessary remake. And so on.
  14. What do you mean by "The rest...?" I'm thinking about seeing this, but I didn't like "Hereditary," and very much dislike "shock porn" movies, so does this one fall into that category?
  15. This is funny 'cause earlier you were insisting that everyone who wasn't pouring over Disney's casting decision was a virulent Klan member, and now since your go-to dismissive comment can't be used, you have nothing to say other than, "Ban that guy who doesn't say the things I want blacks to say!" Who knew that advocating for the largest media corporation in the known universe to put its money where its "wokness" is and cast black actors/actresses in an original fantasy film, where both the leads are black and in love or aspiring to love each other, would cause so much outrage and hatred from "progressives." You know what they say about different sides of the same coin, though.
  16. Love when "woke" whites tell me that if I can't accept being only good enough for Disney's scraps, then I should be banned. It's so "progressive." You're so much better than those Trumpers. How dare I insist that Disney cast Halle Bailey in an original movie, rather than going the safe route and putting her in a movie that's already going to make its budget back, while having her lust after a white prince.
  17. Both attributes are better than staying chasing after fictional white characters, like you. 😉
  18. I was going to pass on this movie, but saw the trailer for it over the weekend and became interested. However, I thought "Hereditary" was god awful, and I'm so glad I saw it on either a free ticket or on $5 Tuesdays. If I didn't like "Hereditary," will I like this?
  19. "Shaft" was hilarious. The humor in the MiB:I trailers fell flat each time. I don't remember thinking anything in them was funny.
  20. James Cameron nuts thinking the three people on this board and the seven people on r/movies are going to drive "Avatar 2" to $2834 billion is an even better measuring stick.
  21. Imagine having to live in a world with black people who don't follow your lead with regard to black movies we like. The horror.
  22. So, this is interesting. Not a single word in the post you deleted had any "name calling" or featured any "bigotry," but yet you allow @YLF to call me "dumb" and leave his post up. This is the standard response that so-called "progressives" have whenever they encounter non-white people who won't eat out of their hand. In the Star Wars IX thread, I made a comment that I would not be seeing any of Rian Johnson's movies because of his Twitter rampages towards people who genuinely thought he made a terrible movie, and was "name called" by four different posters - but none of their posts were deleted and none of them were given threadban warnings. Quite interesting indeed.
  23. I absolutely love when people take my bait and prove me right. White people telling black people that Jordan Peele, who was raised by a white woman and grew up solely around white peers, is representative of all black people is my point proven - and "Get Out," while decent as a movie, is a perfect representation of that. Where's the "thanks" image when you need it? "Get Out" was made to make "woke" whites with slave owner mentalities feel good, while "Shaft" is (likely - I'll find out tomorrow) a good ol' fun black movie for black people. I can't wait to indulge - despite what my holier-than-thou, self-proclaimed "betters" (The Wokes and Their Pets) may think. EDIT: And if you're talking about "Girls Trip" - even better. Encouraging and celebrating black women being "ratchet" is like "woker than woke" "woke" - you all love that kind of stuff. EDIT 2: All-in-all, you won't get "Shaft," because it wasn't made for you to get, it doesn't have to be made for you to get, and it doesn't need to be made for you to get. And that's ok. Go enjoy your Adam Sandler and Will Ferrell white comedy movies that no one not-white has a problem with. We don't need to hear about you all's dislike for black comedy movies that don't feature black men in dresses or black women being hoodrats.
